Friday, Nov. 22, 1963.
Thanksgiving was only six days away but the weather was more like October, beautiful for football.
Harvard-Yale. The weekend breathed anticipation as events unfolded in New Haven.

Here is my take on Nov. 22, 1963 in the College Sports Journal. You can't talk about that weekend without mentioning how the Harvard-Yale game fit into the picture:

I love the fact that JFK (which tragically was his last trip home) went to the Harvard game....truly a fan of football:

Thanks for posting, Mr. C
Like everyone else who was alive and aware I remember exactly where I was 50 years ago today when I heard about the assassination. I was in 7th grade science class. One of the other teachers came into our class and whispered something to our teacher. Mr. Hayden took us all down to the TV room to watch the events unfold.
An unforgettable event in our lives.

Good thread! Puts things into proper perspective for "rivalry week."
Mr. C, I didn't know you were AARP-eligible!

Interesting. While I remember the day JFK was shot, I didn't recall that college football games were postponed. The author of the story, DeGange, went on to be the longtime SID at Dartmouth. Good writer with alot of Ivy sports history. I still keep in touch with him.

Now that is a big ouch on the AARP front. I get the literature ... haven't sent back any money.
It is incredible how much I remember from that weekend. I watched TV constantly as things unfolded during those dark, depressive days.
