There were high expectations heading into the football season for the Redbirds. A combination of a transfer dual-threat quarterback from a Football Bowl Subdivision school, a playoff appearance the year before and a new stadium all led to many believing the Redbirds were going to be at the top to stay in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
