I kinda liked Grace Hall at Lehigh, too.
The Fieldhouse at St. Joseph's is another old-school facility, though it is vastly upgraded now.
Grace is still there, but now just for wrestling and volleyball. Complete interior renovation. Very little semblance to the old arena, but voted by USA Today several years ago as one of the top ten 'venerable' old athletic arenas still being used in the country.

One of the greatest photos showing how Lehigh's wrestling tradition grew over the decades. Thanks for that photo Bogie, it is a classic. "Back then" you are seeing about 3,500 crammed into Grace. Now, due to fire regulations and renovations, maximum capacity with SRO is about 2200. I think this pic is from the early 1960's...note the number of attendees wearing coat ties!

Alumni Hall, a classic mid century venue. There I saw Bill Bradley sink a jumper at the buzzer to take a Prnceton game to overtime in one of the best games ever played at Alumni. the place was rocking.
As I recall, he shot, missed, got his own rebound, missed again, got the rebound again, and finally put it in. Are you the guy who was blocking my view for much of the game?

The loss of Bialkowski was huge. Luckily we caught Holy Cross and Colgate while weakend. While I know others may disagree, with BB we'd have been in the playoffs. Our QB play in the big one was poor, but that's the game of football. You are as good as you are at the time and in late September, we were very good. Hopefully, our QB's will be 'up to speed' next year when we visit on September 13.

I was thinking about Towson having to go out and play on that red turf at Eastern Washington. That would be quite a distraction, I think.
But here's my thought - let's say I won the lottery and I gave $50 Million to Georgetown to finish Multi-Sport Field. But as part of the gift, I insisted that they do the turf in gay pride stripes with a huge picture of Barney Frank in the middle. Do you think they'd take the money?

It would just get buried under discussions of Obamacare, the Mack Brown "resignation," MLB steroid use, Shemp vs. Curly Joe - who was the better 3rd stooge?, your favorite Tea Party congressman, favorite Joe Biden gaffes, Donald Trump the intellectual, and other hot topics of the moment. In other words, it's much better right here.
Obamacare is a noble goal that is padded with excess and has been horribly executed; Brown can afford to resign with the package he gets; Depends on the steroid; Shemp by a long shot; Paul Ryan; "I promise you, the president has a big stick. I promise you;" Trump has the intellectual capacity of an earthworm.

Army and Navy will be FBS. Period. And Army and Navy football are not best suited for the PL because of their institutional mission and the use of football in particular in that mission.

I agree. But that institutional mission is not necessarily inconsistent with playing one or two PL or Ivy games each season. Even if playing more than one PL game technically would not count for bowl eligibility, one of the Academies is going to play in the Armed Forces Bowl automatically regardless of "eligibility." For 25 years the PL has provided an accommodating, properly competitive home for all other sports at Army and Navy. The agreement to start scheduling PL football once again (without dropping to FCS) appears to recognize that.
(Now we just have to get them to put the PL logo on their fields and uniforms!)

I get the "national mission" of Army/Navy vis a vis football....I just think it's becoming more and more impossible logistically (to recruit, schedule etc) to have a football team at the national FBS level that they can compete in moving forward.
They can continue to schedule a lot of bottom-tier FBS schools but I think that that is a last-ditch effort to remain FBS and ultimately not worth the trouble. We'll see how it plays out over the next decade.

An elemetn at Lafayette, Lehigh, and Colgate could hardly care anymore if Georgetown is in the PL. These schools have a much in common with Georgetown as South Carolina does with Vanderbilt and like South Carolina, they see it as a win, a nice road trip every other year, and little else. Army is not joining the PL because no three-star wants to walk the halls of the Pentagon and hear it from an Air Force general that the USAFA can play in the big leagues while Army can't, or that Navy is playing at Notre Dame while Army gets to play at Bucknell.
CBS would certainly not provide the three hours of promotion each December for a couple of I-AA teams, and the days of sold out crowds in Philadelphia would wither away. Notwithstanding, USMA and USNA need a national schedule to recruit nationally.

Again, just playing devil's advocate, but Air Force is not an "upper quadrant" level football program right now, nor is Annapolis.
Navy, to their credit, has hung onto the periphery of FBS football but their overall schedule has had a lot of so-so BCS programs (Indiana, Duke, Wake etc) and a lot of FBS bottom feeders on its docket over the last few years.
Army is just screwed in general....near impossible to recruit to, a losing tradition of about 40+ years now etc etc
The future isn't bright for the service academies and FBS football imo. Now, if there is some sort of upheaval in realignment I might change my thinking.

