Sounds like they had passed the course, then the name changed and they took the class again in order to maintain GPA/credits.

I don't understand that they keep the 11-0 regular season and 13-1 record. I guess that they don't call them forfeits anymore.

Also- Minot State hired former MSU head coach Todd Hoffner. Minot plays at Mankato in the game three of the 2014 season. That will be interesting.

Could it be b/c this is the conference taking this action instead of the NCAA itself? I don't really know how all that works, but perhaps the conference has the authority to nullify/change their "conference champion" for that year, but they don't have the authority to declare contests as forfeits.

That would make sense. Butch Raymond, the retiring commissioner, made the decision. I doubt if the NCAA was ever involved since it was self reported. $2500 fine probably paid for the investigation.

Things getting messy at MSU-Mankato.

The very first day that Todd Hoffner was set to return to his position (http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/story/25262776/todd-hoffner-returns-to-football-practice-at-msu-mankato-wednesday) as head football coach at Minnesota State University in Mankato, the team refused to practice.
The team is demanding that Aaron Keen, who replaced Hoffner after he was terminated, remain their head coach.

That entire situation just seems really really strange.

I"m not sure I'd want to go back if I was Hoffner, even if he was right from the start

Heard is family was in Mankato, wife has been teaching for 5 years. He had a single apartment in Minot. I can see why he went back, but I'm still not sure I would have.

This thing is a total mess. Yesterday players read a statement supporting Interim Coach Keen. They were ticked that no one had talked to them about this at all. So there was no practice. There is a meeting today between coaches, players, and the AD- which they should have done before taking the field.

I haven't heard yet what Minot is going to do. Mankato has too many coaches, Minot not enough. Bad situation from the beginning, getting worse.
