ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fourth-ranked Michigan will likely be without its most dynamic receiver at Happy Valley against Penn State on Saturday night, and he could miss much more time than that.

The Detroit News, citing sources close to the situation, reported on Monday that Mario Manningham (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=180763) is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery Tuesday morning to repair a partially torn meniscus in his knee. The paper also said Manningham may have a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in the knee.

Tough loss, I was at the game last Sat. and saw him limping off the field. I guess he broke on a route and something happened, no contact. He is Michigan's big play receiver and will be missed. No way to tell until after his surgery on how long he'll be out. I've heard 3-4 weeks to the rest of the season. He's only a Soph.

Adrian Arrington will have to step up a long with the rest of the receivers. That means you too Breaston!

On a side note, I've met with Super Mario and he's from Warren Harding HS in Warren, Ohio near Youngstown. Also the same HS as Maurice Clarett.

Here's a pic of us after Penn State game in 2005 where he caught the game winner with no time left. Taken in the tailgate lot on UofM golf course. He looks small there but gained a lot of muscle this year

Some good news from the Detroit Free Press

Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham will miss the Penn State game, U-M coach Lloyd Carr said Tuesday.

"Mario had arthroscopic surgery this morning and we got great news as far as the injury," Carr said during Tuesday's Big Ten teleconference. "He’ll miss this week but we’re very excited about the news we received."

Carr would not speculate on a timetable for Manningham's return. ESPN reported during Michigan's win over Michigan State on Saturday that the injury was to Manningham's right knee.

Manningham leads the Big Ten in receiving yards (527) and touchdowns (nine).

I'm sorry but with a loss to PSU I couldn't put ND over a team that lit them up on their own home field.

Do they deserve to be in the title picture with their schedule?

Just as long as they get him back for the OSU game.

Rooting for both UM and OSU to be undefeated going into their showdown.

Carr was very happy with the results of MM's surgery. Look for him to be back in 2-3 weeks.

Did you play football? You appear bigger than him in that picture.

I played HS ball and one year at a DIII (Mount Union, Ohio)

I'm the same height (6'-0) but about 25 pds heavier than MM. He's listed at 182 lbs. this year but I'm guessing he was around 170-175 in that pic, his freshman year. I saw him after this years Vandy game in street clothes and you can definitely tell he bulked up this year.

I saw MM play in HS several times. He burnt Ohio State's starting safety Jamario O'Neal (Cleveland Glenville) for 200+ yds in a game his Sr. year

I smell a big upset by Penn State Saturday night in a chilly Happy Valley. Nittany Lions by 27-21....

With or without Manningham, Michigan has too many weapons and a tenacious defense
They're also 4-1 in Happy Valley and 9-2 in night games.

Michigan wins 24-17

Gotta love regionalization on TV. Instead of watching Michigan-Penn St. 90% of Montana gets to watch the snooze fest that will be USC-Arizona St. Looks like I will be listening to the game online. :bang:

That sucks, I remember that when I lived briefly in Great Falls (94-95)
