in each of the past 6 seasons baseball has had a different champion. But did you know in those six seasons each division has had a champion...
2001 D Backs (NL West)
2002 Angels (AL West)
2003 Marlins (NL East)
2004 Red Sox (AL East)
2005 White Sox (AL Central)
2006 Cards (NL Central)

Why not acknowledge 7 years and throw the 2000 AL East and WS Champ Yankees in there...

Because the point of it is that every division has exactly one title in the last 6 years. Adding the 7th year ruins the stat.

Here's another interesting stat:
This is the 10th time in a row that the World Series was won by the team with more first round draft picks on their roster during the year.
Its also the 14th time in the last 17 opportunities dating back to 1988. The exceptions were:
1997 - both the Marlins and Indians had 8
1995 - Braves beat the Indians despite having 4 first round vs. 6 for the Indians
1994 - there was none
1991 - Twins (3) over Braves (4)
1990 - Reds (6) over A's (9)

Only one fabulously wealthy team on that list, too, and even they're not the richest. I just love all the parity, and the knowledge that the CBA is working. Arguments about teams trying to buy the World Series are so 1998.
