Well another ass kicking tonight to bring the losing streak to 19 games, Clemson beat us 63-9. Something needs to be done otherwise please drop the program and focus on mens and womens bball.

I think given a few years Golden can make them fairly respectable...not good...but maybe respectable...of course no one's been able to do that in a long time...

How will they be respectable? You can't sell a program THAT bad

Temple's players and coaches did donate their per diem money to charity for the second time this year. Classy program at least.

They're not bad people, just a bad collection of football players.

Why don't they just drop to I-AA, they could still stay DI in everything else

Agreed. I give them one more shot, one more chance to turn it around, with Golden. Three more years, then if no change, WHAM! BAM!! Buh bye football program.

I've seen Akron turn it around....
N'western (who had an even tougher sell, being the whipping boy of the Big-10)
Oregon St. (The poster-boys for "bad program" in the Pac-10 for 30 years)
Rutgers
San Jose St. in only Dick Tomey's 2nd year
etc...
Temple's current level of suckitude is directly related to their "limbo" status after getting booted from the Big East, and before signing on the the MAC. They had consecutive 4-7 seasons in '00 and '01 and were improving their play, but the conference's decision pulled the floor from under them. Bobby Wallace was a lame-duck and nobody but 2nd rate JC transfers were willing to play for him. I say give Golden 5 years to make them competitive. It's not impossible. If, after 5, it doesn't happen, it never will and pull the plug.

Yes, but also, demographically, they don't fit in with I-AA.
I don't blame them for not doing it. The drop to I-AA would be unfairly perceived as a downgrade of the entire university's athletic program. Dropping football would be worse, short term.
-C'mon I-AA fans, get upset at those comments... you know you want to! :D
They have over 24,000 undergrads. Is there a I-AA program out there that can even approach that number?

Maybe I should start an "Abolish Temple Football" thread like our a-clown friends on the PL voy board. :rotateh: xlolx

That's exactly it though...where would they play...we've been through this before...they play most sports I believe in the A-10...so would they drop to the A-10/CAA? would that conference want them (my guess is no)...I guess they'd have a rivalry with Delaware...but W&M/Temple matchups would just seem strange...

I guess they'd have a rivalry with Delaware.....
The UD/Temple game was easily the biggest game on the schedule every year for the Hens and they played pretty much every year from 1950 until Temple backed out of the series in 1985 - it was a great series and it was very heated. Games in Philly at the Vet drew a good amount of Hens fans as well. The Temple series even made the series against nova look tame in comparison. Temple decided that their drive towards respectability was being delayed by playing and often losing the lowly Delaware so they ended the series. I would love to see Temple back on the schedule but I don't see any signs that they're willing to back away from their attempt to be a credible DIA football school, despite the obvious evidence that they won't ever be.

Temple won't drop to 1-AA. First, they are already going to the MAC which will be more their speed. Second, they have no place to play 1-AA football, they have no stadium & they're not going to play 1-AA in the Linc.

I wish they would stop playing in the Linc! Messing up the field, making it look like crap already, and it's only October!! They should play at a HS stadium. Like Villanova's.

Couldn't do that - nova even keeps UD's band off the field on games up there - apparently they don't want to ruin the turf (which is actually artificial turf by the way - you just know how hard it is to maintain that stuff!!)xidiotx
