In the four coldest games ever played at WA/GRIZ, UM is 2-2. If your team is better, you can win. That said, of course home field is an advantage, as I clearly stated in my original post.

I really like coach Moglia and Taliferro has a great attitude about it all so I fully expect all those fella's to "Be a man" and give it everything they have just like our guys will. It's gonna be great.

All kidding and smack talk aside. I would love nothing more to be at the game tomorrow. I love seeing college games in a great atmosphere and I think WGS would be just that. As far as the game goes I think the Griz fans are overconfident going into this one and I hope, but doubt, it rubbed off on your team. Coastal doesn't have the best D in the world, but it defends well against the pass with Quinn Backus and Richie Sampson being stand-outs in getting behind the o-line and stirring things up. On offense we're well balanced and use the run to establish ourselves which should bode well for tomorrow's conditions. I'm looking for a good close game in the first half, and an even better 2nd half.

Yeah, but game time temp will be 50+ degrees colder, and Wa-Griz tends to send a shock to the system of teams that aren't used to it.

It has been a while back (like 20 years ago) but when I lived in Great Falls MT we had like a 3 week stretch of -25 to -30 weather. It got up to zero & actually felt warm at that point, but I'm certain zero ain't gonna feel good today. I will have my 8 layers on though. Go Griz!

All things being equal, CCU has been the better team all season. The biggest advantage UM had in this game was being at home and the weather. Anyone who watched the 'Griz all year would tell you they have warts. That's why they struggled in many of their games....

Depth of a particular conference means very little imo. It's all about your ability to produce top-shelf teams. That's why I just laugh when people say they're in the Big South or OVC so they can't be any good. The logic doesn't make any sense.

There's no doubt that their seed was based on money...

Wouldn't it be just as good or better to get a money team in the first round, during a Thanksgiving weekend that gets very lackluster attendance, though?

Or are you thinking they did it to try and get the NDSU-UM game? Oh well, committee's decision came back to bite them in either case. Looked like relatively low attendance today because of the cold.

This is true to degree ^
But it's becoming more and more obvious that the firing of coach Robin Pflugrad by University of Montana president Royce Engstrom was a HUGE HUGE mistake
Things are so bad They had to re-up 71 year old Mick Delaney's contract because nobody would touch the job with Engstrom at the top

The coaching community is small and very communicative
And once a quality guy like Pflugrad got fired for essentially nothing the program gets a kind of coaching community black list
Montana couldn't even get so much as a sniff from the quality guys out there

This will have a downward spiraling trend for Montana (and most FCS coaches and AD's know it)

NCAA violations and a star QB accused of rape is nothing?

Please reply with what actually came of both issues...

NCAA violations included :
Arrests of cornerback Trumaine Johnson (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14989/trumaine-johnson) (who now plays for the St. Louis Rams (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/stl/st-louis-rams)) and backup quarterback Gerald Kemp
Police trying to break up a loud party - Officers used stun guns on the players...
The NCAA found that an attorney provided each with about $1,500 in free legal representation / violations were dropped

The rape accusation amounted to nothing...

Both the Athletic Director and the Head Coach were fired prior to any investigation
That kind of itchy trigger finger makes it VERY hard to hire a quality guy to replace those two

The coaching community is small and talks
So Montana is stuck re-upping a 71 year old dude and the program will continue to gradually slide

This will have a downward spiraling trend for Montana (and most FCS coaches and AD's know it)

Oh, come on. xrolleyesx

Pflugrad & O'Day's handling of the tazer incident aftermath was just awful, and they probably should have been fired for that alone. I'm not defending Engstrom, because he may not have fired them for the right reason(s) given the timing and his handling of the whole situation was a PR disaster at the very least, but Pflugrad & O'Day were totally negligent.

Pflugrad's a really good OC and a good recruiter, but he really shouldn't be in charge of a team IMO. He's come off as comically naive and self-absorbed in every interview he's done since the firing. And that Missoulian interview a few weeks ago where he all but threw his (then) current team under the bus was just bizarre. If he gets the NoDak job, I wonder if he'll spend his entire tenure whining about how he's not in Missoula anymore.

I'd rather have Delaney as the head coach than Pflugrad. xtwocentsx

Can't remember - what's the record of southern teams losing in Missoula?

I believe Furman is the only South Carolina team ever to lose to the Griz. :)

Congrats Beach Chickens.

If mediocrity is the goal... then yeah probably

:D

I noticed you're not denying my claim that the program will decline in coming years under Delaney

Well, I don't know how many years that'll be (especially if Delaney keeps diving into ice water in the winter ;)), but no… I don't think it'll decline. The Griz did a really good job recruiting this past offseason with a low amount of scholarships (landed a bunch of supposedly talented guys with preferred walk-on/delayed scholarship offers).

10-3 this year and not a lot of seniors graduating.

They'll be competitive next year - but not because of Delaney
But when Johnson Graduates... win about as many as they did with Delany and whoever

Yeah, because Jordan Johnson is the only good Griz QB ever. xrolleyesx

Are you trying to turn this board into eGriz? ;)

I can see Coastal jumping up big on the Griz only to blow it late

I had the vision it just got a little blurry towards the end..... sorry Griz fans, not many predicted this one.

Judging by the empty stands during that replay fiasco in the middle of the 3rd quarter it was too cold for Montana fans, but not too cold for CCU.

HH, empty stands in the 3rd is traditional. Everyone leaves the stadium for more tailgating. Only about 17, 000 in attendence though.

Congrats to Coastal!

In the four coldest games ever played at WA/GRIZ, UM is 2-2. If your team is better, you can win. That said, of course home field is an advantage, as I clearly stated in my original post.

Congrats to CCU. Make that 2-3. And to all those who thought noise, cold and a stadium added up to a cinch Griz win, I hate to say I told you so, but, well, . . . you know. :)

I guess your 'aura' must have gotten frozen, huh? :)

I was impressed. I thought Coastal Carolina looked very good today. They were well prepared and executed well. This should be a good game next week in Missoula.
Although CC has played in front of larger crowds, they'll be in trouble at Montana, as I will be present and my aura will be too much for Coastal to handle.
Not smack talk there. Just fair warning to the singing beach chickens.

Beachdad, Unfortunately I find the extreme cold did apparently reduce the effectiveness of my aura. It must have something to do with the increased density of artic air.
That combined with a great effort by Coastal Carolina's offense resulted in this sad outcome. My hat is off (now that I'm safely inside) to your entire squad and staff.
Good luck in Fargo! Though I have to warn you, you're not done hearing about "cold & loud". Typically Fargo is far colder than Missoula, and they say their dome is loud.
