STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The courting devolved into a canning.
Wagner College's head coach for women's basketball fired an assistant she'd formerly prized after the young woman was diagnosed as bipolar, according to a federal lawsuit.
A guard out of George Washington University, Lisa Steele was hired by Coach Lisa Cermignano -- who herself starred at GW -- in 2012 and made a strong first impression on the bench, according to the suit.
"I'm blessed to have Lisa on staff," Ms. Cermignano commented on Wagner's website last year. "She's a relentless worker, she wants to learn, and I think she has the ability to be really, really good. I'm lucky because she had a lot of other opportunities and she chose to make this move."
But Ms. Steele said her diagnosis first of ADHD and then bipolar disorder, made later last year, rendered her persona non grata....
