No Kyle Emanuel? I usually don't comment on these things, but that's a huge omission to not have him on any of the teams.

Looks fairly reasonable to me. Surprised at the # of Fordham selections. Also by the lack of NDSU players on the 1st team. Shows that Bison are going into this next season with a lot less knowns playing.
Good success to Zach Zenner in becoming the 1st FCS player to clear 2K running yards for 3 straight seasons. There is little speculation about whether ZZ makes the NFL. Most Rabbit fans seem to believe he'll hang up the cleets, and go to med school instead.

For one because MyCole Pruitt from SIU is an athletic beast who will be playing on Sundays next year and was at or near the top of the nation last year in yards, catches, and receiving TDs for tight ends.

Meh, I don't know about that. Outside of O-line, DT, and QB there's a lot of known quantities returning for NDSU including 4 of the 5 top tacklers. I'm not going to get bent out of shape over preseason beauty contests like this one but don't be surprised if 5 players on NDSU's defense (DE Emmanuel, LB Littlejohn, LB Beck, SS Heagle, and FS Dudzik) garner some postseason All-America recognition.

If Fordham has 5 selections, and rest of the Patriot has less than 5 total (besides Fordham), Rams had better win Patriot like NDSU won in the MVFC last season.
Eastern Washington, and SE LA both look to be tough teams this season. Hope to catch a SE LA game or two, no lion!xsmiley_wix

I have not talked to him myself but hearing you say that makes sense based on some things I have noticed and heard.

As for us, we'll have to let the season play out to know for sure, but the potential is there to be considerably better than last year. I think we have legitimate chance to get to Frisco if we stay reasonably healthy.
As for the SN All-American list, you can never make everybody happy, though looks fairly reasonable to me other than a couple of exceptions. Not sure I would put LaMichael Fanning on the list at this juncture. He couldn't get on the field at Alabama and was moved to TE before getting booted from the team. He may earn his way on by having a great fall, but there are other worthy candidates returning who are more deserving of the preseason recognition IMO.

Roberson is on the first team as a kick returner.
IMO Jacob Newman, DL, Southeastern Louisiana, deserves consideration. Had 14 TFLs and 7 sacks last year playing DE in a three man front and splitting time due to a deep rotation and large margins of victory. Marice Sutton, DB, is deserving as well ... had 4 picks, two returned for TDs last year, and a great year overall splitting time between corner and safety.

I probably would have put Kyle Emanuel in his place. Fanning has a ton of talent but other than his 4-star rating in HS, which means nothing to me and coaches, he hasn't done anything yet. In his defense though Alabama wanted him and they don't recruit scrubs.

I saw him at KR but I have him rated in my position listings as both KR and AP. I just mentioned him because he was not there.
Newman was close. I almost included Newman on the list. He is a solid player but I would rank him 3rd or 4th best among returning defenders on your team. I think he is definitely a preseason first-team All-SLC pick but I can see going either way on the All-America list. There are a ton of good ends in FCS right now.

They don't recruit scrubs but they have made their fair share of mistakes. That said, my beef isn't with Fanning personally ... he may have a great year and win the Buchanan Award. But preseason recognition should be reserved for guys who have gotten it done on the field, not potential ... JMPO.

I agree and to be honest I can see why someone would take one spot and take a shot on a darkhorse because they could look brilliant by doing so. I can also see why someone would go with a proven player, which I would do as well.

I don't disagree, because we have some great players returning (Harlan Miller, Isiah Corbett) who are on the list, but Jacob is a great leader and very productive, especially at his position. I agree there are a lot of good DEs around the country but how many playing in a three man front had 7 solo sacks and 14 TFLs?

Some may say I am being a homer but not having a 1st team all MVFC WR and 2nd team all MVFC DE on the list any where is ridiculous. I could understand (a little bit) of not having John Crockett on the list as he was not on the All MVFC teams last year...However he is the #1 RB for a team that runs the ball very effectively. Barring injury this year Crockett will run for 1200 yards and 10 TD's, at least.

You got a real good beef with Emanuel and Crockett but this WR class is stacked. Vraa is real good but none of the WRs named are bad at all and to be honest there are another 5-7 I would include in there with Vraa as players who probably could be worth a mention.

K Sean Decloux, Maine, Jr.
AP Xavier Robertson, SLU, Jr.
AP Antwan Eddie, Robert Morris, Sr.
Nice choice! Lewis is built for the NFL. He's gained muscle mass over last year too. He's built for speed and he's got good leaping ability. Reminds me of his former teammate and current Seattle Seahawk Chase Dixon. If nothing else, he'll make the CFL, but I really see him playing on Sundays. Along with Woodard.
Position: WR
Height: 6-4
Weight: 212
Class: Senior
Hometown: Mesquite, Texas
Career: Appeared in 36 games with 24 starts…has 133 receptions for 1,723 yards and 15 touchdowns…has one fumble return for 18 yards and a touchdown

You know better than that! Although you have big shoes to fill with Jacobs, Spencer, and that secondary gone. We all know someone will step up and find their way on this team in addition to your one already on it :)

The players I have mentioned that are on the list I am mentioning because they deserve consideration at the position I am listing them. He is listed as an AP but could warrant RB consideration, which is what I listed him as.

FYI...Christian Dudzik was named third team PR so he wasn't snubbed...but I do agree he should be on the list as a safety.
I biggest beef is with not having John Crockett, Zach Vraa and Kyle Emanuel on the list...any where.
Here are John Crocketts stats from the last two years.

Zach was also a first team all MVFC WR last season.
http://www.valley-football.org/news/default/2013-14/7018/missouri-valley-football-announces-2013-all-conference-squad/
Kyle Emanuel was a second team all MVFC player in 2013 and not to be considered amongst the top 6 DE's in FCS seems like a big miss on my part.

How the heck does one earn Preseason All-American status? Number of children's hospitals or elementary schools visited? Number of weights lifted? Number of keg stands?

So...using these selections and assigning some inverse point values to players (for the Team Rankings) (1st Team = 3 pts, 2nd Team = 2 pts, etc.), I came up with the following 'Rankings.' Hopefully, I had the right teams in the right conference with all of the moves today.
Look reasonable?

For me, I look at the athletic upside as well as their overall production from last year, and especially those who lit it up in the playoffs or played better later in the year to project them.
It's really just for fodder and as you know has zero bearing over what happens. It's always interesting to see how many players on my preseason list make the postseason list. Some players come out of nowhere and then some do exactly what you expect.

I never take preseason all-American (or all-conference) teams and preseason power rankings and/or polls (yes, they are different) very seriously. They are good for conversation but essentially they are just educated guesses on how the players will perform and the teams will do during the season.
Is it football season, yet now that futbol is over for team USA??
