SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame's basketball arena will get a new look and a new name thanks to a $24.7 million renovation, half of which is being paid for by the former chairman of Morgan Stanley.
"It's time to give this 40-year-old facility a facelift," athletic director Kevin White said Thursday.

Exactly. I know Notre Dame isn't a basketball school, they do have some tradition, but the Joyce Center is very blah for school with so much money. However i don't understand why they would decrease the seating capacity to under 10,000. I'm guessing they're using Uconn's Gampel Pavilion as a blueprint for the new renovations. However Uconn can use the Hartford Civic Center when they want to draw 20,000. I have to believe ND would easily be able to draw 15,000 for a big game against Uconn or Syracuse.

Better to fill it every game than have big crowds for big games and empty seats for others
