With this new coach I'm not sure about the players that signed. I know they are good or else they wouldn't be going to college but none of us fans know for sure what style of player coach is looking at to recruit. Big bag of variety in this class from everywhere! UCA will be the ? mark this year in the conference. Conque is great at recruiting skill players..this new coach is getting them TALL. So many OVER 6 feet... not used to that. xlolx

Before the bragging begins, here is something to read:

How to Evaluate and Grade a Signing Class:

1. Print out signing day announcement with players' names and bio's.
2. Wait five years.
3. Locate previously printed out signing day sheet.
4. Look at signing day sheet and determine who is and who is not still around. And, of those still around, determine who made significant contributions during their careers.
5. Grade signing day class.

That is all. :D

I don't think anyone is "bragging" about all their signees. Heck, Conque signed some "nobody" players that turned out to be stars in the SLC. Expect him to do the same.

Ere go the question. Was he leaving anyway? Was he on his last leg as coach at UCA? (with all his troubles) or did he pull the rug out from under fans (maybe not the administration) WHO KNOWS? But I think SLC teams have his preferred bubble screen offense figured out now either way.

Judging by Campbell's press conference, he seems the most excited about Wymer, Best and Matthew Hall

I think Wymer could play a lot and try to replace some of Chase Dixon's production...Hall looked like a TFL machine in his highlights. And he hinted that Best might play right away, saying that we'll need his speed off the edge in our first game against Texas Tech

responsible for nearly 1300 yards rushing and 23 TDs plus 2600 yards passing with 28 Tds. That's 51 TDs and nearly 4000 yards HIS SENIOR YEAR ALONE. He will be a playmaker for UCA.

We have several candidates ... of the midyear group, I'd have to say either Micah Eugene, DB, LSU transfer, or Jordan Batiste, DB, Tulane transfer ... both started games and have playmaking ability. Batiste had 7 sacks from the CB position this past season and was All-Conference USA HM the last two years. He's called the Baby Badger for a reason. Another is Herbert Harris, LB, 6-1, 240 ... very productive JC player with ability run sideline to sideline and excels in pass coverage.

Of the high school group, Anthony Milton, DB, 6-1, 195, Landry-Walker HS, New Orleans, was a BCS level recruit who was committed to Utah ... he impacts on both defense and the return game with potential to be a dominating player in the SLC and FCS. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1478920/highlights/91848375

My sleeper is Joe Pack, CB, 6-1,180, Salmen HS, Slidell, La ... has a hoops background and played WR in high school ... runs a legitimate sub 4.5 40, with excellent ball skills ... reminds me of a taller, longer Robert Alford, who had similar skills coming out of high school. His teammate, Aaron Craig, Safety, 6-0, 180, is the reigning Class 4A state champion in the high jump at 6-6. And Peyton Winbush, OL, 6-3, 305, is another FBS level recruit with a ton of upside. Just turned 17 years old.

One player that is the gem of our class? Tough question.

I don't know who might emerge long term. In terms of immediate impact, I would say we have three candidates who stand the best chance of seeing the field this fall and who are likely to impress: Our two freshmen QB's (Cody Ennis and Dallas Sealey) and three star (247) freshman middle linebacker Dylan Douglass. If I had to choose just one, I think Dallas Sealey from Lawton, Ok. will start at QB and make an immediate impact.

Like his "role model" Russell Wilson, Sealey is a two-star (Rivals) dual threat QB who lacks the size of a prototype drop back QB (6'1, 185) and is seen by many as a better prospect in baseball (his fast ball touches 90 mph) than football. He seemed like an ACU lock until the University of Northern Iowa made a last minute offer and serious effort to recruit him. Very accurate passer (no interceptions his senior year), mobile, and can make all the throws going to either side of the field. Hello, read option offense.

In the end, he chose ACU because competition for our starting job is as wide open as our offense.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ7owvEthek

I could be wrong though. Heck, Sealey is not even the most highly recruited of our two QB recruits and is not assured of starting (we have 6 QB's on scholasrhip) but my hunch is he wins the competition and starts.

Last year We signed two freshmen (a three star and a two star prospect) who red shirted in 2013 and transfer Herschel Sims (via Lamar and Oklahoma State), who was required to sit out a year before becoming eligible. As far as I know, Larry Rose of Fairfield was the only RB we went after this year. He signed with NM State and we didn't go after another rb.

