FIFA’s decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar has been heavily criticized since the final vote in 2010, with allegations of corruption (http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/soccer/2014/09/19/garcia-urges-less-secrecy-in-fifa-corruption-cases/15877959/) within FIFA and Qatar’s record of human rights violations (http://edition.cnn.com/2014/09/04/sport/football/qatar-world-cup-human-rights-football/) leading many to call for the decision to be reversed. The challenges of holding the world’s biggest tournament in western Asia during the summer months — when temperatures in Doha reach an average high (ftp://ftp.atdd.noaa.gov/pub/GCOS/WMO-Normals/RA-II/QR/41170.TXT) of 106 degrees — seem unsolvable. Qatari officials have promised to spend $4 billion (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/2010-12-02-%20usa-2022-world-cup-bid-qatar-russia-2018_N.htm) on air conditioned stadiums to protect players and fans, but not everyone is convinced.
FIFA Executive Committee member Theo Zwanziger told German newspaper Bild (http://sportbild.bild.de/fussball/2014/fussball/zwanziger-katar-verliert-die-wm-2022-37761472.sport.html) that he does not think the tournament will take place in Qatar.
Via Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/22/us-soccer-qatar-fifa-zwanziger-idUSKCN0HH1C820140922?utm_source=Facebook):

“I personally think that in the end the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar. Medics say that they cannot accept responsibility with a World Cup taking place under these conditions…. Fans from around the world will be coming and traveling in this heat and the first life-threatening case will trigger an investigation by a state prosecutor.”

I don't watch soccer except to root on Italy every four years, so I don't follow the politics of the events leading up to it, but it sounds like this was a clusterf--- from the start.

i know its sounds funny saying this, but i think England deserves it the most to host the 2022 WC. im saying this cause they have a beautiful stadium(Wembley Stadium) good enough to host the final.

I haven't believed it will happen there since it was announced.

It will either be the US or Australia...

It will either be the US or Australia...

Both are counties that already have infrastructure to support it

Russia (Europe) is hosting in 2018 so that eliminates England from consideration in 2022

In reality, it should be North America's turn to host in 2022. Oceania is too much of a joke to host as none qualified for the 2014 WC and Australia is part of Asia for World Cup purposes. North America hasn't hosted since 1994. Europe will have hosted 3 times since then (2018), Africa in 2010, Asia in 2002 (with Qatar supposedly in 2022), and South America in 2014.

Whether it is 2022 to replace Qatar or 2026, it is North America's turn to host.

There's not doubt it's time for a concacaf host.

I wouldn't be shocked for it to be a US/Mexico split, if it could be worked out somehow. I'd guess that's being floated out there to say "Look, two concacaf counties hosted world cup games so leave us the hell alone now".

The one issue the US might have is most of our major stadiums have turf. That's a huge no-no to the euro douches.

Even setting aside the obvious corruption that led to them getting it in the first place, the fact that they're using slave labor to build their stadiums should be enough for any respectable organization to strip them of it. Then again, no one's ever accused FIFA of being anything resembling that.

The articles I read yesterday said it would most likely go to the US because the US finished second to Qatar in the voting for the 2022 WC.

Correct. Turf is a big no-no. Heinz Field uses grass still... Which others? Cardinals?

Could do a split with mexico. Final in the Azteca!

The final would be the BIG issue.

Neither country would want to give it up.

According to wiki (who does cite actual sources) the following stadiums made the "cut" for the bid process:
Rose Bowl - grass
LA Memorial - grass
Cotton Bowl - grass
FedEx Field - grass
Cowboys Stadium - turf
MetLife - turf
Sun Life - grass
Reliant - grass
Arrowhead - grass
INVESCO - grass
Raymond James - grass
Gillette - turf
Husky Stadium - turf
University of Pheonix Stadium - grass
Georgia Dome - turf
M&T Bank Stadium - turf
Lincoln Financial - grass
LP Field - grass
Century link - turf
Qualcomm Stadium - grass
Lucas Oil - turf

Since the bid San Francisco has opened a new stadium with grass as well

There are a couple that are turf that would likely throw sod down because they are too good of a market to not have a game at - Seattle, New York, Dallas (if using Cowboy Stadium rather than the Cotton Bowl).

I see the following stadiums being used:
Rose Bowl, FedEx, Met Life, Sun Life, Invesco, Century Link, Qualcomm, Levis, Cowboy/Cotton Bowl and some combo of Soldier Field/M&T/Arrowhead/Houston for the last 1 or two.

That would give us

LA, Washington DC, NYC, Miami, Denver, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, and Chicago/Baltimore/Kansas City/Houston for the last spot(s) with the final in either Seattle, LA, DC, or Dallas... Seattle or LA would be best, but I would be shocked if DC didn't get the finals due to being the capital and what not.

And as with any non-Big 4 sport on the East Coast, if I can't see it from my living room window, I wouldn't go for free, haha.
