Okay, I'll give an example of a I-AA football fan from California starting a thread not solely for the purpose of promoting his/her football program!!!
What's your favorite fight song at your U?
UC Davis has a bunch...I like Big C !!!
Big C
We are Sons of California,
fighting for the Gold and Blue.
Palms of glory we will win
for Alma Mater true.
Sac State's men will soon be routed,
by our dazzling C.
We'll stomp 'em in the mud,
their green will turn to blood,
in our hour of victory!

Fight on! You Catamounts,
Fight for purple and gold.
Fight on to victory,
True warriors bold.
Wave the royal banner high,
And let it fill the Western sky.
So, fight on! you Catamounts,
Fight to vic-to-ry!
Western, Western, Go-Western! Go--Cats!
Fight on! You Catamounts,
Fight for purple and gold.
Fight on to victory,
True warriors bold.
Wave the royal banner high,
And let it fill the Western sky.
So, fight on! you Catamounts,
Fight to vic-to-ry!

The Words to "Up With Montana"
Up with Montana, boys,
down with the foe,
Good ol' Grizzlies
out for a victory;
We'll shoot our backs
'round the foemen's line;
Hot time is coming now,
oh, brother mine.
Up with Montana, boys,
down with the foe,
Good old Grizzlies
triumph today;
And the squeal of the pig
will float on the air;
From the tummy of
the Grizzly Bear.

"On Lafayette"
Down the field we swing in perfect trim
Behind the team we've played to win
And as we swing we sing a marching song;
And the song we sing is on the theme
Of Lafayette and her team.
We'll swing the Chorus as we swing along.
On, Lafayette! On Lafayette!
On, on to greater deeds, Lafayette,
Give, Lafayette! Give, Lafayette,
Give, give the best that's in you
And hope for a vict'ry.
FIGHT! LAFAYETTE! FIGHT! LAFAYETTE!
Fight the fight and keep your heads unbowed;
Win, you're victorious!
Lose, just as glorious!
Men of Lafayette, of you we sing.
FIGHT!

There's also an older fight song which contains the following:
Dig Lehigh's grave both wide and deep, wide and deep.
Put tombstones at her head and feet, head and feet,
And from each sweater take away the "L,"
Which Lafayette alone guards well.:rotateh:

http://fightmusic.com/mp3/ivy/Harvard_Tom_Lehrer__Fight_Fiercely_Harvard.mp3
Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight!
Demonstrate to them our skill.
Albeit they possess the might,
Nonetheless we have the will.
How we will celebrate our victory,
We shall invite the whole team up for tea. (How jolly!)
Hurl that spheroid down the field,
And fight, fight, fight!
Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight!
Impress them with our prowess, do!
Oh, fellas, do not let the crimson down,
Be of stout heart and true.
Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard's glorious name!
Won't it be peachy if we win the game? (Oh, goody!)
Let's try not to injure them,
But fight, fight, fight!
Let's not be rough, though!
Fight, fight, fight!
And do fight fiercely!
Fight, fight, fight!

"The Fordham Ram" (1905)
J. Ignatius Coveney, FCRH 1906
Hail, men of Fordham, hail,
Onto to the fray.
Once more our foes assail in strong array;
Once more the old Maroon, Wave on high.
We'll sing our battle song;
We do or die.
With a Ram, a Ram, a Ram for victory;
A Ram, a Ram, a Ram for loyalty.
To the fight, to the fight!
To win our laurels bright!
Hail, men of Fordham, hail,
Onto to the fray.
Once more our foes assail in strong array;
Once more the old Maroon, Wave on high.
We'll sing our battle song;
We do or die.

Great thread.
I absolutely love dear old Fordham's fight song. It really is a great one.
I have to say that I love the Al Jolsen-ish Hahvahd one also. Anytime you have "hurl that spheroid down the field" it's tough to beat.
YSU's is a great one as well. It really sounds like it should be on a greatest fight songs compilation along with ND, Michigan, etc.
Incredible what a really good and large marching band can add to it. Ours sounds more feeble when our small Ivy-like band plays it but I would love to hear it with that huge band music going.
Again, love this thread.

