Big South football continues this Saturday, Oct. 12, with the start of Conference play. Two games are on the slate -- No. 25 Charleston Southern at VMI live for FREE on the Big South Network, and Gardner-Webb at No. 6/8 Coastal Carolina in the Big South “Game of the Week” on ESPN3. THE SERIES: This is the 13th meeting between the schools. The series is tied, 6-6.
BUCCANEER BULLETS: Charleston Southern won the last meeting, a 32-14 home victory on Oct. 13, 2012 ... The Bucs are looking to become just the second team in Big South history to open 7-0 ... CSU is 3-8 all-time in Big South openers ... The Buccaneers will attempt to end a 9-game losing streak in Big South road games ... DE WILL HUNT leads the Big South with 5.0 sacks and is second with 8.0 TFL ... RB CHRISTIAN REYES (684) needs 91 rushing yards to set the CSU single-season record ... CSU is averaging 246.2 rushing yards this year.
KEYDET KICKS: VMI has won three of the last five meetings with CSU inside Foster Stadium ... The Keydets are 4-6 all-time in Big South openers and are looking to open 1-0 in League play for the second consecutive year ... QB ERIC KORDENBROCK, who has not thrown an interception in his last 155 attempts, needs 262 passing yards to become the seventh QB in League history with 6,000 in a career ... The Keydets lead the Big South in passing offense with 243.0 yards per game ... VMI’s six interceptions this season match all of last year’s total.

THE SERIES: This is the 11th meeting between the schools. The Chanticleers lead the series, 8-2.
BULLDOG BITES: Gardner-Webb is opening the Big South season on the road for the 11th time in 12 seasons ... GWU is 6-5 all-time in Big South openers, and is looking to open League play 1-0 for the first time since 2010 ... The Runnin’ Bulldogs have posted back-to-back games with 50 points and 500 yards of offense ... QB LUCAS BEATTY is tied for second in Big South history with five career 300-yard passing games ... RB JUANNE BLOUNT is third in the League with 621 rush yards ... DE SHAQUILLE RIDDICK’s 9.0 TFL leads the Big South.
CHANTICLEER CROWS: Coastal Carolina is 7-3 all-time in Big South openers and is looking to start 1-0 in the League for the first time since 2011 ... The Chants have tallied at least 50 points, 300 rushing yards and 500 yards of offense in their last three games ... Coastal carries a five-game Conference win streak into Saturday’s action and has won its last 10 regular-season games ... RB LORENZO TALIAFERRO leads the Big South with 691 rushing yards ... The Chanticleers are allowing just 3.4 points in the third quarter (10.6 overall in second half).
LIBERTY FLAMES (3-3, 0-0 Big South) idle
• Liberty is idle this week and returns to action Oct. 19 in its Big South opener at home against Coastal.
• The Flames have won seven consecutive home games, outscoring their opponents by 23.9 points in that span.
• Liberty will put is Big South-record 18 consecutive home Big South win streak on the line next Saturday.
• QB JOSH WOODRUM is second in the Big South with a 140.6 passing efficiency rating.
• The Flames are first in the Big South and seventh nationally in scoring defense (16.7 points allowed).
PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE BLUE HOSE (1-4, 0-0 Big South) idle
• Presbyterian College is idle this week and returns to action Oct. 19 in its Big South opener against VMI.
• The Blue Hose are 0-4 in Big South openers since joining the Conference.
• TE JOEY GILKEY is tied for second in Big South history for most touchdown receptions by a tight end (5).
• QB KALEB GRIFFIN needs 12 completions for 200 in his career and 291 passing yards for 2,000.
• The Blue Hose lead the Big South in passing defense with 150.6 yards allowed through the air.
