Man, a lot of good things have been accomplished in this off season for The FCS Wedge.
Our host worked citdoggedly in recruiting new outlets, sponsors, and a host of other things for the show in the off season. He worked hard and he deserves a big thank you for the effort he put in early this year.
So where is it at you ask? Cheggit.

citdog will be making an appearance on the show that precedes ours ("Spokane's Saturday Sports Show") in Spokane on 08/23/2014 at 930 Pacific, 1030 Mountain time. etc.
Now a lot of those have listen live links but at this time the ones that work in my player is the Spokane & Billings links. Also the Spokane station has a press release posted on fb listing us as one of the new shows coming on board for this football season. We will immediately precede the Montana Grizzly games on our home station in Spokane. If you are a fb person and are so inclined please go like, or love, or whatever it is you do to show some support please.

If you are in any of those towns you are in luck tomorrow so just tune in at the appointed times. If not you are still in luck, go to the Spokane link and listen there tomorrow. Next week the show will be available Friday afternoons on the usual blogtalk and itunes locations.
I will archive the show on blogtalk in case you missed it. It won't be there until Sunday though.
BTW, we had a great interview with KC Keeler and I gotta tell you seems about as good an interview as you can get and a genuine good person.xthumbsupx

Yeah and the best part about the show is the center segment is easily replaced with 15 min. conference segments for the different conferences with folk that would still like to chip in and be involved. We have a BSC version and an MVFC version at the end of last year along with the straight "national" version each week available.
I hope we can start moving into other areas where the show would have a chance and create maybe a Southland version, CAA version, SC version has been widely talked about due to the # of FCS teams in that state. You ever decide to get off yer ass and get back in the game let me know cuz I'm just waiting to rock this mother up!

Yeah, that sucks balls so we'll have to see if we can get that fixed. The way our show is structured caused some problems with the Cherry Cr. station here in Missoula last year in the first show as well.

Yep, they still had the PL and the SWAC and it just shut off. It just wasn't loaded and calibrated properly unfortunately cuz it would be nice to have a good clean like this to give it a listen for people around the country. We'll talk with them on Monday and iron out how to fix the problems at the mid point and the end there. It was running a couple minutes behind right from the get go so I think the ads running up to the start caused some problems there with how and when they started the show. Wish I would have been recording it so I could go give a listen again and see what happened.

Close IBY, I wanted to allow the radio stations to run this preseason show first before uploading it...that and I've just had zero time to do anything but get this ready in my spare time this week.
However...
I am uploading it later today probably will be working on it during the game commercials etc. so it should be ready this afternoon or this evening and I'll schedule a time for it to run on blogtalk this evening. Right after that it will be available on itunes etc.
Anyway, it should be ready after the game today.

Starting next week this will the show schedule for The FCS Wedge and the small conference segments which will also air just as their own 15 min. shows.
The Big Sky Wedge
-will air Wednesday evenings at 7p East, 4p Pacific. This is a 15 minute show (give or take) and is obviously about the BSC.
The Missouri Valley Wedge

I want to clarify my comments on Zenner from this weeks segment.
I agree with Kevin that Zenner didn't need that game/those yards to get to a Payton finalist level, and that's why bugs me about trotting him out for 23 carries against a D3 team that you were up on by 3 scores in the first quarter...certainly no need to play him for nearly 3 full quarters like they did.
I've read here, from multiple people, that SDSU wants to limit Zenner's load so he is fresher against MVFC/playoff foes. Does keeping him fresh include 23 carries against a D3 or 95 carries (he has 20 more carries than the rest of the team COMBINED)in the OOC? If it does I hate to see what his load against UNI, ISUr, NDSU, etc... is going to be.
That game isn't going to get him there/get him the award but if you think that they weren't going to use every chance they had to get him another 200+ yards or boost his average to help the number side of it I've got some great ocean front property in Nebraska to sell you. I would doubt, very much so, that the committee is going to pull a D3 game out of the schedule and look at his resume without it, so that extra 200 plus yards, 3 TD, and 9 yard average is going to come in real handy later in the season.
I think he's a very good back and would be deserving of getting to Philly for the ceremony if his season plays out like past years, but that game (and to be honest I think any schedule that includes an NAIA/D3 is disgraceful...i'd love to see a rule that says only 1 D2 per year and nothing lower), that showing, etc... was disgraceful IMO.

I could go either way on this. First it's the running game so I'm not thinking 20 carries is overdoing it a whole lot. Coaches know what they want to do and maybe it was just more live drills sort of work for him.
I can see where you didn't mean it the way you came off but I did like Kevin stepping in to make the other side known as well because first off it's the sort of conversation two or three dudes would have and secondly having the other side get it's due is necessary as well.
I thought it was a really good bit of the show personally and glad you both did it that way. Constructive opinions on the matter and all that.

I couldn't have talked about that game without doing something like that. I tried to keep it "calm" and I get the other side, but when he has over 100 yards in the first quarter and your up by 21 on a D3 is there a reason to play him to more quarters other than "cheating" the stat line for something like Payton?
I could have played RB for SDSU last week and they would have still won by 30.
This is one of those topics that no matter what I would have said I would have liked to have said it a little different.
Kevin handled it perfectly and didn't miss a beat on it.
I would have liked a chance to clarify a bit, because Kevin had a GREAT response but we were short on time and it still turned out pretty good.

Yeah, I don't think the amount of yards in the game is really the determining factor. Don Read never pulled Dave Dickenson out of a game until the first series after 1/2 time and it didn't matter if he had 400 yds. and we were up by 50 pts.
I don't think most coarches pull starters prior to 1/2 time so we can look at that anyway we want to but I certainly don't see it messing with any stat lines. Playing an NAIA/D3 all that is not something I think most any FCS wants to do...not what the coarch wants and certainly no what the player wants so giving them a game to play and letting them play it out is all that can really be done or said.
Hell, I'm actually pretty happy the show has created some content discussion here even if it is just between you and I! xlolx

Agree with both of you guys to a point. Zenner will get mileage out of the stats against Oshkosh due to the fact it ends up inflating his season number, but it will be all for not if he continues to now show up against the cream of the Valley. Zenner has 168 career all purpose yards against NDSU...in 4 games. If he plans on winning the award, he needs to double that number this year.

Yes, indeed, but, how many other Payton candidates have had to play that D to accrue their stats? I mean if we're taking into consideration that he got some good yds. on 20 carries from that one (which we should) then we also need to look at the fact that he's amassed a lot of yards agains a lot of good competition as well.
We're all saying pretty much the same thing I know I just really don't have any problem at all with him getting 23 carries and doing so by the 3rd qtr. I guess.

I don't have a problem with it either....up until they start pulling the "ran out of gas" card late in the season when the wheels start falling off their show horse. I think someone should post his single game 2013 stats in a table..... xwhistlex

In 10 games against UNI/SIU/NDSU (almost always the best defenses in the league) Zenner has 166 carries for 601 yards...or 3.6 yards per carry.
For the "burned out" thing, we'll leave his freshman year out as he never had more than 16 carries.

Last season against UNI/NDSU/SIU he went 70 for 222 (3.1)...Even taken the NDSU game out was a mean 62-218 (3.5).
When it comes to conference games, he didn't even lead the MVFC in yard per carry last season. He did in yards, but he also had 40 more carries than the second most carries. He averaged a killer 4.6 ypc in conference play last season. There were 6 running backs in the conference with at least 100 carries that had a better average than him.
Draw your own conclusions, I've already beat this horse in other threads for the last 2 years...leaving it alone now I guess.
