I have never seen a mathematical breakdown but we usually lose between 30-50% of each recruiting class each year because of........

That (30-50%) seems like a terrible loss of players. I don't have any numbers to validate my comments, but Samford just doesn't lose many at all. I have stated that we have the best rate in the conference and one of the best period. That statement does seems a little strange because of the tough academic requirements, but it is a fact.
Maybe the new coach at The Citadel will change some of that since his bio is so impressive, and he seems to be on top of all details.

We don't lose nearly that many players. If we lost 10-15 players before the year is over, then we can find a new coach. That would be a horrific waste of time for the school and the students, and we would also run out of players by the time they hit junior year...

I am disappointed whenever a freshman leaves, because it's a lost opportunity for him and a setback for the school/program as well.

I think a "typical" number of freshmen leaving (either during the fall practice time or not returning after the first semester) is more like 2-4. Still too many, of course, but not 30% of the incoming class.

Of course, Samford does not have the "extra" requirements of their student body that the Citadel does.

Samford scrimmage yesterday. The WR mentioned is Robert Clark transfer from Louisville, who came in this summer. He caught 25 passes with the Cardinals last year, has reportedly run a 4.30/40, and had 4 SEC offers out of high school. Clark earned his degree this spring. Should be a big help to Samford's return game also, as this speedster filled that position for the U of L.

I seem to remember 2 Sun Belt Teams that competed in the SoCon last year. NEITHER OF WHICH were able to post a winning record in that conference. LOL!

Unfamiliar with those schools. Do they play football?

OG Synjen Herren out for season. Either the best or 2nd best OL on the team. Big loss. Hopefully the freshman will fill in nicely at T after Morgan slides to guard. We still have 5 good ones, but I dont know that there is much depth at all now.

GSU (Georgia State) might beat Mercer and VMI, and have an outside shot at WCU.
The other SunBelt GSU is hard to pick. They finished well in their last game, but have a new coach and a modified system, so it's hard to predict. If Moncken had stayed and the team was healthy, I could see them being a contender.
The other scalawag team is harder to predict. They got better towards the end of last year (which wasn't hard to do after losing to CSU and NC A&T) but still wasn't dominant. That program has been fading for several years, and would probably be middle of the pack SoCon.

We won't be down for much longer. Western will show a lot of improvement this season. I believe we come to Conway in 2015 or 2016. Can't wait to come to Myrtle Beach and tee it up and watch a good football game in Conway.
