Lafayette shut out Maine 17-0 in 1981. Lafayette also beat Lehigh in 1981. Lehigh beat Maine in 1981. However, Lehigh lost to UNH by a single point in 1981 while UHN beat Lafayette by 3 in 1981. Therefore, a "full strength" Lehigh woulda won the national championship in 1981. The record books should be adjusted accordingly.

I knew that year was familiar. It's Lafayette's only 9 win season since the start of WWII xlolx

Sorry for the string of posts, but to compare Hobart to Mount Union is laughable. Mount Union routinely has transfers from FBS and JuCo schools, and could probably be competitive at the FCS level. Hobart? Not in the same stratosphere.

London Fletcher went to Mount Union. Or was it John Carroll? Either way, they both kick the crap out of Heidelberg and Marietta every year.

But a Full Strength Lehigh (hereinafter "FSL") would beat Mount Union.

Just below its dynamic football team, of course, the second-best thing about the State of New Hampshire really has to be its newsworthy-of-late politicians.

Exactly! And Tufts is only about a mile away from Harvard. So Lehigh is better than Harvard.

It's all beginning to make sense now, isn't it?

I have another three degree connection to her. Tufts is in Medford, MA and I grew up in Medford NJ and they are twin cities! My mother and her friends even visited the mayor of Medford MA back in 1979 and brought a South Jersey pine from our town for them to plant in the town square. There you go!

My parents once lived in Medford, NJ. Both my dad an my son spent a semester at Tufts in relation to other studies. The driving distance from Medford, Ore. to Lehigh Acres, Fla. (at full strength) is 3,197½ miles.

Yes! Medford NJ rules and Tim Gushue's Shawnee Renegades are beasts! I wonder why he never left for HC at collegiate level with his record? BTW (and I know SW Florida!) Lehigh is intended to evoke LEE HIGH (for Lee County - hi ground!). Im a Ft Myers Beach bum in March!

Nothing to be sorry about, everyone knows this -- it's common knowledge.

I do question whether you actually played football at UNH like you said you did. Anyone who strapped it up would know that almost any FCS football team outside of the Pioneer League would handily beat a team from the ECAC. I was friendly with plenty of guys who played at the PL / CAA level, and others who played in the NESCAC and ECAC -- simply a totally different level of football.

To help Mega achieve his goals on this post, I will respond to you, Crusader. While you question whether I played at UNH, I question whether you played at HC. You know a little too much about D-III football (I'd assume that's exactly where you played if in fact you did play at all). And the fact that you were "friendly" with plenty of us CAA players, means that you didn't actually "play" with us. I'll inbox you my identity so you never attack my credibility again. Why couldn't you just disagree with me? Why get all personal and say I didn't play?

Given today's realignment mess, Holy Cross would have likely had to drop football if it wanted to keep hoops in the Big East. I see Holy Cross as like Seton Hall in that regard: small but top tier hoops. There is absolutely no way that HC would have been able to field a competitive team into the 1990s.

So Holy Cross keeps its scholarships... plays Big East football and gets smoked by Virginia Tech and Miami? Fitton Field would need to be upgraded? The parking situation? Coaching salaries? The cost would have been extremely prohibitive for a small school like HC.

If you are a HC football fan, then maybe PL membership was a saving grace.

This past Saturday the Massachusetts HS Championship Football games were played at Gillette Stadium and televised by Comcast Sports New England, all six games. I burst out laughing when Andy Gresh said he was getting tweets telling him he was mispronouncing a town's name!!! And it wasn't one of the towns dissected earlier in this thread! The town was Tewksbury and I think Andy was pronouncing it with a "TEW", but people were telling him it was more like TOOKS-bury.

Never stepped foot in Jersey until after graduation (except for the occasional beer run to Phillipsburg*). But there's certain things you can get only at Flemington Department Store. Even the White House gets its custom carpets there, from what I understand. Plus you can get Merrell boots and Woolrich and Patagonia clothing off the rack, try it on, and buy it at a discount and with no shipping. And I pass right by it every time I drive to Pardsville for a game.

Jimmy dogs.

Remember way back when we actually lived in . . . fraternities? Pledges had to make a physical relay chain across the free bridge and deliver Jimmy Dogs up the hill while they were still hot (or at least warm). The worst among us sent his dog back for extra mustard.

I think we'd be arrested for that stuff today.

The cook was off on Sunday so we would go to Key City Diner for their 75 cent Dinner special.

When I was Pledgemaster, the pledges kidnapped me and left me standing in the middle of a field with a dress on. I had managed to stuff my wallet in my underwear and paid a stunned farmer to drive me back to the house. I got back before the pledges and we rounded them up for an olive race. Who knows what that is?

Hate olives to this day;). Not to fond of pumpkins either ( except in pie form). Pledge transgressions required us to carry ever larger pumpkins around campus. Shockingly,as I was quite a large fellow, for some reasons ,unknown to me then,I kept getting larger and larger pumpkins. There is still a picture somewhere in B & W archives of me pulling a little red wagon with a huge pumpkin around campus.

Even though we were at a greater distance, my friends and I would often go Phillipsburging for supplies - usually alcohol at State Line Liquors or Norton's Cork & Bottle. This was due to some of those bizarre PA laws at the time - 6 packs sold at Deli's, cases only at "beer distributors" and hard booze at "state stores". ...one stop shopping was practically impossible and the PA store hours were atrocious!

It continued well into the 1980s at some houses - and I can testify to that fact. Then when they went after DU everything started tumbling downhill. Most of the important lessons in my life came from living in my ol' house. Now they want to pigeon-hole you. If you're foreign, live here. If you're black, live over there. Nice win by the Tigers - RU usually tough at home, less so as Eddie Jordan tries to put the pieces back together from the Rice disaster. I'm old enough to remember watching Valvano and Bobby Lloyd at guard for RU against Princeton both at the old Rutgers Gym ("The Barn") and old Dillon Gym at Princeton. This makes Princeton champions of New Jersey. FDU beat Rutgers AND Seton Hall... and Princeton smoked FDU... and Princeton beat Rutgers... so...

Princeton plays Monmouth occasionally but I don't think so this year... and who cares about St. Peter's.

The lighting at Jadwin "Cage" has changed over the years. There was a time when all the lights were on for all basketball games. That was better.

I still remember Fordham coming over in '72 - the year after Digger Phelps moved to ND - but still a strong team facing a very good Tiger five with Brian Taylor, Reggie Bird, and Ted Manakas. Over 9,000 at Jadwin, standing-room only on a Saturday afternoon. Fordham won in a very close one.
