Yep. Lost in OT Friday. I was at the Mav football win over UMD, then in basketball the women upset #2 ranked Wayne and the men also won. Afterwards I was tired and was halfway home when the hockey game finished on the radio. I would have stopped in otherwise. Next week the Mavs host Concord in the football semis- I'll probably go to the Princeton hockey game that night.

I didn't go to the Friday game because I knew I would be in Mankato on Saturday. While I was at the game they announced that 18 of 24 MSU players were sick. I have heard both flu and food poisoning as causes.

Princeton would have been college team #310 that I have seen in person- as Concord was #309. Darn. Hopefully I will see CSU-Pueblo if I make it to KC.

I was at the 3-1 Mav win over Lake Superior State last night. I've never seen a team take a timeout midway through the first period before, but it was a good move by the Laker coach. It was only 1-0 but the puck was in their own end about 90% of the time, or so it seemed. The Lakers woke up in the second period and should have scored, but MSU got one instead. In the third they got another and soon after LSSU scored but that was it- sweep for the Mavs. MSU really looked good, well worth watching.

Yale defeats Harvard 4-1 at Madison Square Garden last night in the "Rivalry on Ice" in front of 12,000+.

It doesn't count in the ECAC standings, but Yale needed it much more than Harvard for pairwise reasons.

Harvard was missing 3 top players, while Yale seems to be getting most of their injured players back. Nice win.

Mavs have Ferris State this weekend, a middle of the road WCHA team at home. Should be able to get 3-4 points out of this series. They just played them a couple of weeks ago and swept them at their place. Looking at the schedule, the Mavs have a tough series with Tech and that is at home. The Mavs should easily get to the upper 20s for wins over even north of 30 after the WCHA tourney.

If they are not a top-4 seed I will be surprised.

Pretty much what I thought. Tech leapfrogged BU and is now #3 behind Mankato and UND.

Huge series for both Mankato/Tech this weekend. Mavs swept them earlier in the year at Tech. Can they do it again?

The best teams this year, by far, are out of the west.

I talked to the Harvard goalie's dad Friday night. Said that his son plays at Michigan Tech. I was wearing my Mav hooded sweatshirt and that must have started a dozen conversations. I overheard the BC band director say that Harvard had hired St. Cloud State's band (who had been at their own game at the Target Center earlier) to play- when I asked him about it I found out that BC had hired the Eden Prairie band to play for them. Both bands got t-shirts from the respective schools which they told me was much appreciated.

There were quite a few Harvard and BC fans there considering the distance. I don't understand why the championship game, which was sold out, was not televised or shown online. I listened on the radio but I was pretty disappointed.

Anyway, now I move on to something much dearer to my heart- the MSU Mavericks got the #1 seed and play in South Bend. I'm looking into possibly going with a group.

To me, Palmquist tries to give a little resistance to the rush and simply cannot hold his ground. The contact between the two players happens at least 10 feet from the goal, well into the face off circle. I agree that if there is a mix up in front of the net and a player pushes another one into the goalie, it's probably interference but this was a simple case of a kid losing an edge and tumbling backward.

Looks like they got it right.

They had an graphic yesterday that surprised me. They said that the #1 seed makes the Frozen Four 40% of the time, but then the #4 seed was something like 25%- more than the #2 or #3 seed.