ASU's fight song is a suped-up version of Die Bergvagabunden, an old German folk song about mountain climbing. The title of the song means "The Mountain Vagabond."
The chorus goes...
Herrliche Berge, sonnige Höhen, (wonderful mountains, sunny heights)
Bergvagabunden sind wir, ja wir. (mountain vagabonds are we, yeah we)
It's a fun song, complete with yodeling. It makes you want to go to Oktoberfest and drink a giant stein of Weizenbier.
You can download it on iTunes and many other music download services. I like the Die Bärentalsänger Und Solisten version, on the album Volk Meisters: Die Bärentalsänger Und Solisten - Der Summa Is Umma.

Unfortunately the "best" fight song I have ever heard comes not from a I-AA football team, but from a band called the Austin Lounge Lizards who wrote the fight song for the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.
At one time I tried to download all of the D-I (A and AA) fight songs that I could, but a hard drive crash left me with just memories and I have not gone back and done it again. Maybe we could do stickie here like the one for the websites to listen to other teams games for the fight songs?

The Lehrer song, as performed by him, is a hoot! The author of "Vatican Rag, "New Math," "National Brotherhood Week" and "The Old Dope Peddler" -- among countless other satiric lyrics -- penned a better fight song than any of Harvard's actual fight songs!

Our official fight song is "On McNeese". This are supposed to be the lyrics but I've never heard them sung:
Our Cowboys fight for victory,
They knock their foes out one, two, three,
They roll aside all opposition,
Blocking their position,
Striving in close harmony.
To victory we'll march tonight,
Winning 'cause all Cowboys fight.
They run the score to size galore and
Then they score some more.
Hail, McNeese, Hail!
Here is what it sounds like. On McNeese (http://www.geauxcowboys-eastside.org/onmcneese.mp3)
But the unofficial fight song in the hearts of all Cowboy Fans is "Jolie Blonde" which is played after all touchdowns. And we don't need any lyrics. All you need is a bunch of half drunk Cowboy fans swaying and clapping to the music and the world is perfect.
Here is how it sounds: Jolie Blonde (http://www.geauxcowboys-eastside.org/jolieblonde.mp3)
We need to do more of that this season.

There is a good version of it there. I think it is an old polka song. I researched it once and there is a lot of different verses that go with it.

While my vote goes to the JMU fight song (I'm a homer), I'm also partial to Hail to the Victors.
About the "Hey" song. Not football related, but the pep band at JMU basketball games was instructed to stop playing the song during 30 second timeouts. The "classy" lyrics from the student section were:
Hey -- You Suck
Hey -- You Suck
Hey -- You Suck
J-M-U says suck these nuts.
Well, the student section caught on that we had been banned from playing it, so they, of course, sang it themselves.

NDSU's official fight song: On Bison (http://www.gobison.com/downloads1/4443.mp3)
On Bison carry the fight
State is backing you
Green and yellow colors bright
To them, we will be true
(Yell) STATE BISON!
Fight them right back to their goal
A victory for our name
On you Bison
(Yell) FIGHT YOU BISON!!
Stampede and win this game.
I actually prefer the alternate fight song: Fight Song (http://www.gobison.com/downloads1/4442.mp3)(We Are The Pride)
Verse:
We are the pride of North Dakota
State collegiates are we
Sons of the green and yellow prairies
Our colors will ever be
(Yell) STATE BISON!!
Cheer for our dear ol' alma mater
Proud and loyal are we
And we'll fight -- RAH! RAH!
Yes we'll fight -- RAH! RAH!
For North Dakota State U team.
Chorus:
Cheer for the Bison -- HIT 'EM AGAIN! HIT 'EM AGAIN!
Cheer for the Bison -- HIT 'EM AGAIN! HIT 'EM AGAIN!
Band refrain -- (Yell) FIGHT!
Band refrain -- (Yell) FIGHT!
Band refrain -- (Yell) FIGHT!
Repeat chorus.
And the good 'ole alma mater: Yellow And Green (http://www.gobison.com/downloads1/4444.mp3)
Ho! A cheer for green and yellow.
Up with yellow and the green,
They're the shades that deck our prairies
Far and wide with glorious sheen,
Fields of waving green in springtime
Golden yellow in the fall,
How the great high-arching heaven looks and laughs upon it all.
Here in autumn throng the nations
Just to gather in the spoil,
Throng on freight cars from the cities
Some to feast and some to toil,
But the yellow grain flows eastward
And the yellow gold flows back,
Barren cities boast their plenty and the prairies know no lack.
Hushed up on the boundless prairies
Is the Bison's thund'ring tread,
And the redman passes with him
On his spoilers bounty fed,
But the Norse, the Celt, and Saxon
With their herds increase and find,
Mid these fields of green and yellow plenty e'en for all mankind.
All music: C.S. Putnum(1859-1944)
All words: A. E. Minard(1878-1950)
Music performed by the NDSU Gold Star Marching Band (during some fall concert or another)

