Can someone post, or link me, to an empty bracket for this year or let me know how many games are being held each round.
I was impatient on my google search and didn't find what I wanted in my first 4 links or first page of google images so I am moving on to other things but figured someone here would have it handy

first round = 16 teams (8 games) with the winners each travelling to one of the 8 seeded teams (who have first round byes) for the second round
can't find an empty bracket, but TSN's "playoff projection" at least shows how the bracket is set up.

Not sure if this helps but this is an empty 24 team bracket. Same as what will be used this year.

I would go with the "seeded" variety, myself. It shows how the top 8 seeds are laid out, though you'd have to ignore the seed numbers in the first round, as the bottom 16 aren't seeded in the FCS, but more matched up on the basis of geography and avoiding first-round matchups with conference mates.
