What does Notre Dame have to do to move up in the rankings. The reason for Notre Dames inability to move up was they were struggling against MSU and UCLA. There is some credence in that logic. However why is Auburns continuous escapes, Tennessee's, Texas's struggles, USC struggles and then loss against and unranked team they stay ahead of the Irish? Florida is the only 1 loss team IMO, maybe Cal, that is playing as well as ND. Notre Dames resume is way better than Texas's. Auburn nearly lost to a 2-6 team and they seem destined for another loss. Tennessee has struggled with Air Force, Alabama and South Carolina.

ND has struggled as well - got a gift win against Michigan State.
OSU, Michigan, WVU and Louisville are no brainers to be ahead of ND.
Texas, Auburn and Tennessee have only lost to teams ahead of ND in the rankings - why should ND be ranked ahead of them? ND is in that same group, and until one of them loses again, ND won't jump them.

Look at Texas's schedule and who've they beaten. They're living off of last years accomplishments. There's no way you can tell me their wins and schedule is better than ND's should both maintain 1 loss. Notre Dame is closer in rankings to Arkansas who lost 50-14 to USC, who's struggled all year, than they are Auburn who Arkansas beat by 17. Notre Dames lone loss is by 26 to #2 Michigan an unbeaten. Everyone else except Texas lost to a 1 loss team. And both Texas and ND losses were about the same. Justify how USC remains ahead of ND despite struggling nearly every week and losing to an unranked team?

I love ND, but they are about where they belong based upon their schedule and results. If they win out (which means they beat Southern California) and stay at #10, then an argument is legitimate.

It doesn't really matter at this point. ND is in the driver's seat - if they win out and beat SC, they'll be 11-1 and playing in the Sugar Bowl. If ND loses, they still might be in at 10-2 (although I think I might rather go to the Gator and actually win a damn bowl game). Either way, the hand-wringing about the polls is rather pointless

It isn't if there's a chance for a 1 loss team to either sneak into the title game or grab a split of the title which i think there is a good chance of this year if either Michigan or OSU is beaten in the BCS title game.

After 13 years of bowl losses and watching this team all year, my sights are a little lower than a national championship for this team. I'll be thrilled with a Sugar Bowl win (and content with a Gator Bowl win). I just don't want to go into next year with no upperclassmen and a 14 year old bitter taste in my mouth

I agree that a bowl victory is greatly needed, the '94 Cotton Bowl is long long time ago. However i think this team could be special down the stretch. There is so much Sr. leadership that if nothing else wants to be the foundation of what's to come. They came into the season accepting the expectations. They did play bad against Michigan no doubt. Michigan is a great team but i still think had that game not been after GT and then PSU it might have been different. They headed into the UM game without any turnovers and on such a rediculous high after the PSU game. Michigan was due to break the Sept streak and ND was due for a some mistakes. I really think ND will win out. USC will be a challenge but i think Quinn, Darius, Shark, Mcnight and all the sr's will somehow find a way to win. This had the chance to be ND's year and maybe it wasn't to be. But i want them to play the best possible team they can in a bowl game because i think they can beat WVU, Auburn, Cal, Tennessee, Florida and Texas. And if a one loss team beats Michigan or Ohio State i want ND to atleast have a say. A split title is a real possibility depending on what happens to WVU.

I cant wait to see what Weis does for these next 2 years with his own recruits since ND gave him such a lengthy contract extension for winning with Willinghams recruits.

I think the $64 Question is: "Who has Notre Dame beaten?"
They haven't beaten a legitimate Top 10 team under Weis yet. Until they do, he needs to shut up.

:hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
ND gets over-rated two or three places every year because of their name. And for a ND fan/coach to complain that another team is getting rated over them because of previous year's is the ultimate in hypocracy.
Growing up in the Midwest, I had to deal with the ND "aura" all my life. ND has gotten so many breaks/over-ratings that they could be unranked and unbeaten for 10 years, and still not even the score.

And ND has an underwhelming schedule left: Army, Air Force and USC. Now that USC is no longer undefeated, a win over the Trojans won't be that impressive --- if it happens.

Yep 36th in Sagarin I believe, on the road. 38-14, offense looked great, defense buckled down after struggling to slow down the option in the first half. It was a good win.

There's a ridiculous double standard when it comes to ND. Yes they get hyped up (see #2 ranking to start this season), but they also get way more **** for close wins over mediocre teams than everyone else. Even blowing out solid teams, ND gets **** (see 38-14 win @ #36 Navy).
Bottom line, ND is 7-1 against the 13th toughest schedule in the country. After watching the ND and SC games saturday, I am much more confident about ND's chances in LA. ND wins out, they'll be 11-1 and in the Sugar Bowl, and deservedly so