No question that Army, Navy should remain in FBS, mainly due to tradition. Football is THE sport of this country and the military academies should be playing the sport at the highest level. On that note, they should also be trying to win. If Army was truly committed to winning, they would find a way. You can turn losing programs around, and Army actually has a tradition, but they are going to have to re-adjust their program. Why would you actually have to 'work' while playing football when you can instead be a primma donna god at a school like Oklahoma or Tennessee?
Army should be playing a Notre Dame like schedule, but instead, they have a Troy State like schedule (when they were independent). It's ridiculous their schedule is filled with the compass Michigan schools and Sun Belt teams. It's a national program...

With Biddle at LB, the defense will be in shutdown mode. I predict that Biddle will cause nine safeties and that Tavani will rush for a TD plus a 2 point try. 26-5 will be the final after dementia sets in and Frank runs into, and kneels down in, the wrong endzone in the middle of the 4th.

Several things wrong with your post. First, it is always better for the wife to NOT be miserable. Second if the Eagles win, the play the 2 seed and I believe that is so there would at least be another week. The Saints would get the #1 seed though
most importantly, how could a LU grad be a Saints fan?

Good points. I think they changed it this year so that they're not reseeded, but I wasn't clear on that after last week's broadcast.
The Saints fan thing is a somewhat long story, but rest assured that my interest dates from the Jim Mora ("We couldn't do diddly poo") era, Dome Patrol, Pat Swilling/Ricky Jackson era. It was tough following the Saints from Lehigh in the pre-Internet era, but SportsCenter helped me through.

His one shortcoming has been his 'bristly' nature when people have daned to question him. Maybe he's outgrown that with the upward mobility. After all he started out as a HC pretty young.

I'm sure there's a Lafayette wine somewhere. I'm trying to keep these as close as possible to the origins of our schools. For example the General Lafayette Ale comes from Germantown, PA where the predecessor to Lafayette College was founded. The Colgate Whisky was sold by Colgate as a medicinal during prohibition.

Just up the block toward Broad Street, between the Hamilton Theater and Crowe's Drug Store. It has been gone for a while, sadly.
Back in the day, on a Friday or Saturday night like tonight (about 0 to -10 degrees), Hamilton specialized in antifreeze consumption at the Jug, Hickey's, Vinny's Randallsville Hotel, the Rathskeller and Tap Room at the Colgate Inn, and a few other watering holes.

How old are you? But I'm guessing true. I attended one of the last games at Connie Mack and saw the Phillies stage a 5 run, bottom of the ninth comeback win over the SF Giants, with Tony Taylor hitting a walk off grand slam. Probably only 3-5,000 in the stands at that time as the Phils entered the bottom of the ninth down 4-0. Saw many games at the Vet, but was never sorry to see it go.

Albany: CH Evans (Albany) and regionally Ommergang (Cooperstown)
Villanova: Manayunk (Philadelphia) and regionally Victory (Downingtown)

Towson: Brewer’s Art (Baltimore)
JMU: Three Brothers Brewing (Harrisonburg)
Richmond: Legend Brewing (Richmond)
W&M: Alewerks Brewing (Williamsburg)
Elon: Red Oak Brewing (Whitsett, NC)
Compiling this list showed me that I have a couple of place to sample in future travels (CH Evans, Three Bros and Red Oak).

Agreed, but with all the state and city names in the CAA school names, it is impossible to match. Just offering up some viable, active craft brewers to go along with the Patriot's historical offerings. Here's the best I can come up with (using Google) for the PL:
Holy Cross: Wormtown, Wachusetts and regionally Harpoon
Colgate: Good Nature and regionally Saranac
Fordham: Bronx Brewery and regionally the much more established Brooklyn Brewing
Lafayette: Weyerbacher and Two Rivers
Lehigh: Bethlehem Brew Works and Allentown Brew Works
Bucknell: Bald Eagle, Old Forge and Selin's Grove
Georgetown: 3 Stars, DC Brau, Chocolate City, Capital City and Atlas
I'll have to consult my craft beer guru Henfan because most of these are unknown to me, many are newbies. At least I have some places to try on any future visits to PL football games. Impressed that Good Nature is within a couple of blocks of the Colgate campus!!

The Schaefer beer song has been indelibly drilled into my brain for most of my life. Most people who have studied music possess a well-rehearsed internal mnemonic for each of the standard tonic intervals in western music. The first notes of the Schaefer beer song always has been my mnemonic for a Descending Minor Third (other people might think of the first notes of "Hey Jude" or "Frosty the Snowman" for example). When I look at a piece of music and I see a minor third drop (e.g. "F" to "D") my brain automatically thinks Schaefer beer.