Give another Hoiah and a Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah!
A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah, for Holy Cross!
March on as knights of old
With hearts as loyal and true and bold,
And wage the bitter fight with all your might,
Fight hard for Holy Cross!
You'll know when battle's done,
It was for her that the fight was won,
Oh, may it never die, that battle cry,
On, on for Holy Cross!

The second most played song at Paladin stadium is our band's version of "Rock you like a Hurricane", which pays homage to the football team's old nickname, known as the Purple Hurricane until the early 60's I believe.

Hofstra
March on, march on, old Hofstra team
Proud of it's Blue and Gold (BLUE AND GOLD!)
Carry our banner down the field
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
That line must hold, hold, hold
Keep Driving...
Go on you Flying Dutchmen Go
Loyal, strong and true we'll always be (always be)
March on, march on for HOFSTRA,
on to VIC-TOR-Y!

Tarleton's Fight Song-
"On Ye Tarleton" (http://www.tarleton.edu/~music/images/ColorSongFightSong.mp3)
On Ye Tarleton,
On Ye Tarleton,
Break right through that line
Ever forward, Ever onward
We'll get there or die.
On Ye Tarleton, On Ye Tarleton
Fight for Victory;
Fight, Texans, Fight! Fight! Fight!
And win this game.
Texas State--
"Go Bobcats!" (http://www.txstate.edu/bobcatband/audio/TxS2003-go_bobcats.mp3)
Go Bobcats all the way,
Keep that maroon and gold on high!
Fight on for every play
Until you hear that Bobcat battle cry!
We're gonna cheer for our team today
Until the whole world knows our name,
No doubt about it,
We're gonna shout it --
Bobcats will win this game!
As much as I like fight songs, I love Drum cadences even more..

All Hail the white and purple

Hear the shouts of triumph
Echo through the Sky(Fight Fight Fight)
Roll the cheering onward
Hail full and free
Vic'try be now for Furman University(F-U-R-M-A-N Go Fight Win FURMAN!)
The second most played song at Paladin stadium is our band's version of "Rock you like a Hurricane", which pays homage to the football team's old nickname, known as the Purple Hurricane until the early 60's I believe.
http://www.furman.edu/depts/music/areasofstudy/Bands/mp3/mp3.htm
Here is the link to a few of our bands mp3 clips. Our Fight Song is at the bottom of the list...
Yeah and we run onto the field while "Rock You Like a Hurricane" is being played. Its kind of like an unnofficial fight song.

It's almost game day for 2007 so lets get this thread going again, I know there are lots of good fight songs out there. So what about the rest of you SoCon schools..... either no fight song or ashamed of it?????? If you got one, post a link to it.
HA! I thought this was an old thread, but didn't look at the dates. We had a pretty nasty thread I think on CAAZone onr time about the JMU song, comparing it to the Loony Tunes. :p
Anyway, the UD fight song...
And then we'll fight! fight! fight! for Delaware,
Fight for the Blue and Gold,
And when we hit that line,
Our team is there
with a daring spirit bold
And when we strike with might
Let foes beware
Our glorious name we'll uphold
And then we'll fight! fight! fight! for Delaware,
Fight for the Blue and Gold,
Delaware will shine to-night,
Delaware will shine.
When the sun goes down and
the moon comes up,
Delaware will shine.
Nobody actually sings it at the games, but the music is something that I remember from early childhood going to games.

Fight on! You Catamounts,
Fight for purple and gold.
Fight on to victory,
True warriors bold.
Wave the royal banner high,
And let it fill the Western sky.
So, fight on! you Catamounts,
Fight to vic-to-ry!
Western, Western, Go-Western! Go--Cats!
Fight on! You Catamounts,
Fight for purple and gold.
Fight on to victory,
True warriors bold.
Wave the royal banner high,
And let it fill the Western sky.

