View Full Version : UNH vs. Elon

I guess I had to start a thread sooner or later, so why not this one. Elon at home for their very first CAA conference game. On paper it looks like a UNH win, but has the feel of a trap game. Elon certainly would like to start their CAA membership with a win, and it should be pretty easy to get fired up against a Top 10 team.
Cats will still be down a starting QB, and possibly a starting RB, which meant little against Dartmouth. Conference game obviously means more, but there isn't much of an apparent difference between Goldrich & Vailas. Owens has also been pretty good in place of Steriti.
Elon fans....happy to be in the CAA, or do you already miss the Southern Conference?

Miss the SoCon? Uh, no. Very happy to be a part of the CAA. Looking forward to working our way up. Also looking forward to the game. It's supposed to be a beautiful day for football. Regarding our team, it is flattering that you think Elon could be trouble for UNH. I don't feel our team is as bad as our recent record may suggest, but if I were a betting man I would have to go with the Wildcats. I hope some of you can make it down to Elon for the game.

I'll throw a bone to our former SoCon brethren and wish them good luck in their CAA opener.

Come on Down, kick your shoes off, sit a spell, Some say We play on Grits. No that's what We ski on.
We are pretty much having to reestablish a winning culture to our football program on the Fly.
But I am sure our guys will show up and give another top 10 school all they want and more.
I hope We can be competitive. I know any UNH visitors will be impressed with our hospitality and facilities.
1:30 kick-off Weather should be breezy and not very warm. Humidity Festival Ended in August.
Ya'll Come on Down!!!

They don't miss us and we don't miss them.
(and that is sincerely not meant as an insult...just reality...Elon is happy to be in the CAA and the teams that are now in the SoCon all actually want to be here...works out well for everyone...no hard feelings)

Come on down!! Elon is a very hospitable place. There really isn't a bad seat in the stadium & there are plenty of "ok to very good" hotels within a mile or two of the campus. If you do make it, please save enough time to walk the campus & take a look at the scenery. For pregame, (and post game), tailgating, the Softball Lot, which is across the street from Rhodes Stadium is usually a pretty happening place & the folks there typically welcome you with a frosty beverage.
BTW, the parking lot behind McMichael building is the best place for visitor parking. A shuttle will carry you to the stadium, but unless it's raining, chose to walk. It's a short easy trip.

Making the trip to Elon which will leave once again JMU as the only CAA venue I have left to attend a UNH game. (Also attended UNH games at Northeastern, Hofstra, UMass, UConn, Georgia State and ODU along the way.) Nice stadium which I checked out on my way home from the playoff game at Wofford.
Cat Club group plans to be in that McMichael Parking lot.

I was at the Coastal game last Sat. vs Elon, and the Phoenix held on pretty good through about 2 1/2 quarters. If they hadn't missed a couple of field goals, it may have been a much closer game. Just my observation, but they seem to be still trying to find their offensive rhythm. I think they are better than their record indicates.

Elon's a better team I think than their record shows. One loss to an FBS, a loss to Coastal, and a close loss to NC A&T. Not saying NH will have any trouble with them, just think they're slighty better than most give them credit for.

If UNH doesnt turn the ball over, they should win by 20.
Interesting matchup will be the Elon D vs the UNH O. UNH has been averaging 36 per game, and the Elon defense seems to be doing pretty well against FCS competition.

One thing I do miss about the socon is personal. I miss being able to go to way more OC games. Being in Charlotte a two hour drive would take you to multiple stadiums. That being said the CAA is a better fit for our base as a whole and the socon is rebuilding.
I think this game has upset potential. UNH's backup QB showed his stripes last week but we have had a week to review the video and our Defense has shown it can go nose to nose with the top teams. what it will come down to is our offense and if they can get things clicking again. Looking forward to great weather and a great game.

Could be a trap game. UNH is coming off a blowout and could be looking ahead to the big match-up against W&M. I doubt UNH would do that, but anygivensaturday

i wish the socon well and will miss some of the games. the socon was a worse fit than the big south was. and it was a really bad fit for the school and the fans.

Elon is a great addition to the CAA and I think most CAA fans are happy to have them. I appreciate any excuse to go to N.C. so that's just a bonus.
The school is similar to U of Richmond so that may turn into a big rivalry.
