LeBron James Reportedly Opts to Become Free Agent
Break out your "take my talents" jokes from 2010. LeBron James reportedly has exercised his early termination option for the 2014-15 NBA season and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
ESPN's Chris Broussard reports Rich Paul, LeBron James' agent, has informed the Heat of his client's decision:

There is almost nobody who can pay him what he is worth AND is a legitimate contender. Even with Carmelo gone, the Knicks are up their usual salary cap **** creek. Everybody is bound up right now. He's obviously going to have to take a cut to go somewhere worth it.

If he goes back to Cleveland, I may watch some non-Nuggets NBA games this year. That would give me some hope in the league. That Cleveland team could be real good too after the lotto pick. I cheered for him to succeed with Miami but i'll like him even more with thw Cavs. Cant wait to see what Miami looks like with nobody. Should be real fun. Love him or hate him, LeBron is the lighting rod in the NBA. They are ready for draft night, but most of the discussion is still about LeBron.

The Knicks, Heat, Nets, Rockets and Cavs are teams that James would consider playing for, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard.
Surprisingly, the Chicago Bulls (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/chi/chicago-bulls) and Los Angeles Clippers (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/lac/los-angeles-clippers) did not make James’ list of preferred destinations, per Broussard’sstory for ESPN Insider (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11134425/nba-possible-landing-spots-lebron-james).

A bit of an under the radar move, but the Hawks trade Lou Williams (and his $5 million contract) and the rights to last year's first round draft pick (playing in Spain) to Toronto for Salmons. The Hawks will promptly waive Salmons $7million contract which has a $1m buy out.
Interesting in that the Hawks, a playoff team, already have as much payroll flexibility as just about any NBA team. This gives them more. While I personally think they will use it in the continued attempt to remake a bloated roster from two years ago, it is worth noting that the Hawks probably have the cap space to sign one or more of these big name free agents. Again, not likely, but they are an interesting team to watch this off season.
Amazing what you can do with competent leadership.

James, reportedly, wants a max deal. He's certainly worth it, and then some, to probably 95% of the franchises in the NBA. However, what teams can pay him a max deal and bring in enough talent around him to not have what he had in Cleveland or Miami. Let's be real about the last 4 years in Miami, they had better "names" than Cleveland but the team wasn't really that much better.
Also worth noting that as of now the Heat have only 1 player under contract for next season - Noris Cole.

That's my guess as well.
HOWEVER, if James is going after a max deal (don't blame him), Wade wants close to a max deal (reportedly), and Bosh is...well not worth what they are likely to pay him they aren't going to be any better than they were - if even that.
Miami is about to be hit with the "repeat offender" tab with the luxury tax. From what I've read that means they are paying $4 on the $1 in luxury tax. That kind of hit will hamper any franchise.

Cleveland will probably struggle to start the year, but they'll be around by playoff time. Especially if Love comes in.
I don't follow NBA transactions much. Anyone know what kind of package it'd take to acquire him. Haven't seen much speculation on Cleveland's side. Just that he's a likely (or more aptly, an ideal) target.

Lebron wants Love, Kevin that is. Means the Wolves may get Wiggens, Bennett and a future #1 pick.
LeBron James wants to play with Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are now willing to part with Andrew Wiggins to make it happen, according to The Morning Journal and The News-Herald in Lorian, Ohio.
After James announced his Ohio homecoming Friday, reports said the Cavs were not willing to trade Wiggins, the top pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, for Love, a versatile player entering his prime.
That appears to have changed.
A league source told reporter Bob Finnan on Thursday that the Cavs are now willing to trade the small forward, who just finished his freshman season at Kansas.

Lebron wants Love, Kevin that is. Means the Wolves may get Wiggens, Bennett and a future #1 pick.

I'd take that trade in a second. I think that Love is gone no matter what- better to get something than nothing. I see that Glenn Taylor says that he wants to keep Love.

He's just trying to milk it for every drop he can get.
Love is going to the Cavs and at the very least their #1 pick from this year, their #1 pick from last year and their 1st round pick next year will be owned by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Sell your future to pay for your present. I guess that's what good professional franchises have to do these days.

Reminds me of George Allen:

Trading 3 maybe's for a proven All-Star. Time will tell if it's a good deal or not.

Love isn't staying in MN. Better to get something for him now rather than nothing next year when he walks away scot free.
And then keeping him this season would be toxic for everyone. I think this is the best they can do.

I agree. I was referring to the 3 maybe's that Cleveland is offering, as maybe not trading away their future if these guys don't pan out after the trade.

The only way is a bad trade for Cleveland is if Love suffers a career ending injury, Wiggins becomes a top 5 all time player, and they never win a title.
Only way it's a bad trade for Minnesota... Is... Well... I don't know how it could be unless all 3 on return are bigger busts than Rubio

What's it going to take to keep people in Minnesota? This whole Love thing reminds me of Kevin Garnett. Wolves need to do something to turn things around. Go T'Wolves!!

Garnett didn't want to leave like Love does. Garnett spent his best years with the Wolves, played with them until he was 30. Garnett may have been a dick, but he lead the Wolves to the playoffs, and Western Conference finals. The Love reminds me of Stephon Mebury, only Marbury was jealous of Garnett and demanded a trade. In hind-sight, T-Wolves should have kept Ray Allen.

Remember Issah J.R. Rider, I thought the Wolves had promise with him, what a dick he became.

He was a dick from the start. Wonder if he sold his championship ring from his Laker season.

It can't be bad for MN. The only possible bad trade would be not to trade him.

Well, Well, the Summer of Love continues. Wiggins signs his contract and NBA Rules don't allow signed rookies to be traded for 30 days after they sign. Chicago Bulls were said to offer McBuckets, who is also signed. Thought I would post a couple youtube videos to pass the time.

Looks good to me. It's the best they could do, had to get rid of a potentially toxic Kevin Love (if he didn't get traded before this season) and get something (significant) for him before he just walked away next year.

First time the Timberwolves have had the #1 pick in the draft, going into that same season.
