You know I don't watch the NFL anymore but it's hard to not see highlights and reports of things that happen over the weekend especially when they are so far out there that even the hardest of the hard core fans say foul. That's what happened this weekend when Erin Andrews interviewed the Seattle Seahawks corner Richard Sherman. I'm sure all or most of you have seen the interview where he went off on a tirade. I don't agree with that kind of nonsense and it's what turns me off from the NFL. But I have to give the writer at Yahoo some credit in the report I've linked. Again I'm not saying I agree with his Shermans antic's because I don't. I think it makes him look like a fool. But I will say the explanation that the writer gave was the best attempt at waving it off as "to be expected" and in a way he's correct. To quote him
It's fine to seek out a player who is capable of calmly shutting off his emotion, acting with humility (even if it's just an act) and harkening back to some Chip Hilton lesson of yesterday. There are plenty of those guys in the NFL too. Just don't expect everyone to be the same.Maybe in an ideal world that's how it would be. This isn't an ideal world. Expecting anything out of football players other than playing football is to set yourself up for extreme disappointment.
or this..
Certainly virtually all would agree that class and camaraderie are superior concepts to gloats and greed. It'd be great if it didn't occur. It'd be great if no one cut anyone off in traffic or backstabbed for a promotion or scammed the government or any number of other things, too.
So while I don't care for his behavior it is what it is. Today's NFL isn't our Fathers NFL or ours for those of us who can remember the 60's and 70's and the players who played back then. This crap would never have happened back then.
Here's the article. If you have time I really suggest you read it. I'm also not much of a fan of Yahoo most of the time but this one is a good one.
