accurate but also misleading.
UNH beat Maine, another CAA team. take that win away from UNH and the loss away from Maine and the CAA is 5-1.

Misleading??? That's the price you pay for getting more than two conference teams to the playoffs I suppose.

Aside from the two conferences that have a team in the title game (CAA & MVC) the OVC will be the only conf. to finish with a winning playoff record and that's with one of our 3 teams being knocked out by one of the other 2.

Furman might be 1-1 but right now, our loss isn't looking nearly as bad as it did three weeks ago:o

This shows the actual conference strength in the FCS even with the in-conference games during the playoffs. Further proof of the MVFC, CAA, & OVC's leadership while the Big Sky showed that 1 team doesn't make a conference and the SoCon is rebuilding.

You have 2 teams from the MVFC, what strength is that?? Actual conference strength should be number of teams from each conference.

So you trust the selection committee? MVFC is the only conference with 7 teams under the ranking of 30.00 GPI.

Jorcon:
Actually the selection committee is starting to use their SRS ratings to determine playoff teams, comparable to the RPI ratings they use to determine teams for the NCAA hoops tournament. This is the first year they have used it but it will be the norm going forward.

........and they have YSU ahead of UNH and Samford. What I have seen in the playoffs, NDSU played #7, 29 and 33. No disrespect to them, but all 3 would be flirting with a .500 MVFC record, which is how tough the MVFC is.

You have to change your criteria to keep both YSU and UNI out of the playoffs. YSU had a higher SRS rankings but didn't have any big outta of conference wins. UNI had a higher sagarin ranking and very good outta conference wins but struggled within the conference. The committee has made it very clear, if you play in the valley you better not leave even a sliver of a doubt or were leaving you out.

Completely agree on the sliver of doubt statement. Come playoff selection time, it's pretty much BS for MVFC teams. They will be the FIRST to be excluded.

This. The criteria changes every year with the mvfc.
Years ago it was "the bottom of the conference is too bad, you need to strengthen your league". That happened and it was "you dint have any teams that separated themselves...clearly no teams are that good" and now it's "you have one great team so the rest is no good"
The MVFC can't "win"

As the years go on, I tend to agree with this.
Southern Utah was a joke. So was a 2nd team from the MEAC. Even a 3rd OVC team.
There are Bison fans that want to play 2 FBS games next year....NO way IMO. Looks like a MV team needs 8-9 wins to make it in if they are not the Auto....probably 9.
But your right clenz....Dannen had to leave the room if UNI was being discussed. More than likely the ADs from SCSU-Morehead State-Fordham-CCSU-Tenn State-Liberty all gave a big thumbs down to UNI getting a playoff spot.
Then look at a team like Lafayette getting steam rolled in their game....xcoffeex...which wasn't a surprise.
It is what it is.....tell our ADs to schedule 3 OOC cupcakes to get the wins.....

Doesn't matter, that's what YSU did. If the committee can find a slice of justification for snubbing the valley, they will.

That was why YSU was left out.
Funny thing is, with explanations on YSU and UNI the committee admitted to making **** up without saying that.
They said a school was left out because a weak OOC hurt them and they needed to show more ooc because that was just as/more important that conference play. important...then they said another team was left out because of their conference record.
Guess who they were talking about.

JSU's win vs. McNeese St surprised me and proved they deserved to be in the field. Other than that the OVC beat Butler, Samford, and Tenn St. The OVC is looking better this year than in the past. But how do you look at field of teams were the number 1 conference gets 2 teams in and the OVC gets 3, the big sky gets 4, the southland gets 3, and even the MEAC can get 2 teams in the field and say that looks about right. Three of the last four out came from the valley. There are a lot of playoffs teams that couldn't go .500 in the valley this year.

There were a lot of first round teams that would have fallen to TSU - and a number of second round teams. TSU got eliminated by EIU... too bad all 3 OVC teams were not in different brackets - the OVC might have had 3 teams in the quarterfinals...heck, TSU might have made semifinals in NH's bracket.

The rest of the MVFC (6 teams in 4 years) are 5-6. But if NDSU is not the MVFC champ, some one else would have probably been in and won a few games. Pretty even across the board for the power conferences.

fair enough, I would like to see a MVFC vs CAA FCS football match up similar to what the ACC and Big 10 do in basketball, lets settle this on the field....

This is a great idea...not just for the CAA and MVFC...but why can't conferences across the country get in on this? BSC vs. Southland, OVC vs. Patriot, etc...? Every team just leaves one date open on their schedule and let the conferences set up the contests. Rotate home teams every year so no one gets shorted...I like it!

That sounds simple enough but the committee is not going to let three MVFC teams in at-large IMO---and if we beat YSU that eliminates them and if UNI beats SIU that's probably it for us too even if we beat YSU--look, if the Committee is just *********ing about using SOS could they just frickin' tell us so we can schedule A&M Tech and Mary Mother of God Girls College instead of EIU and U of I?

If it was about SOS, and apparently it was because it was said YSU didn't get in because if SOS, UNI should have been in.
UNI was held out because of conference record, but YSu met that criteria.
SIU had both but didn't have 7 d1 winsso that likely kept them out....but not SHSU.
Really it doesn't matter what MVFC does there will be a "justification" to keep them out...even if that justification flies in the face of a different justification to keep another MVFC team out
