We have to wait for the bye week for a game but in the meantime here's a little something from our Coach and Players. Football is great and all but life has so many more challenges for some folks it puts into perspective all our banter and bickering during the season or year round that there are really more important battles going on each and every day. Ryan Smith's smile says it all.

This is something to be proud of. Football players doing something right. Maybe the griz should try it and you could post something like it. In the meantime it's to bad you can't see the good in this rather than just bitch about something.

As far as the "Any Given Bison" comment here's the current AGS thread page. Doesn't look to me like it's flooded with Bison threads. You better get something else to bitch about this one doesn't have legs.

I think its nice, and actually they do it every year. The players and coaches are very involved in the community, as I have posted in the past. Whether it be a high school event or the children's hospital. It is indeed a proud feeling...

I can see how this thread would come off as hey look at me or us, fact is a lot of universities and teams do charitable work and they should. I personally love seeing and reading about this kind of stuff so I don't mind it but I can see how it would annoy some.

What a cynical attitude. The whole purpose of this was to give credit where credit is due. 99% of the time when players/teams make the news for anything off the field it seems like it's for negative news. So when good things happen to people who are in a less fortunate position and facing much more serious problems than what we face daily I think it deserves some recognition. Besides the CJ's you refer to or the original negative comment by the griz fan in here are the only thing negative about this entire thread. Are you happy now? You and the griz fan posting negative comments in this thread are the only one's making an issue of this and being jerks about it. Congrats.

Exactly.....the Holy Cross team (and many others in the FCS) could put stuff like this up on a daily or weekly basis.

It's very laudable what NDSU has done here but it does smack of "piling on" i.e. "Look at us, not only are we great on the field, we're great off it as well."

I find it amazing that it took an NDSU fan to post an article about the good work the SHSU football team is doing for others. Sad...

Maybe instead of focusing on the "colors" of the players performing the good deeds, you should focus on the goodness being done. This doesn't seem to be as hard as some of you want to make it.

The intent of my post was to point out how frivolous it was to rag on NDSU fans for this thread. I completely agree with you.

I wish people could temporarily put aside their team loyalty in threads like this. Once the cleats are hung up and football is nothing but a distant memory, the character of these men is what will carry them throughout the rest of their lives, no matter what colors they wore in college.

I suppose that stance is unpopular with some people around here, but I'll gladly take the heat for that.

I am well aware of how NDSU is the subject of at least twice as many threads as any other team. It's called a cycle. Right now, NDSU is at the top of the FCS. Their fans are proud, there are more of them, and thus there are more threads, and more discussion about NDSU. But it can't last forever- no team is ever on top of the world forever. One day, NDSU will lose the championship game, lose in the first round, or heck- even miss the playoffs. Some other team will experience a wave of success and their fans will "take over" the board as the NDSU discussion begins to slowly taper off. And then we're back to square one, but with another team's fans seemingly doing nothing but talking about their own team, flooding AGS with threads about how great they are and how amazing their team is.

There's nothing you can do about it except ignore the threads you don't want to read and start threads about things you want to talk about.

And if you really want to call me a Bison fan, fine. I don't feel the need to prove to you my loyalty to the Bearkats. I don't think it's a sin to participate in discussions about other teams. One day, I hope SHSU can win two or more straight championships. If that day comes, how are the fans of other teams on AGS going to treat us? We reap what we sow, and what we're sowing right now are a lot of rotten seeds. You might tell me you don't care, and I respect that. But there's a reason why I act the way I do, and it's not because I have wavering feelings about who I support. I take great pride in telling people I go to SHSU, and that's why I respect the pride that other people have in their own schools.

Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving!

For people that are asshats like TX I will respond in kind.
When some one brings forth a well thought out post as yours I will respond in the same vein. Yes there are asshats in every fan base. But one must remember that for the most part fans posting on a message board dont represent the fan base as a whole and are a very very small percentage of a fan base. With that thought in mind ask yourself how many Bison fans post on this venue? How many Bison fans attend a home football game? So we have what maybe 10-15 Bison fans posting here and we have 19,000 in the stadium not to mention 7,000 that were turned away for season tickets and thousands of fans all over the USA. The asshats are a miniscule in that regard. If you judge a whole fan base because of a fans posting and cant separate your feelings for their team because of a a few asshats then I would say you take this way too seriously. But thank you for your thoughts on this matter.

It is AGS, you are very correct. Without content like this, a message board about FCS football would be pretty drab, if not dead. It's refreshing to see people doing nice things in the world. I'm not sure how they do it down in Texas, but I sure as ***** don't see stuff like this coming from your team. This thread has gotten out of control. Good deeds by Bison are cool to see. Fargo is a cool town, NDSU folks are very hospitable, and they have built a program most of us would like to have. If any of our schools were as dominant, there would be attention grabbers as well. Good on ya Bison.

Exactly.

Wow people. I guess count me in as confused when people complain about content being provided to a message board....kinda wish more fans from other fan bases would do the same, so I could get more background into each program. With this time of year, stories like these are great to see and are much more upbeat than some alternatives out there.

Notice this isn't a top thread at Bisonville. Does it even have it's own thread there to discuss it?

I think it was already posted and fell to the next few pages...unlike this one for some reason.

I'm glad to see the day didn't go by without another North Dakota State thread here at "Any Given Bison". xsmhx

Wow! Had no idea my comment would cause such a stir. First of all, I apologize to anyone who thought I was objecting to, or belittling, the content of BisonBacker's clip.
It is always cool when athletes give to their communities and good causes. Again, the content was not the object of my mocking comment, it was its inclusion here on AGS.

As to the observation that "You don't have to click on it if you don't want to". That is reasonable. If the Thread were titled "Very proud of our NDSU..." I probably wouldn't have clicked on it. Yet the title as it is piqued my curiosity and I clicked on it. Bison fans should be proud of their team and their school. You certainly can be proud of their good deeds. I was simply commenting on the fact most of us don't really care to see yet another generic love song thread dedicated to the Bison. That is as opposed to football related material about your team's play or games. eGriz has an entire thread featuring this sort of thing which various Grizzlies participated in. The NDSU fans should have the same, and this would be most appropriate when posted there. Stay proud but keep in mind we are not all here chomping at the bit for every morsel of Fargo news. So once again, sorry to those I offended with the original post, or those I am offending with this response. Good luck to the Bison.
