Showalter Won't Manage Rangers In 2007

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Buck Showalter was fired as the manager of the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, ending four seasons in which he was never able to get a team with several young All-Stars above third place in the AL West.

Texas was 80-82 this season, its sixth losing record in seven years since last making the playoffs in 1999. Showalter was 319-329 with the Rangers, his third managerial job, and still had three seasons left on his contract.

As a lifelong Rangers fan, I can tell you this is the best thing that has happened since 2004. There were reports that the Rangers FA called Jon Daniels (Rangers GM) and told him it was either Showalter was fired, or they wouldn't resign. It was well known in these parts that most of the players despised Showalter. I'm just happy that the Rangers could win the WS in 2007 now. Awesome.

Well, I know, but that's not fair because I'm a DBacks fan, and that story was repeated incessantly through the D'Back's championship run in 2001. How that guy got another job is beyond me. :smiley_wi :smiley_wi :smiley_wi :smiley_wi
