OK, so I'm watching the NC State/FSU game last night, and everything seems normal. I see the fans, hear the bands and see the bands. THERE was the problem. I hear that annoying ass tomahawk chop that FSU plays OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again.
But I look at the band and the unis say "NCCU" on the chest?!
I see it several times throughout the game. The band SOUNDS like FSU but doesn't look like it. Then, towards the end of the game, the announcers mention that FSU decided NOT to bring their band to a nationally televised game. So they went out and HIRED North Carolina Central University's marching band (a D-II school).
I'm not sure if I've EVER heard of a school doing this before.

I was at the game last night, and I thought something didn't seem right about FSU's band. Then someone told me itwas NC Central's band. Definitely odd, but kudos to FSU for thinking of something like that. As far as the tomahawk chop went. I really didn't hear it as much as I thought it would. The Central band did a good job though. It was hard to hear them most of the time though because Carter Finely was rocking last night.
I know most people don't like NC State, but the players have really fought back to beat two decent (not great) teams.
Anyways...that was the first time I had ever heard of a school doing something like FSU did. Seems like a good idea though if transporting your band isn't possible. Must be nice to have enough money to do something like that though:).

You were able to hear them very well on TV and ESPN showed them a good bit during the game. If they hadn't mentioned that it was NCCU's band, I still would be thinking it was FSU's band.

I recall over a decade ago when the NCAA held first round hoop games at the Hartford Civic Center, Clemson hired the Central Conn State pep band. They learned the Tiger Rag (or whatever their fight song is) and most people thought it was the Clemson band. Still, I don't know how often this happens.
Personally, you couldn't pay me enough money to do that fricken tomahawk chop ****e!! While not a NC State fan, I was definitely pulling for them over FSU.

didn't Bucknell rent a band in the NCAA tourney recently as well?