Wow! 31 signees and transfers, plus a reduction of two scholarships from the recent NCAA penalty means that the class of 20`14 accounts for 33 of your 63 scholarships...

I didn't realize that your roster was down to 30 players before this signing class...

I gotta ask....How in the hell are you guys handling the APR requirements???

We're cheating.:)

In all seriousness ... we've been over this, it seems like 1000 times. We lost 15 seniors to graduation, a junior and a freshman to career ending injuries, and had two players transfer prior to the season. We signed 20 scholarship players (not all full), plus an FBS transfer who's paying his on way this year... and we announced 11 preferred walk-ons (actually announced 10, but we picked up another after the release.)

As for the NCAA penalties, as I understand it, we were already under the scholarship limit in anticipation of the NCAA accepting our self-imposed penalties, so they were already factored in. As for our APR, it has steadily improved and we had a great fall in the classroom, leading the Southland Conference in number of football players on the Academic Honor Roll, with 46. We don't anticipate losing anyone to academics, though as you know, that's always fluid.

One of the players tweeted this photo of changes in the uniform/equipment: Looks like they added a white outline to the logo and added white stripes to go along the top of the helmet. Looks better IMO. But I'm more excited to see the product on the field than on the players.

It's not the pants anyone cared about...it was the underwear on the outside of them that bothered people. xlolx

Depends.

On which year you mean. Timmy went from:
2011: 6.6 ypc
2012: 5.7 ypc
2013: 3.7 ypc

Looks like those undies really helped! xlolx
and in the Sammie Hayday you only won ONE of those games against us. xlolx

Just kidding! Flanders will be missed by the fans and NOT missed by SLC defenses I guarantee it! He was a class act when I got to speak to him on the sidelines. I wonder who will replace him?

Funny I almost added "since they y'all actually did catch him by the jock more in 2013 they decided they better get rid of them ASAP!"

And yes Keyshawn "musclebus" Hill will be a big time performer this year!

Also the transfer Donavan Williams looks like hes going to be a beast! runs really hard! Cant wait to see this kid.

That SFA line looks smaller than in recent years. Harper always seemed to have a lineup that averaged over 300lbs and were 6'5" plus. They couldn't move but they were tough to get around.

Ask Zach Conque to show you how he can throw the ball 10 yards, let hit the field giving it a spin, and bounce right to the receiver. Nifty little trick he and Brown were goofing around practicing one day at Estes. Kid has talent.

I'd like to try a predict an order of finish for the SLC next year but WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many variables come into play this year.

SELA
McNeese
???????

Well, those two are pretty strong... I'm sure Sam will be too.

Any thoughts?

I'll have a better picture of how things will be after the spring. New coach, new QB, new offensive scheme, new defensive scheme, many questions on how good Sam will be.

My pre- spring way to early picks anyway :

1 SELA
2 McNeese
3 Sam
4 SFA
5 UCA
6 ACU
7 NWST
8 Lamar
9 UIW
10 Nicholls
11 HBU

3-10 ????????????????
11. HBU

UCA, Sam, SFA....new coaches, new systems.

ACU. Loses its QB, top 2 RB's and 4 of its 5 leading receivers.

Lamar looked stronger last year.

Nice picks!

I've created a messageboard for SLC fans called slcfootball.com. I'm hoping to get SLC fans there to unify our chats about the league. (I've already got Ursus to approve my addying this here ) Just go there and request membership. It's free and I'm paying all costs to run it. I'll approve posters, but please be patient with it...it's basic and I'm still learning all the permissions for posters, pics for layout etc.. . Thanks! I'll approve posters ASAP! If no one wants it, I'll just take it down... but I'm hoping for a little interaction offseason between fans to keep the hype alive! xlolx

SELU and then who knows. McNeese has to replace a three year starting QB from a group with very limited playing time.

Dunno about predictions, but we should be a lot better in 2014, for whatever it's worth. Spring practice should be very, very interesting.

QB - Cole Martin could be Keeler's next Joe Flacco.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/610018/highlights

He moves better than Flacco. At 6-3, this kid really moves well. Anxious to see him on the field. My understanding he committed verbally to SHSU his junior year.

Flanders averaged 5.7ypc in 2013. Not sure where you got 3.7 unless it is a typo.

Those rushing stats I put up were against us only, which was the topic of the conversation.

Figured it out. Had to do some Godaddy reconfiguring on the email account notices. Geez this stuff isn't easy. Guess that's why Ursus and the crew should be supported! Go register and I'll approve you now. Thanks for the patience!
