The standards are high at GSU; too bad the level of patience is not.
As for the game, I think it will be close; there is still a lot of pride in Statesboro.

Hey, we could realistically be looking at 6-5, and it scares the snot out of me....I don't go there much, for the same reason AppGuy mentioned, but I bet the UFFP is going nuts this season too.

There is definitely a group that are very upset with him.
However there is also a large group of people willing to give him longer than 1 game to make a full hated-opinion about him and give him a chance to do his thing.

CVG was a great hire. Of course the haters and complainers are the ones making all the noise. I have expected since day 1 of the VG Era that this season could turn out like it has. Lots of changes, most for the better. It's going to take time to adjust. We've got a damn good football team, consistency has been our main problem. We do some things great, others not so. Once we get our ducks in a row, everyone better watch out.

I'm pretty sure ASU lost to Western during the 6-5 year (2004).
As far as this weekend's game, I'm picking the T-Dogs 21-20.

Heck, we ain't that far away now. If we had Foster playing QB we would be 6-2 at worst right now and most likely 7-1.
To address the other posters questions, yes there are alot of unhappy folks in the 'Boro.
VG has not done the best job of public relations. Four trangressions come to mind: 1) the "There is no option" commercial, 2) He didn't make the program's attendance at the Erk Russell memorial service mandatory so none of the players showed, 3) Calling the CCSU game a scrimmage before they whipped our arses. 4) Getting rid of the offense that had been the standard bearer in this division for the past 20 years and had dominated the SoCon for the past 10.
All I can is this: He had better get a QB and he had better be able to recruit, because I think he's used all his mulligans this year. Replacing the OC would calm alot of folks down too.

Yes maybe worse.
1998-2002 ASU made the playoffs.
2000 10 wins
2001 9 wins
2002 8 wins
2003 7 wins
2004 6 wins
Many people saw this trend and didn't enjoy it. I wasn't a member of the small group wanting to fire Moore, but I was beginning to think he was getting past his prime. Boy did his staff and the boys prove me wrong.
However doubling the 2004 win total and winning a NC sure did help Coach Moore.
I never did stop giving my time or money to the program though, hang in there GSU, you'll be back to the playoff or further as soon as next year.

JMU's years prior to their NC:
1999: 8-4 1st round Play-off loss (Matthews' first year)
2000: 6-5
2001: 2-9
2002: 5-7
2003: 6-6 (people calling for Matthews' head)
2004: 13-2 (NC)
Now, JMU does not have the storied success that Georgia Southern has, but it does go to show that this year is not necessarily indicative of years to come. It does feel weird to look at the Socon standings, and not seeing GSU in the top 3 though...

Of the SoCon teams I've seen in person, Wofford is the one that played Appalachian State the toughest. I was impressed with the Terriers adjustments on defense and we all know how tough that offense is to stop. Wofford is also doing a better job passing the ball this season. When you consider how tough Wofford has been on Georgia Southern in the past few years, I would be real surprised if the Terriers don't win this game, though it will probably be close as it always is.

"Jump Ship" or "Walk The Plank".
We all better get our licks in now, I fear when van Gorder gets the Big linemen he wants, GSU will be whooping tale again.
Hopefully this will eliminate the "Wofford only beats GSU because they play early in the season" BS. If we could have just beaten either set of chickens this year we would be set for the play-offs - I guess we caught the "Chicken Curse":D

Our o-line is pretty much the only part of the GSU offense that works right now. (Besides the TE, but the coaches can't figure out how to use a TE).
You guys have a couple years to take licks. It's going to take a while. And the OL isn't going to fix a whole lot.
A QB that can actually complete a pass will help. If he could run, that would be an improvement as well.
Our WR's aren't that great. Only a couple TRUE WR's. The others are leftovers from the triple option and are basically just fast TE's. Not a lot of skill (they were used for blocking and emergency passing).
Our running game leaves much to be desired. Lewis and Covington are good backs, they are just not being used properly. (and there is NO excuse for that, we have a run oriented OL, although they have adjusted to the new scheme and played well so far).
And that is just as far as players go. If you look at coaching, things go downhill from there.
Darin Hinshaw is maybe the most predictable play caller ever. It is either going to be a bubble screen, a bubble screen, a flare pass, a bubble screen, a bad looking speed option (in which our QB ALWAYS options out so it basically is just a delayed pitch unless he gets sacked which has happened a few times), a bubble screen, a play action play in which the play action is very obvious so it becomes useless and the pass will be over our recievers head, a bubble screen, or a run play for 2 maybe 3 yards. Oh yea, there is one play that GSU is GREAT at: the punt!
Yea. It's that bad right now. 3-6... WTF?

Some musings:
I wonder how things are going to go when they hold out their hands and ask for money again next spring. I think we'll have a pretty good idea by the headcount 11/18.
This is every GSU fan's worst nightmare. They have taken the greatest D-1 program of the past 20 years and turned it into a 2006 version of the early to mid 1990's UCF teams.
The best QB in the SoCon can't get on the field but once every 3-4 plays and has been turned into a role player. The best rushing offense in college football for the past 10 years has been first neutered then thrown away.
I hate it for Coach Sewak, Coach Pate and the kids they recruited, I really do. Sam Baker might have to pay with his position for this, especially if attendance and donations do what I think they are going to do.
As much as it pissed me and all the GSU folks off, Coulson was at least half right. I give him props now in retrospect. If a new hire had to be made Giff Smith or Jeff Monken were the obvious choices but weren't even called. There were NO other candidates considered or interviewed.
As long as Hinshaw is calling the plays and Clark is taking the snaps what we see is what we're going to have to live with.
I guess we are now officially Wofford's bitch...

IMO, no one is afraid you anymore. No swagger. They smell blood. Wounded buck. Nebraska's much improved.
