GAME #9: The USD Toreros (5-0 PFL; 8-0), the top ranked I-AA mid-major program in the nation, will put their I-AA best 16-game winning streak on the line this Saturday when they travel to Jacksonville, Florida to take on the Jacksonville Dolphins (4-1 PFL; 4-4) in a 12:30 p.m. (ET) contest. With 8 straight wins this season, USD will be looking to match the program's best start ever of 9 wins (1981).

SERIES RECORD: This is just the 2nd meeting between USD and Jacksonville... USD won the the first meeting in 2002 in a game played at Torero Stadium, 44-20... Jacksonville head coach Steve Gilbert was a USD assistant coach for the defensive line during the 1983-84 seasons.

HEAD COACH Jim Harbaugh: Harbaugh is his 3rd season with a career record of 26-5. Last season he guided the Toreros to a program-best 11-1 record, the PFL North Division title, the PFL Championship, and to the Sports Network Cup crown as the No. 1 ranked I-AA Mid-Major program. He was named the PFL North Division Coach of the Year, in addition to being a candidate for the I-AA Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year. With this season's 8-0 start, he has guided USD to 24 wins in its last 25 contests, and to a program-best No. 16 national ranking for all I-AA schools. The Toreros also have moved up to No. 15 in the CSN Coaches Poll. Prior to being named USD's 11th head coach, he spent two seasons in the NFL as an offensive assistant with the Oakland Raiders. He spent 15 years in the NFL with five different teams - Chicago (1987-1993), Indianapolis (1994-97), Baltimore (1998), San Diego (1999-00) and Carolina (2001). A 1987 first round draft pick by the Chicago Bears, Jim played in 177 NFL games with 140 starts. For his career he completed 2,305 of 3,918 passes for 26,288 yards with 129 touchdowns. Last week is history. This week USD will come back in the second half and hand Jacksonville its head. I don't think that USD should be in the playoffs if they are unbeaten, but I don't see Jacksonville beating USD. Maybe tuna is dolphin-safe, but these dolphins ain't safe from the Toreros!

I was just noting a statistical fact. By the numbers, they were the top defense before today. I know they are probably not the "best" defense, but they are the "top" defense right now.

But back to the game, I still see major adjustments at the half, USD wins, but not as big as many expected. This is a kind of trap game.

Yeah, sports are a tough draw in San Diego. Especially Saturday afternoon games. The USD volleyball team is only getting about 300 per match on Saturdays, compared to 700-800 on Thursday nights.
