Excellent luncheon today honoring 50 Game members and the Seniors. Each captain addressed the assemblage. Must have been close to 300 peoplel at the Mountain Top dining room. The event was also being filmed by ESPNU. Not sure when it will be broadcast. Kurfis and Sherman really gave great short speeches about their time on South Mountain and HC Coen was fired up. A lot of good vibes all around!

Anyone have any idea on where to find the betting lines? Since Bogie has gone MIA... none posted this week... anyone know where to find the FCS games?

I saw one site saying that Lehigh is -4.5, but not sure if it's the same one he uses..

Holy Cross -22

Fordham -14.5

Bucknell -7.5

Harvard -8

Princeton -10.5

That's really the only one that I know of as well. I still contend that LU is about a TD favorite. I have LU by 6 but maybe they go for 2, lol. TSN had LU by 5 which would be a cover. The O/U would seem to favor LU in the over imo. I really think LC wants the score in the low 20's....

Villanova is favored, but by 11? I'm surprised Montana State is not getting more points. +5.5 seems low....

I'm not sure HC can cover 22 against GU. That line seems really high...

No way Lehigh is a 7 point favorite heading into this game given how the Pards have played over their past five. If this were the pre-Harvard Pards, I'd say sure.

Heard about Shane, not Ricky. Nice logjam on the OL. 5th yrs rare ,love to have them.

I'm not sure who will be catching the passes or running the ball on offense. I give you there's some promise at WR but I don't see anything at RB. There's no way Sodeke can be the heir apparent.....

Defense does figure to be much improved. Layton could easily put on another 10-15 pounds and be that beast in the middle LU needs.

Brown will be the RB ,if healthy. Bit smaller than Sherm but hard nosed and faster. Kee is also n the mix. Not at all woried about WR. Parris,Gaul,Knott Sansone more than aequate

No word yet on whether or not the the league will provide subtitles for the marble-mouthed Lehigh guy.

Did Checc mix up the McHale and Shaf playbook? Up until the last two drives, it looked like nothing but read option/QB draw for McHale, and passes for Shaf. Straightened that out and we drive the field. But McHale can't throw worth a damn. Guess that means it's time for Sherman to take over the game.

Somebody will have to explain to me why McHale started and then why they left himin the game. Worst QB performance I've seen in many many years. D back in usual mode, ineffective

Congrats to Lafayette. The Pards completely outplayed us and, surprisingly, outcoached us as well. I'm still baffled as to why McHale got the nod and was kept in the game despite all of his errant passes. Sherman was our lone bright spot on O.

Today, LC was the better team with the right coaching decisions. Big plays, lucky bounces, and a capable QB were the difference in this one. Reed played better than any QB I've seen from LC in 7 years...didn't force any passes and hit almost all of his targets. They could win a couple playoff games, given the right matchups and complete game efforts like the past 2 weeks. Hope 150 next year is more of the battle we were expecting for today.

Lehigh QBs are a joke! Missed open guys in the flat! Doesn't see wide open WR streaking while not even under pressure!

We had a lucky bounce or two but it was no question who was better. So I guess we are top 25 right?! Lehigh: All puff and no cream... Pfft ok...

Yes. The only thing Lehigh fans could do today was watch in horror as the coaching staff went with a QB with little more than a quarter of playing time under his belt. His only appearance was a horrible performance. Then the promising freshman, who has won the past two games for us, enters and plays well enough today, but returns to the bench. Unbelievable.

Lafayette still earned that win, however.

Your freshman should have played all game. Ideally, your coach should've had some trick/ option/ play action/ wild cat or anything prepared this week to make up for not having your first string QB. He just looked under prepared and showed poor judgement. There was a definite lack of planning and thinking.

When your QB is not making throws to wide open receivers he needs to be pulled out of the game. He didn't even look like he had the arm strength/ technique to play D1 ball. Good luck with your at large tomorrow.

He got in a bit today. No idea what's going on with D. Coach K did run a bend dont break D but he realized key to that was a good front 7 that could and di pressure QB and limit runs. For whatever reason the front 7 could not do that this year. Our DCs knowing that still stayed with soft coverage giving us the chance all yr of watching teams move down the field and score on us in mind numbing regularity.
Andy has a lot to decide this off season. He best get a much better 2nd schollie class. Giveny outh and losing a great QB 8-3 does not seem bad but it really is. Way too much luck and creampuffs to count this as a good yr. If he fools himself that this was a yr of achjevement, the slide will start.

