All three new schools overlooked. It will be interesting to see what the post-season all conference team looks like.

The only players I figured might be repped on here are Nick Richardson of ACU and maybe Nik Grau from ACU.

Richardson, for sure. Projects higher in the draft rankings than any OLB in the Southland.

I get why these guys did not get preseason recognition but keep an eye on Damion Willams (DT) and Herschel Sims (rb). Williams was a late transfer last year and sat out the early part of the season waiting for NCAA Clearinghouse approval. Had a very good spring.
Sims spent his redshirt year recovering from injuries sustained at Lamar and getting back into the shape. In the spring he looked a lot more like the freshman who played for Oklahoma State than the bust at Lamar.

Gus Johnson is a pure beast. He did a great job running in Harper's pass oriented offense. Hopefully he's utilized more.

Williams is pretty good. He should be a solid player. I remember he was a late transfer. Sims has talent but plenty of off field concerns.

As for those rankings, they will change heavily. I don't think Richardson will be in their top 50 OLBs in about 4 weeks from now. They simply rank underclassmen based on stats until their senior year and then as the fall of their senior year and postseason goes they use feedback from the NFL people they know and based on other stuff like who gets a Senior Bowl invite, etc.

And for the record, the best senior LB prospect in the Southland is at SLU right now, in my opinion and that of the scouts I talked to from the spring. We will see how it goes. I do think Richardson probably ends up on the 1st or 2nd team in the postseason.

Yes he is! I think Hill from SHSU should have been first-team ahead of the SLU RB. I expect Hill to have a big year after backing up Flanders but still putting up impressive numbers for a backup.

Not unlike Cam Newton, Zach Mettengerger and Nick Marshall, among others. I was a skeptic when Sims first enrolled at ACU last year but he has stayed out of trouble, and has done well in the class room while rehabbing and getting ready to play this fall. Let's hope he doesn't get into trouble again, a la Nick Marshall....Don't see any evidence of problems though and everything looks good for fall.



And for the record, the best senior LB prospect in the Southland is at SLU right now, in my opinion and that of the scouts I talked to from the spring. We will see how it goes. I do think Richardson probably ends up on the 1st or 2nd team in the postseason.

IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's a good player. A little heavy footed and not extremely fast but I think he's just a late bloomer who will be faster this year and in 2015. He's a guy who was not heavily recruited out of HS and I can see why the big schools passed, based on his HS film, but why playing in FCS will be the reason why he would get a shot in the NFL. He's getting developed due to added reps and the fact that UCA has been allowing him to grow more than he would on the bench in the SEC for 2 or 3 years, after his redshirt season. I am anxious to see how good he plays this year because I would put him in the 7th-PFA range projection right now, expecting to see that move up because his speed should improve. I also want to see more pass rush moves out of him. He's strong at the point of attack, good movement skills for a man his size, and he is an active player who pushes the pocket and makes plays. I'm expecting double digit sacks out of him because of his strength, size, and length.
