Wouldn't be so quick to knock UNI because they are just now beginning to hit their stride. The Panthers are getting it together now by playing better D. Also ISU's Redbirds only rank at #21 on the Sagarin I-AA list, but we'll have a shot to really springboard this weekend against the #3 I-AA ranked SIU.
It's ISU's homecoming, and the Redbirds are licking their chops to get a big win over the undefeated Salukis.

not knocking UNI
just saying Sagarin does not include DII games in the rankings- normally it isn't a big deal since most top IAA's win. In this care however both UNI and Mont St have a loss omitted from the data used to create their rating

I agree Hansel.....UNI is over-rated.....
However....something that I still believe people have forgot and I don't want this to sounds like an excuse....But UNI lost their Defensive Coordinator and DB Couch/Recruiting Coordinator to Missouri State after the Championship game. When I take that into consideration....and we have 4 new starters on Defense since the SDSU game......I think the ship is finally back on course....but choppy waters are definately ahead......painful to think how we lost against UND and ISU.....

forgot to mention that the Great West is #1 in Saggy's ratings
(again a bit skewed since SDSU lost to a DIII which is not counted)

This model is nuts. He must think the Pac-10 is NFL level football....4 of the top 5 SOS schools are in the Pac-10! That's a joke. The Pac-10 is USC and Cal, then EVERYBODY else.
And Montana's SOS is tougher than 5 of the top 25 teams in the nation?    And they're (the top 25) presumably playing 10 or 11 I-A schools?

I think the Sag has been taken out of the GPI (which they pretty much use to determine the play-off field after the auto's), so...no...it's all for s--ts and giggles.

Sorry. That's what I meant.
Let me rephrase that: How can they put UNH behind UM?

Those of us who know the talent level of Southern Illinois and that of Appalachian State know that ranking SIU 51 and ASU 57 is ridiculous. App State would shred SIU's defense, just like it did in last year's playoffs. Sagrin puts way too much emphasis on strength of schedule and, for I-AA teams, playing I-As. Any rating that doesn't have New Hampshire and Appalachian State at the top of the I-AAs is pretty silly. While I have a lot of respect for Montana, ranking them 33rd in Division I is a bit much. I would rank them fairly close behind UNH and ASU, however.

Why? I never have been much of a believer in his system.

i gotta say, these computer polls are not very good... maybe it is too early for them do a good job, but these rankings are fairly rediculous and it's sad if it helps determine who makes the playoffs...