2. RichH is wrong here. 8-3 is not bad, and those wins were not lucky. Lehigh deserved their eight wins. But the loss of BB changed a lot. Lehigh was able to smoke a fading Holy Cross and the M*A*S*H unit of Colgate, but going up against a team that was coming together in a big way late in the season was different.

With how we played yesterday, we still would have won if BB was healthy, though maybe not by 22. Defense couldn't stop a bourbon drinking c2 getting carries.

Lehigh got a bit lucky at Princeton but that's it really. CCSU was bad though their missed XPs and FGs could have made a difference. That was a solid win vs UNH.

I'd really be worried next year as a Lehigh fan re QB situation.

I think Shaf will be ok. RB is a big concern. WR is unknown, dropped passes by returning players through the year. Poor coaching was a surprise in that we stuck with McHale, makes me shake my head wonder what was behind that decision.

A tale of 2 Qb's for Lafayette and Lehigh this year.

Keith Sherman had a good game for Lehigh. Don't understand why McHale was left in so long unless Shafnisky has a poor grasp of the passing game and the coaches felt he had little chance to lead a comeback on the air.

For us, this is the team we expected all year. Great to see all aspects of the team come together these last few weeks with the help of Drew Reed.

I'm not worrying too much about our QB situation as long as McHale never sees another snap, unless it's out of the wildcat, and Shafnisky is our QB. RB and DBs are much more pressing issues.

Yeah I was right across from there, but didn't stick around long after the game. A sizable group of recent softball alums created a big mess and we had some rather foul characters from Lafayette next to us, although I attribute their behavior to Penn State gear they had. Yes I noted that too! I dont know if some just decided to continue at the tailgates. There was a big chunk of open space during the whole game to my left. Coen has never shown himself to be stupid or hopelessly dedicated to a wrong headed idea. In my opinion he just didn't feel that he had a viable Plan B. I don't think that he trusted Shafnisky enough at this point to put the season on his back. He may be a good one down the road but I'm betting that Coen doesn't see him on that road until 2014. I've stated again and again that there are two places you don't want to see a freshman - QB and OL. Reed has proven that every "rule" has its exception, but they don't come along all that often.

