Nice win for the Dukes. I was surprised that Richmond threw as much as they did. I have not seen the stats yet, but Richmond was held in check in the second half. Second INT for Rascati was actuall an interference that was not called....IMO.

Congrats to JMU. The Dukes were clearly the team that wanted it more today. They played with emotion and executed well. JMU has the talent to keep playing for a lot of Saturdays this year. I was really disappointed that UR didn't provide a better game...hopefully next year.

Congrats to the Dukes...a big win for us. We have now equaled our win total from last year. I get the feeling that we are winning differently this year than 2004. Fewer heart attacks basically.
It was a tough loss for UR but the Spiders are not out of this by any means. Who knows, the next meeting could be a short time away. Your QB has a lot of promise and will give us fits in the coming years...look forward to seeing you all again soon. The talking in the media makes it all the more interesting and entertaining. :)

I was there....close game, closer than the score shows!!! It was over when LC Baker did his usual!!!!
JMU took over UR.......you will not see a I-AA school travel like that in VA......I would say 3000 JMU people were there, if not more...
JMU looked scary good at times, but we did not play all that well. Much credit goes to UR, because that D is nasty..... Your linebacker is a man child!!!
If JMU ever puts it all together, good night..... My UR friends were saying that JMU looked HUGE and FAST for a I-AA team. Of course I reminded them how good I-AA ball is!

AHHHH...I was stuck in traffic because of an accident on 95 for an hour so I missed the fiirst TD for JMU but was there for the rest of it. I was sooooo happy to see so many JMU people there, we filled at least 3/4 of the visitors bleachers. The UR fans were very nice except for what happened when the MRD's played during half time. They got yelled at, spit on, people were throwing footballs...not a good scene... I had a great time! Our D was AMAZING today (well, both were). They had soooo many 3 and outs, they didn't allow the UR offense to take advantage of the turnovers at all. If we put together another solid defensive game like that and Mickey opens up the playbook (btw, on that 3rd down pass to LC I had just turned to my friend and said, long pass to LC and we have a touchdown, just pass to LC...and then it happened...) It just seems like whenever we need to make plays our guys make them, whether it be the standout players or the guys who don't usually get much glory. I'm also glad to see Rabil back at the top of this game, I'm finally confident in our PAT/FG ability. Good game UR and to all the JMU fans that came out, you all rock!

I was embarrased by the UR students a halftime. The MRDs came right up to the stands and here's what an intellegent & classy student body would have done...turn their backs! If you want to "insult" the MRDs, just have everyone turn around and face away. Don't throw crap at them. Worst thing I've ever seen and I hope that UR students realize that this is the reason why the alumni are so upset with the current students. How hard is it to show some class? I guess I also should call out the guy behind me who cheered when a JMU player got hurt. Fortunately about 5 people told him what a jacka$$ he was.
I was impressed with the JMU crowd as well. I know what the announced attendance was, but I figure that there were around 14,000 people there with roughly 4000 JMU fans.

The play of the game was the opening coin toss...Having the wind at your back for the 1st and 4th quarters turned out to be huge.
All of the offensive scoring took place with the wind at the offense's back. Brilliant, yet risky play for Mickey to run out the clock in the 3rd quarter when Richmond had the wind at their backs. I don't know if any stats are available for time of posession per quarter, but Mickey seemed willing to "hold serve" in the 3rd just to keep the ball out of Richmond's hands when the game was actually still in doubt. When the 3rd quarter ended, you really had a feeling the game was over at that point.
Just as DT wasn't proud of his students, likewise, I wasn't proud that the MRDs stomped on the spider at mid-field when they took the field for halftime...that's just not cool.

That was not a good moment at mid field by the MRD's. I did not notice the halftime stomping of the spider, only at post game performance.
The MRD's were not treated very nice when they played for the RIchmond crowd at halftime according to some of the MRD's that we were close to in the stands. Maybe it was only a few with remarks, but I expected more from this crowd.

I was an MRD ('01 alum) and every time we went to UR it was a nightmare. Quite a contrast from W&M where everyone's excited to see us. It's not uncommon to have things thrown at you. The insults you can deal with, but you'd rather not lose an eye performing at halftime. Since then, I've had little respect for the UR fans and I know, for a fact, that the UR faculty is fed up with their antics.
Stomping on the spider is also inexcusable. I can assure you that Dr. Rooney will take care of that situation (and if he doesn't, I'm sure the administration will take care of it).

