As long as you can get the ESPNU stream which is available to a handful of providors right now, then yea you can watch. It just streams the whole channel, so you can click on whatever is on ESPNU right now and it'll keep playing what's next like on TV.

When the current program started, the Bottom Line displayed that the top 4 seeds were decided (EIU, EWU, NDSU, SELA). Thought that was a nice touch to go ahead and put that out there.

The NCAA.com mistakenly assigned the seeds, but have since updated. No surprise about 1, but EI, EW, & SELA was 4 if I remember right.

You will have to have a cable provider that allows access to Watch ESPN. Stupid Cable one here in Fargo only allows us to ESPN3 not Watch ESPN.

SELU should be in the playoffs they deserve to be in.. SELU had 6 turnovers on the road in Brookings and nearly won. NOTE: very nice win by SDSU, but I think everyone in Brookings can away very impressed with SELU. UNI would be in but I believe injuries hurt them - they are not the same team as early in the season which is too bad because they looked like a top 5 team. Same with Montana St. they got hurt when the QB was out for three weeks. The NAU/SDSU game is going to be a good game.

Yet, that win is the only thing you hang your resume on. If it's crap, than you really have nothing and no reason to be in the field.

Honestly, I am surprised at the fact you guys are in. I think the committee looked at the HBU and ICU games as counters, your performance in the playoffs over the last two years, and your win against EWU as enough. But I would think NIU's wins look a lot more impressive. In any case, congrats on making the field.

Montana getting a seed over Northern Arizona is a joke.

New Hampshire potentially playing Maine (if they get past Lafayette) is a joke, because they just beat them at home, now have to beat them on the road two weeks later to advance.

Tennessee State will destroy Butler and then will play Eastern Illinois, another conference rematch.

Guess the committee really listened when they saw how NDSU and SDSU folks were so thrilled to be playing each other in the playoffs last year... xrolleyesx

Overall, pretty good choices, though SHSU got a break, and YSU got woffed.

What's the correlation here? Why would a 7-5 team stealing an auto bid mean that SCSU was all of a sudden getting more serious looks than before?

You earned your bid. You won the SoCon and earned the autobid. The theme over the past few years has been more and more regionalization and with SCSU there in your state, and having finished stronger than some of the other bubble teams, they chose the Bulldogs. But I do believe Youngstown should have received the final bid.

I understand the regionalization argument, but South Carolina had three teams in and there were several others in the south east. They could have just as easily sent us to Coastal again.

Of course we earned our bid, but regionalization has nothing to do with the selection of teams - only with the match ups and setting the bracket. Charleston Southern could've just as easily played Furman.

That would be the right thing to do if you ask me but it's not the cheap thing to do so the NCAA doesn't do it. OVC gets more teams than MVFC.

Ridiculous.

That is rather sad. It does make picking the brackets easier. OVC v any power conference team = LOSS.

The fact that three OVC schools, 2 MEAC and SHSU got in only shows that Patty has no pull and that playing cupcake schedules may be the way to go if you want to impress the NCAA FCS playoff committee.

Of course there is an upside to only two getting in, at least SDSU is not headed to NDSU.

First time Fordham poster here...

Obviously disappointed we didn't get a bye but can't make that big of a deal about it. Our resume was not clearly better than McNeese, Montana, N. Arizona, or anyone else in 5-8 range so it is what it is. I will ask the people here where you think a 12-0 Fordham team would have been seeded? a #5 seed? Clearly our team is a different animal with Nebrich playing so a win at Lafayette would have been a clear possibility.

That aside the regionalization of the bracket is a joke. Not only does it mess with seeding but it also sets up too many early inter-conference match-ups.

Northern Arizona got screwed. If they and Fordham are the two best teams to not get seeds then they should each host in round 1 and play a #8, #7, or #6 seed in round 2. Fordham got that deal. N. Arizona didn't. For them to get a SDSU int he first round then have to go to the #3 seed in round 2 is a joke. They should be going to Montana in round 2. If you want to avoid a rematch send them to McNeese.

My statement was not that SELU did not belong, but that the MVFC maybe should have had another team in.

I think UNI is the 3rd best team in the MVFC and they are not the same team right now as early in the season. Injuries hurt them. YSU had lost to UNI, SDSU and NDSU and did not have a marquee win this year and very soft nonconference schedule minus the MSU game. Plus, the OVC carried a winning record over the MVFC. It really too bad about the UNI with the injuries. Again, they had a top 5 team and national championship caliber team this year until the injuries.

Best of luck to the MVFC teams, SDSU and NDSU will be tough outs this year.

That's the point of discussion boards... for discussion. My argument is that YSU was more deserving than SCSU. It appears you have no counter argument other than being a conference homer which I admit is part of the reason I'm pushing YSU but they have quality wins and schedule strength to back up my argument.

WrenFGun
November 24th, 2013, 01:05 PM
There is really no reason that YSU should've gotten in. You cannot go 0-3 in your last four games and expect to make the playoffs, especially since your most significant win (Southern Illinois) isn't even eligible with six DI wins (which is why THEY didn't get in). There's no way Northern Iowa was getting in at 3-5 in their own conference. While I agree that the MVFC got unfairly represented in the field given the quality of their conference, none of those three teams had a good argument to get admitted.