Same here! I remember being a little kid and humming the fight song to myself during our back yard football games. :p
Another UD song ingrained in my head from childhood was "Delaware Forever" which the band plays after each Hen's touchdown.
Delaware Forever
Delaware forever
Hurrah boys, hurrah!
Up with her banner, and fling it afar
There on her emblem
So fearless and free
Forever and ever,
The Blue and Gold shall be.

"Big C" and "Sons of California" are all-UC fight songs. ucla took the tune for "Big C" and made it "Sons of Westwood". Most UCs also have their own fight songs..."Aggie Fight" at UC Davis and "Lights Out" at UC Berkeley are the two main ones I know. UC Davis also has "Roll Big CA Roll" and "Mighty Aggies of UCD"; UC Berkeley has "Golden Bear", "Stanford Jonah" and "California, We're For You" amongst many others. All UCs have the same Alma Mater "Hail To California".

The video shows the Pride of the Dakotas playing SDSU's two school songs, and other football game day chants and cheers. The first school song you will hear is Ring the Bells, and the second is our Alma Mater The Yellow and Blue.
RING THE BELLS
Ring the bells for South Dakota
The Yellow and the Blue;
Cheer the team from South Dakota
With loyal hearts so true;
Win the game for South Dakota
The School that serves us well;
We will fight for South Dakota
So let's ring, ring, ring those bells.
THE YELLOW AND BLUE
We come from the Sioux and Missouri,
The Cheyenne and the Jim,
From pine clad peaks of the Black Hills,
Brimful of vigor and vim.
We sing the song of the prairie,
The home of the Yellow and Blue.
The gleaming gold of the corn field,
The flax of azure hue.
(chorus)
Oh SDSU hurrah for the Yellow and Blue;
Old SDSU all honor and glory to you;
For ever raise the song in praise both loud and long
With loyal heart so true (so true)
Oh loyal hearts and true (and true,
so true).

Doc
Doc,
Not only is it the unofficial fight song in the hearts of all Cowboy fans, it's also widely considered the Cajun National Anthem and has been covered by stars as diverse as Roy Acuff and Bruce Springsteen. Just about every Zydeco artist, ever, has done a version, too...
Here's the original French lyrics from the 1920's, the English translation, plus the versions recorded by Acuff and Springsteen...
The original 1928 Jolie Blonde version by Amadie, Ophy, Cleoma Breaux
In French:
Jolie blonde, regardez donc quoi t'as fait,
Tu m'as quitte pour t'en aller,
Pour T'en aller avec un autre, oui, que moi,
Quel espoir et quel avenir, mais, moi, je vais avoir?
Jolie blonde, tu m'as laisse, moi tout seul,
Pour t'en aller chez ta famille.
Si t'aurais pas ecoute tos les conseils de les autres
tu serait ici-t-avec moi aujourd 'hui
Jolie blonde, tu croyais il y avait just toi,
Il y a pas just toi dans le pays pour moi aimer.
Je peux trouver just une autre jolie blonde,
Bon Dieu sait, moi, j'ai un tas.
In English
Pretty blond, look at what you've done,
You left me to go away,
to go away with another, yes, than me,
What hope and what future am I going to have?
Pretty blond, you've left me all alone
To go back to your family.
If you had not listened to all the advice of the others
You would be here with me today.
Pretty blond, you thought there as just you,
There is not just you in the land to love me.
I can find another pretty blond,
Good God knows, I have a lot.
Roy Acuff's (early American Country musician) version:
In the evening, in the shadows,
I'll be waiting, in Louisi- an - a,
And when I hear your sweet voice,
I'll rejoice, I'll be happy,
And saving my kisses for you.
Jole Blon, cajun Angel,
Let me tell you how I love you,
In the springtime you promised,
That we would be married,
And I'm waiting, still waiting for you.
Oh - - ho - - ho, ah - - ha - - ha.
When your hair turns to silver,
I'll still call you, Delta Flower,
Pretty Blond I still love you,
I love you I promise,
And I'm patiently waiting for you.
Oh - - ho - - ho, ah - - ha - - ha.
Bruce Springsteen's (American Rock musician) version:
Jole Blon, you're my flower
You're my darling, you're my sunshine
I love you, I adore you
I promise to be true
Over here in the shadows
I will be waiting, I will
When I hear you're voice I rejoice
I save my love for you
Jole Blon, you're an angel
Can I tell you how I love you?
In the spring I swear we will be married
I'm waiting still for you
When your hair turns to silver
I will still call you my flower
Jole Blon I'll still love you
I'll save my love for you
We will go away from this city
We will go back girl, to our home
I swear some day I will take you
'Cause so far away we have roamed
And the bells they will ring
From the mountain to the valley
On the banks of the river
There you will be my bride

