I guess for Philip, Jeanie Buss was just too irressistable and she worked her magic in making him return as the head coach of the LA Lakers. Should be interesting considering Philip's remarks against Kobe Bryant being uncoachable in his book.

He doesn't have the Shaq/Kobe tandem and this Lakers team is coming off a year where they did not reach the playoffs. Vlade Divac turned out to be an injured piece of filth and the Lakers just did not show any flash of the team that had been successful during Philip's first era. If he can make something happen this coming year, that'd speak highly of his coaching ability, especially while lacking the star power of two stars...

I don't see Phil having the kind of success he has had before. The Lakers aren't a good team at all, it wouldn't suprise me one bit if they didn't even reach the playoffs next year.

It will take more than Phil Jackson and his renowned karma to turn that sorry crew around.

Wow you guys act like they had the worst record in the league. Until mid Feb. where bryant, odom, mihm became injured at various times they were within two games of first round homecourt advantage in the west no less! They were a better team then injuries and loss of a coach midseason allowed. But i know everything is blown outta porportion when it comes to LA so everyone acts like they will never be good again. I think their history before and after Jerry Buss speaks for itself however.

p.s. I have to atleast give props for actually talking NBA on this board though. ;)

Didn't they finish lower than the Clippers? I just think there are too many other better teams in the West for the Lakers to be in contention next season. They may make the playoffs, but I think that is about as optimistic as Laker fans can be.

Yes they did. For the second time since moving to LA(1960). I'll take finishing below them as an abberation rather then a trend. Kinda like Wofford winning in Paulsen Stadium. Also the clippers are not the clippers of the 90's. The Mavs used to suck too remember? There is alot of talent on that other LA team, now let see if Donald Sterling will pay them. As for the lakers making the playoffs i think a 5 or 6 seed is not out of the question. Sure they wont be a contender for a couple of year but they get a number 10 pick this year with kobe, odom and butler, all younger players that can play multiple positions which is crucial to the triangle offense jackson/winters runs. Time will tell but the franchise is heading in the right direction.
