i never put much stock in this pole. i'm a JMU fan and don't think there is any way they should be number one.

i agree that the gap's too big (i also think that Hansen's poll is crap), but let's not forget that JMU beat UNH handily at home and also beat a team that beat UNH (Northeastern) 52-14. regardless of Santos and Ball, i don't think UNH is that good.

(BTW, this post probably means that UNH is your 2006 NC.)

I think I would have to agree that Umass should be higher ranked than JMU. Hansen is just as entitled to his opinion.

Not sure what Hansen is on, but it must be good. Not sure I would have JMU at #1. Kind of a high rating for the hilltoppers too.

It's simply fickle. Just takes into account recent wins, etc., rather than a wider breadth of basis. The other polls often have me laughing too though...xidiotx

USD 13? That's a little much for me.

If polls are based on current play, UNI should be ahead of Cal Poly. But as with all polls, if you take care of business, they don't matter.

The whole thing's pretty much God-awful. I like JMU, but certainly not that much. I like USD, but nowhere near that much. And UNH being at 28 is a slap in the face. One more thing (yes, I'm biased, but...) a 3-5 Western Illinois team at #27 and a 5-3 Montana State team not in the top 40? Small college football expert? Yeesh.

UMass hasn't had their test yet... Sure they performed well vs. Navy, but UNH and Maine have a good chance and upending that basket.

I agree JMU shouldn't be ahead of UMass now, but I'm betting on us winning the conference since the toughest remaining games are at Del and Richmond and not UNH and Maine.

Like everybody else I have questioned Hansen's "polls" and some of his picks seem just plain whacky. Hansen is a Mid-West guy and he is familiar with the Gateway teams. It's not unusual to see 5 Gateway teams in his top 20.

He gets off base when he tries to gauge teams in the East and South IMHO.

One should keep in mind, He also ranks the top 40 in Division 2, Division 3, and the NAIA. All of this is a lot to digest so I find it is not that surprising that he doesn't get it all correct when it comes to I-AA. I give him credit for trying to rank 40 teams. I find it hard enough to make decisions about 25!!!:nod:

Don's breadth of knowledge about the 4 divisions he ranks suggests that he he has expertise in small college football. Whether or not he should be considered a I-AA expert is another matter.;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

It looks like he must hevily weight more recent results. Hence the low UNH ranking and high JMU ranking. Both have done poorly and very well respectively over the past 2 weeks.

doesn't the GPI use Hansen? That's why it's being posted here. As long as this Hansen poll and others (such as the one that has San Diego ranked #4) are used, the GPI has little merit, IMHO xcoffeex
