Quality of ESPN3 FCS Broadcasts

Did anyone have a good experience with trying to watch the games on ESPN3? I havent watched one this year at any level where it wasn't regularly freezing and choppy. I have an average laptop and get about 9 megs download?

any suggestions?

I've been watching the last few weeks at a bar in KC. Prior to that I was watching them on my XBOX. I thought they were pretty good.

Was at the game last week, but set a Roku up for family that didn't attend the game. They thought picture quality was pretty good.

I watched ESPN3 during the first round of the playoffs. The quality was good for me even when I had four games going on the split screen.

Probably a combination of the laptop and your internet connection. 9 mbps isn't particularly fast, and if the laptop is weak too that would explain it. I have had no issues watching on a tablet.

I didn't have many problems watching it on Xbox, the quality was similar to other ESPN3 broadcasts I have watched (ok but not as good as TV) and while watching Fordham/SHU it kept switching me to the CCU game, but overall it worked fairly well.

local ISP does not carry ESPN3, even though it is one of the selections in the pulldown on the ESPN3 web site.....

Thanks guys, I think its on my end. I tried a few games this year, i dont have as good of internet as last year so maybe ill bump that up.

I watched on a laptop hooked up to my tv over wifi. 4 games on split screen. The transition from game-to-game was a little choppy but once it was up and running I was fine.

I have 30 Mbps, still sometimes the quality is choppy. You need a fast computer and internet. Or a roku or Xbox. If you have DSL you should have more consistent results.

I have 100 Mbps and the picture is great 99% of the time. The only lower quality feeds I've seen are when I'm flipping around before the Bison game to make sure I'm logged in OK and that the laptop can recognize the TV through the HDMI connection.

My favorite aspect of these ESPN3 broadcasts would be the C-squad announcers! During the Montana game I heard one guy say after they announced the New Hampshire win something along the lines of, "I think they will be able to match up with Towson well next."

I watched last weekend's games on the Roku WatchESPN channel (via ethernet) and the quality was as good as TV.

Didn't really have trouble on mine either. Laptop is average and a few years old, maybe every 30 minutes it would freeze for 10 seconds, but that's not bad.

Once i turn off the 20 streaming pornos, everything looks pretty good.

Seriously though, i've only watched on my laptop and it's spotty at best. It just hangs regularly and then I have to reload the stream and it is back to HD. Will try Roku this weekend now that I know it is an option.

DSL could be worse actually. DSL is highly affected by the quality of telephone wiring in your service area. Most companies didn't come in and improve the wiring infrastructure when they offered DSL. I had to look it up but I'm actually surprised to see DSL offerings up to 100Mb these days, that's pretty impressive.

A DOCSIS 3.0 modem on cable internet should give you the best performance. Since it can bond to multiple connections at once dynamically, it can provide more stable speeds for times of high need. As your bandwidth needs changes, your modem connects/disconnects as required. This is a vast improvement over the single static connection provided to each user in the past. Since switching to DOCSIS 3 I've seen my connection stay right at the limit of what I'm paying for.

Does anybody know how long after the broadcasts that they put the video highlights up? I would like to watch the highlights to the UNH/Maine game again without having to re-watch the whole thing. Usually they put the highlights under the recap section, but it hasnt been posted yet unfortunately.

I'm still rocking a DOCSIS 2.0 modem I bought about 6 years ago (Motorola Surfboard 5101). Those $8/month rental charges add up!

Might have to finally bite the bullet and buy a 3.0.

I have cable high speed internet and my streams have been good. The only issues are between my Mac and the modem which is an issue outside streaming.
One thing I have learned by watching and streaming pool matches is too keep your cache clean. During pool streams they always remind you to do it. Maybe try that at the end of every quarter.
You can also right click on the screen and check the box that says hardware accelerator (something accelerator don't remember the correct words) and that is not for a MAC

They usually cut the highlights right after they happen while the game is live, and post them immediately ... for some reason, they don't edit highlights for every game. If they weren't available right away, or immediately following the game, chances are they won't be.

9 should be more than enough. I never have a hiccup using the movie streaming services with 4.5 DSL.

I have 56 Mbps and watch 5-7 various webstreams a week and most are good quality. However, I have never been able to get ESPN3 to give more than 1 bar on the quality meter and looks like the games are always played in pouring rain. No idea why, but it's the only webcast that doesn't work very well.

I tried watching with a new smart tv and it was choppy and would lose connection all the time. I thought it would be great for that as I watched a high school game from the week before and it worked great but espn3 stunk. Really disappointed.