Those Richmond fans should be ashamed of themselves and should have been thrown out of the stadium by security. Throwing things on the field should be an automatic trip to the paddy wagon regardless of whether it is done during the game or during halftime.

I'd have to chalk up the Stomping on the spider to the frustration with the whole experiance there. When we show up and come into the stadium we're greeted by an overzealous stadium security staff member that threatens us with removal from the stadium for yelling "Dukes are number 1" and raising a number 1 finger. Then getting spit on and stuff thrown at us at halftime... Then during postgame getting the lights turned out in the middle of our show. The whole thing was not a pretty sight. I don't like it, but it was a ton of frustration that just got into everyone. I am sure it won't happen again because I don't believe we'll be traveling to a place that invites us and then treats us with so much disrespect.

This is my first post (I have been a lurker for a while), but I had to respond to this thread. I am a member of the MRDs. The stomping was the culmination of a lot of frustration we had with the Richmond fans. While I didn't take part in it, I can understand why some band members did it. I was a member of the group that took the brunt of the abuse from the student section. I was shoved by a cop (twice) for no reason DURING the performance, spit on, took a couple full water bottles to the chest and some ice to the mouth... all while playing. I did or said nothing to draw this attention. "Spider stomping" is mild compared to the abuse we took. To top it all off, the stadium staff turned out the lights on our post-game performance. As someone already mentioned, prior to the game some enraged stadium staff member grabbed a poor MRD and started telling him he was "kicked out" because he said "Dukes are #1" to the crowd. Thankfully nothing came of that and he quickly returned to the band. I think we handled ourselves very well, given the circumstances.

I should warn whoever watches the highlight video by the way. You will see a certain Mickey Matthews, Head Coach of the JMU Football team, dancing post-game in the locker room....
Don't tell me I didn't warn you....
Re the MRD situation, I had no idea all of this was going on...very unsportsman-like. I hope the MRD's will not let this take the wind out of their sails, and keep on doing their thing. They are always, and will always be a huge boost to the general atmosphere as well as being a very effective booster to all who bleed purple.

We were pissed, but stuff like that just gets us going. We're all really excited for the possibility (and now it seems probability) of a postseason and stuff like this just gets us more ready to go :-). I was there in 2004 and getting heckled by Grizz fans while doing a pregame show in the pavilion at the National Championship Game is one of my fondest memories. That was an exciting time.

Once again, I'll apologize for the behavior of the UR students. I agree that it was shameful and I personally was surprised people were not escorted out. I guess the punishment to have to watch JMU destroy UR in the 2nd half.

I've heard some not so pretty stories from the behavior of JMU students for the W&M game last week as well, it happens at a lot of schools. Obviously this doesn't make either behavior right, and I think that all people that participate on the boards here frown upon such behavior, whether it is from their own 'fans', or the opposite teams' fans.

Just something to point out about JMU's defense. They've given up by my count 118 points, less than 15 pts per game. However, 41 of those points have come in garbage time in the 4th quarter, usually against backups (14 against NE after being up 52-0, 7 against VMI after being up 45-0, 13 against UNH after being up 42-10, and 7 against W&M after being up 31-10). In contested parts of games (excluding after being ahead by 21 or more in the 4th) by my count JMU's starters have given up 77 points, less than 10 a game. They had only one bad game, RI, where they gave up 23 pts/421 yards including 249 on the ground to that variation of the wishbone offense. (even against App State they gave up only 236 yds). And yes they gave up 99 yds to Brooks of W&M, one of the A-10's better tailbacks. But to hold UNH to 9 yds rushing on 32 carries and UR to -2 yards rushing, 22 carries (yes, there was -40 in sack yards), including Hightower to 15 yds, who was the A-10's second leading rusher, is pretty incredible. And JMU leads the A-10 in sacks with 36. As well as the offense in playing (avg 38 pts per game the last 6 games) the defense is playing even better.

I have absolutely no problem with Spider stomping after hearing this. Spit on?? Harassed by security guards for cheering for your team? Are you kidding me?
I know JMU fans aren't the best at home games, and we even got pretty verbally abusive on Saturday at UR, but I guarantee you no Duke would ever spit on someone. Ever. Throw a soft, springing streamer at, maybe. I realize that Spider fans are upset with their own about this, and I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I just can't help but to be outraged at hearing the MRD's were spit on.
Good for them for pointing to the scoreboard as they were being harassed leaving the field, and IMHO, good for the spider stomping.
