Interesting things going on with UCA Mens basketball.

First they hire a big name NBA Star to change the environment. That failed.

Then they put in a temporary coach. That failed too.

I think the Bears have won 6 games per year since joining division I.

Then this......

UCA hires Russ Pennell, former UCA Bear player and experienced division I (led Arizona to sweet 16 ) and pro coach to lead the Bears starting in 2014.

But here's the CRAZY part:

UCA's new basketball coach just dropped all the players who didn't have a 4.0.. what the hell is he thinking.

Ryan Rich @Ryan_Rich2 @AlvinBaltzell_3 (https://twitter.com/AlvinBaltzell_3) Dear lord, I'm surprised all of the players didn't get dropped

So if this is true, and I have knowledge of one recruit that he's gotten who's graduating with a 4.1 G.P.A. this year, is he looking to change the program totally??!!

Smart kids play better basketball? does it really matter with those previous records anyway? xlolx

If our girls team can have so much success, in nearly all sports, and most of our other mens teams too, then what is holding this basketball program from returning to playoff contention? could recruiting smart kids and booting the current players really be the answer?

I'm not sure on the tactic but it's possible he's looking for a clean slate and a complete culture change, work ethic sort of thing and since UCA is in about as bad a spot you'd want to be it can't hurt?

You are gonna be focused and work hard type of mindset looks to be where he's going to me.

The above is probably the best bet.

But is there any smoke on the horizon about NCAA issues with the previous coach or players?

Not that any fans are aware of. The program is clean as far as I can tell and A.D. Teague makes sure it stays that way. It's just that nothing has worked so far and this seems so radical for fans to see. He's a good coach, just amazing the sweeping of the house he's doing to the program. If its true.

Wow a 4.0 is a little steep but good luck to him. I don't think his coaching future looks as bright as his players GPA! xlolx
