(2nd) Youngstown State University (7-1 4-0) @ (T-3rd) University of South Dakota (4-4 3-2) -- YSU finds a way to score some points in their first trip to USD. YSU by 13.
(T-9th) University of Northern Iowa (4-4 0-4) @ (T-3rd) Illinois State University (4-4 3-2) -- ILSU looked bad against YSU, I mean real bad, but they've comeback strong and UNI is imploding before our eyes with some awful late losses. ILSU by 3.
(T-9th) Indiana State University (1-7 0-4) @ (T-3rd) Missouri State University (3-6 3-2) -- Indiana State is bad and Missouri State is no longer all that bad. I like their offense a lot. MSU by 14.
(6th) Southern Illinois (4-4 2-2) @ (8th) Western Illinois (3-6 1-4) -- I think WIU has a solid defense, at least it looked good in the rain at YSU. If it rains, I think WIU wins. If it doesn't rain, I like SIU by 7. Actually I think SIU wins either way by 7-10 points.

No.
Their FBS win against Iowa State is still a huge win. They win out and finish 8-4 they are in. Maybe even at 7-5....but they would need a lot of help to make it in.

YSU goes 7-4 and 4-4 in MVFC play last year, including an FBS win, and we don't make it. One thing is for sure, one more loss and they are done. Oh how I would love to see YSU knock them off.

I agree with Bison Fan that UNI isn't dead but they need to win out. If they go 7-5 they'll be 3-5 in conference. Can't see any team getting in with a losing conference record no matter how weak the bubble is around the nation.

comparing and contrasting last year's Penguin team to this year's Panther team:
YSU lost by 41 in Fargo; UNI lost by 1.
YSU lost by 17, 13, and 7 all in regulation for their other losses; UNI has 3 OT losses by 7, 7, and 3.
only 20 teams made the field last year (10 at large); this year there will be 24 (13 at large)
If UNI can turn things around and actually get over the hump in a game (or break this damn bad juju), and win out the season, they'll certainly be in the playoff "picture", though they aren't a lock. If they lose another one, I don't think they have much of a chance.
And I would argue that YSU was in the "playoff picture" last year even though they didn't make the selection (i.e. one of the "last ones out")
Frankly, unless UNI finds some way to improve, even if they win out by just squeaking out wins in similar fashion to the way they've been squeaking out losses the past 3 weeks, I don't think they deserve a playoff spot.

It seems that most teams go on a 1 or 2 game losing spurt after playing NDSU. My own opinion is that these teams are beat up after taking their best shot and they are also hung over. UNI has never recovered from that game because they lost some people that are really important to their team. Everyone is dealing with injuries. YSU hasn't played a game at full strength and is missing some big players on both offense and defense, however they finnally appear to have the depth needed to continue winning. The MVFC is a physical and injuriies are part of it.

I was curious about how teams do after NDSU plays them, and so far it only looks like UNI has suffered. KSU, DSU, and MSU all won the week after they played NDSU, SDSU lost their game after NDSU to SIU, and we have yet to see how SIU and InSU rebound. I hope that the Bison's very physical play catches up to them and USD can sneak out of there with a win the last week of the season ;)

Youngstown St @ South Dakota - Interesting game, we'll get to see YSU play their toughest game since SIU and we'll get to see if the Coyotes have the guns to disrupt the conference and playoff races down the stretch.
Northern Iowa @ Illinois St - Let's see if my UNI jinx can continue.... they've been killin me the last 3 weeks!
Indiana St @ Missouri St - The only good thing I can say about the Sycs is at least they're not Grambling. The Bears roll in this one.

There are only 4 weeks left in the regular season so I'd say it's doubtful. An interesting dilemma for Lennon would be who to start in the playoffs if SIU did manage to win out with the backup QB.

I dont know if USD is able to score enough to beat YSU. YSU is still one of the best offenses in the MVFC and has a 5th year senior qb who is a 4 year starter who has seen a good defense or two.

