View Full Version : NCAA highlight policy

Help me understand this rule the NCAA has about not allowing any highlights of the games. The local reporters for NDSU can't put highlights of the playoff games on their blog. During the season ESPN will have highlights of games airing from FS1 and vice versa, so I don't think it's a contract issue with airing rights. Also NDSU has their own camera team that captures the game and they still can't post playoff highlights, so it's not like it's taking any footage away from ESPN. I don't understand it or the rule. I tried looking for it on the NCAA website, but we all know how successful that usually goes.

I would think ESPN owns all video rights..
Clips from FS1 games being shown on ESPN would probably involve rights releases/purchasing highlight rights.

ESPN owns the rights to the playoff games. NCAA sold out to them.

And the rule is no highlights hosted online. They're allowed during the actual airing of news shows/coach's shows/etc, but you can not put the highlights online at all.
