Unless something has changed, Marcus Williams has a combine invite.

Yea, with all the press and Buzz Walt got at the senior bowl, I was sure he'd get the invite. Surprised.

Are you sure Marcus Williams isn't invited? This was from the local NDSU beat writer a few weeks ago: https://twitter.com/FGOSPORTSWRITER/status/421387712705212416
Williams' father, Jeff, said the agency told him Marcus received in invite to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

According to who? I ask because I have the official list from GMs and he is not on it.

That's media hype. He may get drafted but when they voted back in late November he was a PFA on most boards. I think he goes in the 6th or 7th round but he isn't rated as high by teams as the media. It's like last year when NFL Network said Catapano was a 4th round pick and he went 7th round. Aikens is one of those guys teams have a little bit lower right now. If he runs a 4.4 at pro day then he very well could sneak into the 4th or 5th round for sure.

Unless a NFL GM is playing tricks on me he is NOT on the NFL Combine invite list. Who is his agent? That's not good if he has an agent who isn't getting the correct information.

I doubt if we'll get a straight answer today with it being Signing day and all.

Could be wrong but I thought I saw a lot of scouts tweeting high praise as well. Anyway. He'll be hype for pro day and should nail it.

NFL scouts don't tweet and all. You mean media draftniks? Media people are not scouts. It's really a huge slap in the face to the training and experience NFL scouts have really had. Not being mean but just making sure you have it straight. Scouts did not tweet about him but NFL Draft media writers definitely were!

The Institute for Athletes out of Minneapolis (I guess???)
This was the tweet immediately preceding that last one from January 9th: https://twitter.com/FGOSPORTSWRITER/status/421387558979776512
Cornerback Marcus Williams signed with Institute for Athletes out of Minneapolis and is in Phoenix getting ready for East-West Shrine Game.

It zipped by on my Twitter feed a couple of weeks ago but it appears that the Combine ticket wasn't official. I'll bet that got missed by more than just me.

I never saw those reports but did look when it was mentioned here. I don't put a lot of stock into the media who reported that stuff. Agents put out false information all the time and journalists should be real careful in reporting it. They are known to say their guy ran a 4.45 40 when I get the sheet and it says 4.55.

Marcus is an alternate per our beat writer.
Alternate would be the wrong term. They call it the waiting list. He got a couple votes so he was on the waiting list but his only shot was if 40-50 underclassmen entered. When the numbers approached 70-80 there was no doubt he didn't have enough votes. There are over 100 underclassmen so a lot of guys on the waiting list missed out.
Not trying to be a jerk or know it all but I just happen to know about how that process goes because I'm close with several people who vote on it. Billy Turner got enough votes by far. I believe if they had only taken 200 players he still would have gotten in.

Where do you see Billy going at this stage in the process?

Top 100 as long as he does well at the Combine. He's got 3rd round grades by many in the NFL.

Glad to see two of my Coastal players invited. If they have good combines, I think they both could be drafted in the later rounds. Taliaferro doesn't have the speed that most teams are looking for, but with the success that Mike Tolbert (also from Coastal) has had with the Chargers and Panthers, it may increase his stock for teams looking for a good blocking back who has the power to convert short yardage situations but also can break away for some 10-20 yard gains on occasion.
Hazel was actually offered a scholarship with a FBS school (Georgia), but it came too late and he had already signed with Coastal. So he has the skills to hang with the big dogs.

Right now he is a free agent. If a FCS player is not invited to the combine or did not have a big performance in a major all-star game like the Senior Bowl or NFLPA Game, he is a free agent by most teams.

Lorenzo is a different style back from Tolbert but it definitely doesn't hurt coming from the same school.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure on the terminology so thanks for clearing that up.
What kind of numbers does Billy need to put up at the combine to raise his stock even more?

Freak numbers because he's up there pretty high right now. If he ran a 5.0 or 4.9 that would raise eyes for sure. Most expect a sub 5.1 or so. If he can bend 30 plus reps would raise eyes.

Official list has come out and several FCS players reported by media are not on the list. Marcus Williams, Lucky Dozier, and a few others were falsely reported.
