This isnt just about the FCS games on ESPN3 in areas where it isn't conducive, It's rural and smaller America finally standing up to Corporate America and saying enough is enough. We are tired of being pushed around by corporations. It's not fair to us, its not fair to the schools making up the FCS who dont get to see the games on TV, its not fair to America who is missing out on some good, quality college football.

How about having someone bid for the FCS playoffs that cares about the FCS like NBC Sports Network? That would mean that the FCS playoffs would probably get at least two, probably three games televised on the first three weekends and all four semi-final games. They already have the CAA and Ivy league contracts. Is it that ESPN just bids on the whole contract of everything outside the D1 MBB and FBS Championships.

I am new to the FCS world, but would it make sense to move the first round to the Friday after Thanksgiving? It seems to me that there good football games on Turkey Day and the weekend, but not so many today?

November 29th, 2013, 10:18 AM
I would not want to see playoff games on Friday. for one thing, you don't even know who or where you are playing until Sunday morning. So you are already limited in your ability to plan for the game. Plus, players deserve to be at their peak for a playoff game,so don't shorten their time between games by a day.
Also, many teams would be competing with high school playoffs on Friday, which would hurt attendance along with Black Friday shopping or traveling with family.
There are also a handful of college games on Friday.

Ok so a little update. I called and talked to them about this and the promise I'd be able to access ESPN3 with their internet package. Not sure why they have to make this so difficult but I'm sure it somewhere comes down to money but here it is. I have to go to Midco's website not espn's to have access. Login with my midco information and then I'll be able to watch it. See the screen shot of Midco. Is this how the rest of you guys do this? What a pain in the arse they are. What about the rest of the ESPN3 programming? I guess I'll find out.

The problem is that today there will be more people at the Alabama vs. Auburn game than there are posters on AGS from all FCS schools combined. ESPN is catering to the majority and until FCS schools average 50-80k each week and bring the big TV ratings it's always going to be in the background.
I personally wish no small school games were on TV. There are too many draftniks and people who claim to be scouts that don't actually go on the road and work with the NFL who hype the players they see on TV and often times they aren't even that good. If nothing was on TV it would make my job much easier! lol
Hopefully though they do put all the playoff games on TV. I don't see why none of the games this weekend are on anything but ESPN3. They should all be on some channel.

The problem is ESPN is retaining the rights to exclusively broadcast the games on ESPN 3 only. They will not allow local television stations to PAY THEM to broadcast their feed. Thats all the people want. They allowed it in 2010 but starting in 2011 they did not. People are not desiring all the games to be on the regular ESPN stations. Watching a couple of the games today and how horrible the crowds were I dont blame them. The fans complaining would like the ESPN coverage to be able to be carried by the local stations who want to pay for and carry the games on their station like it used to be largely because they do not have access to ESPN3 and cant watch it. Every NDSU game was carried by all ND NBC stations home and away including the spring game the past 2 years with 75% of the 2011 season on as well. ESPN is refusing money from these stations so they remain exclusively on ESPN3. That is the issue many have. Feel free to formulate your opinion from that.

ESPN has the broadcast rights until 2020. The NCAA has no issue with what they're doing, and there's really no point for ESPN to work harder to do anything for a very small segment of the viewership out there. FCS has no clout and ratings that barely register for the games that are actually aired on the mothership/ESPN2 (with a few exceptions).
Might as well get used to it. I think the FCS playoffs will be even further out of mind now with the marketing juggernaut coming for the College Football Playoff starting next year.

Marketing ploy by ESPN to try and pressure more providers (cable, sat, internet) into paying for ESPN3. ESPN makes more money through that than they would through selling broadcast rights of individual games to local stations.

If this is true... which remains to be seen with some internet companies limiting monthly usage, why don't they make it available to everyone? If your internet provider doesn't give it to you for free, then there should be an option to buy the ESPN3 services. IMO

ESPN is the most expensive part of any cable package. They stand to make alot more money charging ISPs straight up for all customers, rather than a subscription service. When I worked for Cable one I was told if they dropped just the ESPN channels, every single persons monthly cable bill would drop more than $20. That means people who have no interest in ESPN are sharing the costs of the network, without them ESPN would be a subscription worse than NFL ticket. No one wants to pay $200 a month.
For comparison, Comedy Central is 18 cents a month and the weather channel is $0.13.
