I'm pretty excited Ben Lucas decided to stay home and go to UMaine. He broke every passing record the state of Maine had (I think a lot of them were held by former BC quarterback Quinton Porter), and is a VERY legit 6'4" 220. I stood on the sidelines for one of his games this fall and he is a man.

Excellent for Maine. Who else was he considering. I liked Quinton Porter...a lot. Thought he had horrible coaching at BC.

I don't know who else offered. His recruitment was pretty quiet. Maine added another QB from Mass., too. I updated the list above.

Lucas had offers from Bryant and D-2 Assumption. I guarantee that if Lucas played in NJ or PA........his recruitment would have been much different.;)
That being said, I think that Belcher is the one to watch here........both will most likely be red-shirted. I believe that Maine's next "it" QB will be one of these guys......I think that the QB position was a recruiting priority even though there are 3 other QBs listed on the roster. Those guys will have a chance to prove themselves over the next season or 2.
I also like how Maine addressed both their DL and OL with some beef! That was THE priority with this class IMO.

He took a visit to Cal this past weekend. Perhaps he became out of UNH's reach, im not sure.

4 3-star recruits
1 4 star transfer who started in the ACC
At least 4 kids that are currently in the Top 3 at their position on Rivals/Scout that have committed to FCS schools.
Plus a couple kids that turned down Big 5 offers including another LB from Good Counsel in MD who turned down an offer from North Carolina according to ESPN. That gives us three LBs from Good Counsel in the last 3 years with two of them being the highest rated LBs who signed with any FCS team.
This class is amazing for us. Other CAA teams might be used to this kind of talent but we're not. We're used to seeing under recruited guys that Ford turned into great NEC players. This is much different than that.
Hopefully it pans out on the field.

Pardon the lack of formatting, but I grabbed this straight off Towson's website. We have a couple of very solid running backs coming in to team with Darius Victor to make up for some of the immense production by Terrance West. There are some other potential big-time players in this class, but I won't pretend to be an expert on such things.

How much, if any, of the increase in apparent talent do you attribute to your new conference? I say apparent because the recruits have yet to play a college down.

If they can get Madaras to play up to his abilities, he will dominate. Unfortunately, lack of a work ethic and some rumored failed drug tests really hurt him at Maryland. He was a penalty machine but he has all the talent in the world. Let's hope the change of scenery does him well.

The good thing is I'm sure Coach Gattuso knows him well since was Asst. Head Coach at Maryland. I'm also hoping the presence of his brother will motivate him even more.

Anyone see any place online that grades or rates the FCS classes?

FBS grades make somewhat sense because they are recruiting the elite players though if you look 3-4 years later, you'll see that there are a number that don't matchup. FCS is more of a crapshoot (though not completely) since there are so many players on that level that are being recruited that many of the players are not even ranked by the recruiting agencies so they don't make as much sense.

There are that list some FCS teams, if they have enough rated players. However, outside of someone making a list and doing a lot of manual work we don't have a system to rate all of FCS.

Keep in mind our schools have limited scholarships (some have none) so we generally recruit based on position need rather than the next top HS player. I'm betting your coach offered a TE or whatever because that's what you needed instead of another 3-star RB.

That's a really good point and exactly what makes it impossible to rank FCS classes against each other.
The Patsy ratings system that the guys on here do for the Patriot League classes is the best shot I've seen, but its only for Patriot League teams. Its good because it does just that - ranks the classes against what the team needs. Tries to get to an apples-to-apples comparison. But of course its overblown and verbose because its compiled by blowhard Patriot League guys. ;)

So, in other words, if fans of a FCS conference like the low rent Patriot League have one, a tier 1 FCS conference like the CAA should have something much nicer. I'm tracking.