Getting caught up with a lot of domestic 'chores' that had been ignored the past few days. Finally able to check in. I haven't had the time to read this thread, but thought I'd give my $.02.
First, congrats to the 'pards. The key to this game was that they needed and wanted it more. I felt that before the game. LC was fired up. I didn't get that sense from our players on the sideline. Some hollering, but not the 'psych' up conduct one sees.
Second, I think Andy kept with McHale because neither QB was 'on'. Both short-armed passes to wide open receivers at least 5-6 times with ball at the ankles or on the ground. Reminded me of Donovan McNabb. McHale knows the playbook better, and when behind with the hurry up offense in the fourth quarter, I doubt Shafnisky was ready to handle that.
Third, our secondary was the usual problem. the center field was open all day. I think we had decent pressure on Reed overall. Got a number of sacks and actually played the run okay. Scheurman got his yards, but up front I thought we did better than expected.
Fourth, somedays the ball doesn't bounce your way and the percentages catch up. Witness not one, but two fumbles that were huge by LC, but which they were still able to score a TD and make a two point conversion. That first fumble and fortuitous bounce was huge, considering..
Fifth, the horrendous 'no call' of offensive pass interference on the second TD. I'm glad I taped the game because it was as blatant on the TV screen as it was from where I was 70 yards away. Moreover, it was a fourth down play. The lack of our ability to get the turnover on the first possession, and then having the second TD count created a hole that seemed to have a psych effect.
Sixth, despite our horrendous play, I felt really good at halftime down only 7 points. I didn't think we would continue that bad the second half. I was wrong. It was amazing that we were still in the game with 8 minutes to go in the fourth down only 8 points. That is when Parrish made what has to be one of the most embarrassing pass attempts I've ever seen on the reverse. It worked like a charm to Kurfiss up at Colgate last week. This week, with a new wrinkle, Shafnisky could have walked into the endzone. Obviously, Parrish was trying to 'place' the ball to the wide open receiver/QB...and came up 'small'. And that is what occurred throughout the game. Some players were not able to "step up" and make the play that the circumstance called for. Both QBs showed that. Neither was ready to handle the 'prime time' demand.
Seventh, kudos to Reed who showed he is ready for prime time. Not a cannon for an arm, but he throws a very nice pass that when you have experienced receivers, like a Ross who can make play so long as the ball is in his reach, you will generally have success.
Eighth, the special teams play of Lehigh was subpar....with the lone exception of Divers whose punting was excellent. KO coverage was horrible and twice Pandy kicked out of bounds just like he did at Colgate...that is UFR!! I noticed Leaks did not return for the second half. Possibly hurt on his fumble on the KO return in the second quarter. At the same time, a blocked punt that set up the first TD, and blocked FG just before the half I would have thought would have given a spark to the offense.
Ninth, I feel bad for Keith Sherman. Another great day for a great kid. He tried like hell to make something happen.
Finally, all streaks will come to an end and if it was to happen, I'm glad it happened Saturday and not in Yankee Stadium! IMO, Tavani stayed out of the way of Loose and Fein. We only saw the Frankasaurus in the fourth quarter when it was called for to ground out the clock. Loose dialed up the right calls time and again as if he knew what Cecchini was calling. Our "co-DC's" need to have a serious soul search with Coen as to how that is going to be handled. Perhaps our failures on defense have more to do with personnel, but it was clear most of the year that the defense needs a reexamination in toto.
As a former player, I hate losing, and losing to your arch-rival is the worst. And the fact it has happened for the first time in six years does not make it acceptable, and our players need to understand that. Good Luck to the 'pards next week. I understand you are going to UNH. Ironic, since that was probably our best game of the year. I see UNH favored, but not 'prohibitively'. LC can win that game and give the PL some redemption.

FWIW Andy said that McHale had the much better week in practice than Shafnisky, in which case you might want to pause and think that a critical play in the season was the one where McHale got pummeled against Holy Cross, which knocked him out against the rest of that game and Colgate. Rather than having McHale getting battle-tested for 149, he was out and (essentially) the 3rd string QB was getting the reps since he was the only healthy guy left.

Lafayette came out and executed with a great gameplan and won the game in all facets. Yet I can't help wondering if the extraordinary number of injuries at QB - and the timing and order of them - really did Lehigh in just as much. BB's injury was at a horrible time in the season, but in retrospect, McHale's might have been even worse. That's where the smoke and mirrors really came into play: they beat fading Holy Cross and warm-bodies-only Colgate with Sherman and Kurfis really propping up the fact that McHale and Shaf were learning on the job. That wasn't going to fly against Lafayette in 149 - a starving team AND a good team with everything to play for - and the key development that McHale probably needed to become some semblance of that guy was lost with his rib injury.

I was very high on Shaf being "the man", based on some good things he did in his two games (and in 149, too). But in retrospect, he just wasn't ready for it yet. Maybe it's Reed and Pujals and their early success that raised the bar so high, I don't know. But I'm not down on him for the long term. He's raw and he'll learn, and a healthy QB competition this spring will be good for both QBs.

As for the defense, what Lehigh has missed more than anything else is a Billy Boyko/Mike Groome at linebacker, and IMO, a lot of Lehigh's problems there will be fixed once they do.

And it's Andy's job, and the coaching staff, to sign those guys while Lafayette is freezing in a hotel up in New Hampshire.

You guys do realize that Drew Reed is Lafayette's third-string QB, right? That we beat you 50-28 with a third string? Chew on that one for a while. xnodx

The circumstances and timing of Reed's emergence as starter could not have been more different.

Not really. I saw all three of your QB's play this year, and Reed was better than the other two. He was third string because Frank said he was. Seems to me many coaches, not just Frank, will go with the upper classman because he's paid his dues, despite what the talent says. I give Coen a lot of credit three years ago when he made Jr. Lum #1 over prior year's Lafayette game MVP J.B. Clark, who then left school. Not much choice between McHale, who had limited reps and Shafnisky who had even less.