Not saying it wont happen, just saying its hard for me to see

Yep.
The DakotaDome is small than the FD with the fans being pretty close to the field.

DakotaDome = mini UNIdome. at least that was my impression of it (both inside and outside) when I went there for a game a few years ago.

Is Dj's hip pointer from the Bison game healed up yet?

It seemed to be healed, but today he hurt his ankle or foot. Was taken to the locker room on a cart with a boot on in the first half. Last play of the first half today Kollmorgen was taken off the field with what looked like a concussion.

Wonder if a team has ever been undefeated in non-conference play and ranked in the top 5 nationally, only to go winless in conference play.
Hopefully they can beat Western at home, but I certainly wouldn't put any money on it.
Defense is playing well again, but the offense is non-existant, especially with DJ and SK out.

YSU played sloppy had 3 bad TO'sthat resulted in TD's, a terrible 4th down attempt that resulted in nothing, missed PAT's, botched 2 point conversions, had a LB ejected for targeting ( which he was clearly pushed into the receiver) overcame foolish coaching decisions, bad clock management, bad use of time outs, bad play calling, vintage MVFC referees, a tough Dome environment, lost 2 starters to injuries and still managed to pull it off.
USD is well coached and they play tough.

Immeasurable rage that we lost that game in the last seconds. Defense has been so clutch in the 4th this year, and they give up that. So upset. I'll look at the positives later. Watch out for us next year I guess.

Great win for YSU! I was at the game and it was a thriller.
Difference: YSU's 3 turnovers directly led to 17 USD points. Can't turn it over on the road like that.

UNI 0-5 in conference play...xlolx
Who would of thought that at the beginning of the year?
The Valley could get only 2 teams in this year....xconfusedx Looks like a bunch of Valley teams will end up with 4 or 5 loses.

Good game by YSU. Very explosive and skilled offense - Hess was impressive. Hard hitting emotional game. Hurts to lose in the final seconds, but YSU was the better team. USD is getting better, but not good enough to get over the next hump.
Like how Coach Glenn has the team competing with a two-deep that is 70% sophomores or younger. Need some more depth and experience.
It seems like every MVFC team is getting beaten up badly with injuries. Has that been the norm over the years?

Injuries have been a problem for about 10 years. Now that tha Dakota schools have been added it is even more of a problem. The key to this conference is winning with injuries, which comes down to depth. That is how it is. It also hurts us when it comes to playoff selection. There is so much parity that we end up with many teams with medeocre records but battle tested teams.

agreed. When the conference was UNI, Western Kentucky, YSU, and South West Missouri State up to todays version of the MVFC, Injuries and dealing with them have always been key to the sucess of the teams

There are some pretty interesting matchups this week. YSU @ USD and SIU @ WIU in particular.

I've never liked the prevent D...I think it burned USD today.
I just think the YSU offense was too much for the USD defense overall. I was disappointed but not surprised they marched down and scored at the end of the game. Their speed at multiple positions and a very good senior QB really had their way all day. They do a great job with their veer run package. USD's inability to consistently stop the dive option on veer plays just opened up their other plays. Well done by the Penguins. I only think our defense forced two punts - our three other stops came by forcing turnovers. Two blind-side hits and a strip from behind on a downfield play.
The concern I would have as a Penguin fan is seeing NDSU and SDSU on the schedule yet - both teams have shown when they get rolling have a very physical running attack with great FCS backs. I see them eating up a lot of clock and having success.
The YSU defense will limit their chances of making a deep playoff run, unless they find a way to shore things up. The NDSU v YSU will be a must see game. Happy to see it is scheduled to be available on ESPN3.

That will be a tough one to pick. Which UNI team will show up this week? Traditionally, UNI is almost a lock at home to win but this year has been a disaster for them.

I have a feeling it won't be the good UNI team. There are just too many injuries mounting up on key players. Who knows if DJ can play. We could very well finish the season 4-8.

At the beginning of the year I would have said this outcome would have been zero % chance of happening.
Has UNI ever had a 5 game losing streak? In conference even?