Official:
I've never heard the tune, to my knowledge:
Hail Wofford, Old Gold and Black
With poise and dignity
Prepare for a valiant attack
To claim thy victory
Sound the call for the battle
Salute the flag on the pole
Defend our founding father's name
By fighting for that goal!
Hail Wofford, Old Gold and Black
We're proud to claim your name
With honor and pride we attack
Now go and win this game!
Unofficial:
As the team comes on the field:
Back in black, I hit the sack,
I've been too long, I'm glad to be back
Yes I'm let loose from the noose,
That's kept me hangin' about
I been livin' like a star 'cause it's gettin' me high,
Forget the hearse, 'cause I never die
I got nine lives, cat's eyes
abusing every one of them and running wild
[Chorus]
'Cause I'm back! Yes, I'm back!
Well, I'm back! Yes, I'm back!
Well, I'm baaack, baaack...
Well, I'm back in black,
Yes, I'm back in black!

I kinda like (I hope I get it right):
Fight fiercely, Harvard!
Fight, fight, fight!
Demonstrate to them our skill.
Albeit they possess the might,
Nonetheless, we have the will!
How we will celebrate our victory;
We will invite the whole team up for tea (how jolly)!
Hurl that spheroid down the field
And Fight, fight, fight!
Fight Fiercely Harvard!
Fight, fight, fight!
Impress them with our prowess, do!
Do not let
The Crimson down;
Be of stout heart and true. (C'mon, chaps!)
Fight for Harvard's glorious name...
Won't it be peachy? if we win the game (oh goody)?
Try not to injure them, but
Fight, fight, fight!
(And do fight fiercely!)
Fight, fight, fight!
(But don't get rough, though...)
Fight, fa-a-ight, fight!

Whoops! Whaddya know...someone beat me to it! That's what I get for not reading the entire thread.
'Course, there's also the versions of our OPPONENT's fight songs...some of which are not meant for public consumption.
We...acquired...a book from the USC band, once. Amongst other things, there was a nice version of the ucla fight song, and another for Notre Dame.
Heh, heh.

My favorite is from Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA.
The Geoduck Fight Song
(words and music by Malcolm Stilson, 1971)
Go, Geoducks go,
Through the mud and the sand,
let's go.
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.
Go, Geoducks go,
Stretch your necks when the tide
is low
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.

I actually prefer the alternate fight song: Fight Song (http://www.gobison.com/downloads1/4442.mp3)(We Are The Pride)
Verse:
We are the pride of North Dakota
State collegiates are we
Sons of the green and yellow prairies
Our colors will ever be
(Yell) STATE BISON!!
Cheer for our dear ol' alma mater
Proud and loyal are we
And we'll fight -- RAH! RAH!
Yes we'll fight -- RAH! RAH!
For North Dakota State U team.
Chorus:
Cheer for the Bison -- HIT 'EM AGAIN! HIT 'EM AGAIN!
Cheer for the Bison -- HIT 'EM AGAIN! HIT 'EM AGAIN!
Band refrain -- (Yell) FIGHT!
Band refrain -- (Yell) FIGHT!
Band refrain -- (Yell) FIGHT!
Repeat chorus.
All music: C.S. Putnum(1859-1944)
All words: A. E. Minard(1878-1950)
Music performed by the NDSU Gold Star Marching Band (during some fall concert or another)
I prefer this one, too. Partially because it was actually originally written about the GSMB. (hence "We Are The Pride of North Dakota!")

This one actually combines two fight songs into one!
Ring out with your Hoiah and
A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah,
A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah!
A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah, Rah Rah Rah!
Give another Hoiah and a Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah!
A Chu, Chu, Rah, Rah, for Holy Cross!
Of course, it's practically the same as Marquette, another school whoch borrowed the Hoya cheer from Georgetown...
Ring out Ahoya with
an M.U.Rah Rah,
M.U.Rah Rah!
M.U.Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah!
Ring out Ahoya with an M.U. Rah, Rah,
M.U. Rah Rah for Old Marquette!
