The Pioneer Football League is in its 21st season and is the original (and now the only) Division I strictly need-based football league.
From the Dayton notes (http://www.daytonflyers.com/news/2013/10/16/FB_1016133404.aspx):
"The University of Dayton football team will play its first night home game against a Pioneer Football League opponent in 10 seasons Saturday when the San Diego Toreros visit Welcome Stadium. Game time is 6:00 p.m. ET.
While a night game in the PFL is a rare thing, a critical league game between Dayton and USD is anything but. In the 20-year history of the PFL, the Flyers or the Toreros have won the league title 20 times.
Saturday's game will play true to form. San Diego is undefeated in three games in PFL play (4-2 overall), while Dayton is one game back at 2-1 (4-2 overall)...
Dayton leads the series 14-6, but USD has won the last two meetings, snapping a four-game Flyer win streak. Last year in San Diego, the Toreros won handily, 41-9 on Oct. 27."

What do you think the spread will be on the AQ's playoff game? I'll bet it's 20-24

It is about the REAL GAME of FCS teams. This is not a smackfest. In the 20-year history of the PFL, the Flyers or the Toreros have won the league title 20 times. They play this weekend. The winner is likely to get the AQ.

So wait, I'm confused. Did Drake forfeit all their 6 conference titles?

You guys forget that the reason there was opposition to a Pathetic Football League AQ is because all the big boys were skeered that the PFL teams would win. xrolleyesxxrolleyesx xlolxxlolxxnodx

Bit early to call winners when San Diego and Butler are 3-0 and 5 teams (including Dayton) are 2-1:

Marist already beat Dayton and lost to San Diego on the final play of the game.
Butler won the PF championship too a few years ago.

Lehigh has played Drake twice recently. I have no desire watch them play another PFL team....

if Drake wins the PFL auto bid and UNI were to miss the postseason, do you guys have to root for the IA team for "the better of the state"? :D

Remember, in that scenario, John Feinstein believes that Drake should be eligible to schedule an FBS squad, but UNI should not be.

Still confused. Any Drake fans on here that explain why they forfeited those 6 PFL titles?

Co-Champs??
Not always. Drake was the undisputed champ in 1995 and 2004, Valparaiso was the lone champ in 2003, Jacksonville in 2008. What's more confusing to me is how Dayton's 11 titles plus San Diego's 5 equals 20.

That's the New Math you learn when getting a great quality education at a PFL school. xsmiley_wix

Jacksonville has a title add recently as Dayton, 2010.
Since then Drake and San Diego have shared the title...as did butler last season.

Epic game. Dayton wins 45-38 in double overtime. PFL is going to be real interesting the rest of the way!
