Georgia State planning a massive new development on the site currently occupied by Turner Field in Atlanta. Turner Field is not but a few blocks from Georgia State's very urban campus. The proposal includes athletic facilities, which includes a 30,000 seat football stadium.

Great news for Georgia State. I think this is not good news if you are a Georgia Southern fan. This makes Ga State a whole lot more relevant than they were yesterday.

Sounds like a great project. I was in Atlanta a couple of years ago for a conference and stayed at a Holiday Inn near Turner Field. I remember the neighborhood on the other side of the stadium as being pretty blighted.

The stadium was built on cheap land (as was Fulton County stadium before it). It's not a great area of town, but it is close to Georgia State's campus.

I cannot help but think that is bad news for Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern's largest competitive advantage over Ga State was having an actual campus, football stadium, facilities, etc. Now, that advantage may be significantly curtailed.

Ga State is now proposing highly visible athletic facilities (right next to several busy interstates), in Atlanta, and by being on the south side of the city, allowing convenient access to several huge recruiting areas like Middle Georgia.

Cool. I love urban development.

Wasn't aware that the Braves were leaving. That stadium is "only" <20 years old. But a great win for GA St, if they can land it.

It may well hurt Georgia Southern in the long run, but I was referring to the debate a few years back on who the real GSU is. Maybe doggie wasn't thinking of that, but somehow I think he was. In any event, well done by Georgia State in being willing to invest in their facilities.

Braves are moving to Cobb County. As a baseball fan, I hate to see baseball move out to the suburbs, but it makes complete sense for the franchise. Glad to see that there is a useful plan for the site.