My issues with the selection committee are effectively Sam Houston State (unless there is some lack of clarity on their counting situation, with 6 DI wins they should've been behind Southern Illinois if that was an option), Jacksonville State (they lost to Eastern Illinois AND Tennessee State, and their best win was over UTM, who didn't make the playoffs) and South Carolina State (no bad losses, but no good wins and only 8 of them).

IMO, there's an issue with those three teams being in the field. IMO, if you're considering an 8 DI win team with a questionable resume, Charleston Southern belonged over South Carolina State; same amount of losses, same amount of DI wins, but Chuck South has a win over Coastal. Additionally, I still think W&M should have been in ... they had 7 DI wins, they were .500 in conference and they have TWO wins over playoff teams. I also would've had Lehigh in over the three that got in, for consistencies sake ... 8 DI wins, win over a team in the playoffs, bad loss against Bucknell but extenuating circumstances.

So, IMO, I would've swapped Lehigh, W&M and Chuck South for SHSU, Jacksonville State and SC State.

Chuck South lost 2 in a row (2 bad ones), not 3. They also had a better win than YSU.

W&M was the only 7-5 team I saw that had a .500 conference record, 7 DI wins, and a quality win.
I my opinion even SIU deserved it more than SC State. UNI and YSU more than W&M. Either way I wouldn't feel as bad if it were W&M at least.

Their most impressive win is....Morgan?

They have three horrific losses and I am not saying YSU should be in either. It is just they are the same, two struggling teams but at least YSU isn't getting pummeled by bad teams.

That's the point of discussion boards... for discussion. My argument is that YSU was more deserving than SCSU. It appears you have no counter argument other than being a conference homer which I admit is part of the reason I'm pushing YSU but they have quality wins and schedule strength to back up my argument.

This is not politics and politics shouldn't play a role in the selection process but, unfortunately, there's probably some validity to your points.

People need to realize that seldom do the historical auto bid conferences (not the ones who are new to the process, like the NEC, the Big South and the PFL) almost always get their co-champions into the field. Hence, South Carolina State (as I predicted) made it in as MEAC co-champs. Chattanooga being overlooked as a Southern Conference co-champ is the first time that a SoCon champ has been snubbed. A lot of alliances always work in these things, you vote for my team and I've vote for your team.

Let me spell it out to you-
No one, and I mean no one gives a crap about what color the players on the team are. You were picked over 5 teams(possibly more) that deserved it more than you. That is it. Why don't you make the argument about how you are better than all of them? Or even 1 or 2. Instead you talk in hypotheticals and present false arguments.

Always love this time of year when it's time for the annual MVFC you're getting screwed over again. Put SC St. into the MVFC this season and they MIGHT have been around WIU's level.

I agree that having a SC St rep on the selection committee was the difference, and this must be a conference alliance thing.

I don't so much have a problem with the MVFC only getting 2 teams in the playoffs as the teams that didn't make it have only themselves to blame. What I have a problem with is the huge number of teams that made the playoffs without really accomplishing anything during the season and that have zero chance of competing for the title, much less winning a game in the playoffs. The expanded playoff field has made things worse and not better. In my opinion the playoff field should be capped at 16 teams and not all conferences (especially non scholarship) should have an automatic qualifier.

Happened last year in the CAA, a far more powerful conference than the MEAC (I don't need to defend that statement, it's fact). The only way it's impossible is if there are 9 or more teams from the same conference (that have all played each other) in the playoffs.

So? If the CAA has 5 of the 8 best performing teams in the playoffs then they should have 5 of the 8 quarterfinalists. It's not a beauty pageant where as many conferences as possible should be represented late in the playoffs.

Yeah, you're handicapping the bracket simply because they're in the same conference and possibly giving them favorable matchups.

If anything, seed the entire field 1-24 and then make the bracket. What conference a team is from should have absolutely no bearing on where they are placed in the bracket. The "either" rule is bad enough, but I understand the reasoning. If a "both" rule would be used, that would make the bracket an even bigger joke by forcing matchups that wouldn't normally be in the bracket.

YES! Thank you for reminding me. They were a 7-4 team but two of those losses were to FBS Bowl teams (Kent, and LSU), and they only loss to LSU by 2 possessions. So yeah, the teams left out this year have nothing on Towson, Richmond, and Lehigh (Patriot League) being left out last year. SCSU being in this year is wacky. It almost makes the BCS look like a more fair assessment of validating teams. Of course I don't actually like the BCS, but heck it doesn't have the subjective element that the NCAA selection committee obviously does.

I also agree with a previous poster who said that the field being expanded to 24 is a bad thing. I totally agree. It's silly. There's no way an NEC or Pioneer team will EVER win a national title, until they are full scholly programs. It's stupid like March Madness being 64 teams; a 16 seed will never beat a 1 seed in that ridiculous tournament. Our precious FCS playoff system is also turning into "madness" as the field expands.

A stadium, mind you, that is on a landlocked campus, with only two legit entrances to even GET over to the stadium (one that they close on gamedays), in a city that suffers from gridlock traffic at any given time of the day.
