CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its 2014 and 2015 football League schedules. New associate member Monmouth University makes its Big South debut next fall, and the League’s six football-playing members will each play a 5-game Conference schedule in 2014 to determine the Big South’s automatic qualifier to the FCS Playoffs. The schedule expands in 2015 with the addition of start-up Kennesaw State University.
The 2014 Conference slate begins Oct. 11 with one game -- Coastal Carolina at Presbyterian College, and the seven-week League season concludes Saturday, Nov. 22 with two contests -- including Liberty at Coastal Carolina in a match-up of this past season’s co-champions. It will be the first time the Flames and Chanticleers will meet in the regular-season finale. Monmouth will play its first Big South game on Oct. 25 at PC, while Charleston Southern will open Big South play at home for the first time since 2008 when the Buccaneers host the Blue Hose on Oct. 18. Gardner-Webb’s League season starts and ends away from home, as the Runnin’ Bulldogs will open at Liberty on Oct. 25 and finish at Monmouth on Nov. 22. All games not part of the Big South’s ESPN3 package will be available for free on the Big South Network.
In 2015, associate member Kennesaw State bumps the League’s football membership back to seven, allowing each team to play three home and road Big South games. The first Conference weekend is set for Oct. 10, and the Owls will play their first League tilt at home the following week on Oct. 17 -- the first of six consecutive Big South games. Other 2015 games of note include Monmouth at KSU on Oct. 31, and Coastal Carolina at Liberty in the regular-season finale on Nov. 21 in Lynchburg.
The Big South is coming off its most successful season to date, as the League went 18-10 against non-Conference FCS opponents, defeated five nationally-ranked foes for the first time, and had three members ranked in the Top 25 national polls during the season. In addition, Coastal Carolina became the first Big South program to reach the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs.
