Post any significant updates (injuries, final score updates, coaching changes, etc.) regarding your men's basketball team here.

Harvard is now 1-0 on the young season. Score against Holy Cross is 82-72 not 80-74 posted in another thread.

No games yet, but North Dakota's starting senior center Brekke is likely done with career-ending concussion issues. Unfortunate for him and could cause problems for what looked like a team with a good chance to make the dance this year.

ACU has been humiliated by a number of really good teams en route to an 0-5 start, topped by a 60 plus point curb stomping by Iowa. The highlight of our season thus far has been a half time lead over Maryland. Xavier looms straight ahead. Our Sagarin SOS is 38th and we are ranked 350 of 351.

I hope we are being paid big bucks to play these teams.

How does Harvard look this year?

bonarae
November 20th, 2013, 07:56 PM
Harvard is a loaded team. Amaker has been playing 8-10 players per game (out of 19), of which majority are either upperclassmen (juniors or seniors) or a March hero last season (Chambers, only a sophomore). Endosomwan has been playing limited minutes so far.

Meanwhile, we stomped Bryant to close Lavietes until a few days before Christmas, 86-68. We are off until Sunday, when we will play the Buffs in Boulder. Then it's off to Alaska for the Thanksgiving weekend, and we'll face Denver in the first game. All will be on national cable channels (the Colorado game on ESPNU, the Alaska games on CBS Sports Network.)

Just like top programs play cupcakes, these are ours. Not saying I like it, but I know it is easy to point a finger at Minnesota, but many teams do it to inflate their record before conference play, that way if the play .500 they have enough win to likely be at least a bubble team and squeak in. It kinda forces everyone else's hand, and for teams like NDSU/UND you have to have to win your conference or have a completely amazing record if you didn't win your conference and hope for a play in game just to get bounced right away. It isn't always fair, but the way it is with that many DI teams at the same level.

A 3-1 set up with a guaranteed win (average win by over 20 points with starters being pulled)...with our coach a UND alum (and D2 Al American) and one of our former player's uncle on the coaching staff...yeah, wonder why that happened.

These games are about getting HOME GAMES. All the Dakotas, and IIRC, the whole Summit league had 4 of these awful games. Heck, counted for the D-I teams, but were exhibitions/non-counters for the lower level teams. Until the 4 Dakotas can work together to get a Thur/Sat Nov/Dec for a pair of visiting schools, it's a complete b*tch getting ANYBODY to play in the upper midwest. Constantly on the back end of home/home arrangements. We'll see if MoValley or Big East (looking at Creighton) will come to Frost for some games.

Jacks WBB has been successful at getting some great programs to play in Brookings. MBB, can't get any programs to come visit. An occasional MAC, OVC, WAC and Southland. But I believe MWC (Nevada) is the highest RPI conference to play MBB in Frost.

I think NDSU got a 2 for 1 just to get Southern Miss up. I hope it doesn't take that just to get teams up here. Maybe UND needs to play the Dakota 3 twice in the same season, that would be six OOC for us but it's only 2 OOC game for you guys. Harvard is leading UConn in Storrs by 6 late in the first half. What is the Crimson's ceiling this year in your opinion? Now that football is over I'm starting to expand my college hoops watching. I'm a bit surprised they are not ranked given the momentum that was carried over from last year and their current 13-1 record. Cornell was the last nationally relevant team from the IL when they made it to the Sweet 16.

Can Harvard push it to the Elite 8 or Final 4? I'd like to think a 4 or 5 seed is possible. Princeton in 97-98 was the last really good IL team. They ended up getting jobbed with a 5 seed. I'd like to think a one or two loss Harvard team could do better....

One thing about the BSC is if a team gets hot towards the end of the season and runs a muck through the tournament any one of the 7 can earn a trip to the dance.
