Five questions each day (consider this post Monday's entry). DO NOT post your answers...that's called cheating, the gateway crime for felonious activity.
We'll start off with softball questions and increase the level of difficulty as we go. Let's go with the honor system for grading purposes xscanx.

1. City where North Dakota State University is located.

2. Furman Paladins, located in Greenville SC, plays in which conference?

3. McNeese State, located in Lake Charles LA, is known as the ___________ (i.e. Furman PALADINS).

4. Eight FCS schools are known as the Bulldogs (more than any other mascot). Name one...no credit for Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs.

5. Four states/commonwealths are each home to eight FCS schools. Name one of the states/commonwealths with such a distinction.

Five questions you should have easily answered. I'll post the answers each evening. If you missed three or more, you're disqualified so I ask that you post "passed" or "disqualified" so we can track the dummies for research purposes only. The idea is to grow our knowledge of the FCS and, of course, afford yet another venue for thread derailment and smack. Just don't get all 3rd grader on me and throw a tantrum when you're disqualified.

I'll ask a site admin to give the champion some "badge" to honor his or her big brain and I'll provide a legitimate prize for the champion.

I can't hand out the quiz and wait for each mouth-breather to turn it in. If they cheat, they cheat. Believe me, if I'm getting 5/5 in a week or two, the cheatar will sound. Anyway, it's supposed to be a fun way of getting to know other schools. If someone has better way to grade these, I'm all ears.

Gotcha. Ursus graciously offered some assistance...I intended to keep this simple and didn't want to create more work for other people but nothing wrong with improving the process.

I'll post Monday's answers and Tuesday's questions tonight and do the same from here on out. Next set of questions will be slightly more difficult and involve Texas, Cali, and Washington. Again, you'll need to correctly answer 3 or more to pass.

Day 2 Questions

1. More than 10 FCS schools are located in state/commonwealth capitals. Name three of these schools.

2. On 01 September 2007, Appalachian State University scored one of the biggest college football upsets of all time. But, they went on to lose two FCS games on their way to winning the FCS National Championship over Delaware. Name one of the teams that beat them that season.

3. We all know Eastern Washington University's field turf is red (not letting you off that easy). On 18 September 2010, EWU set a school record for attendance as they introduced the red turf to fans. Who did EWU play that day?

4. Cal Poly upset which FBS program on 16 September 2012? Hint: Former Dallas Cowboys TE, Jay Novacek, played football at this school.

5. All FCS programs located in Texas play in one of two conferences. Name one.

Reply with "pass" if you got 3 or more correct. "Disqualified" if you missed at least 3. I may go to a Google doc for Day 3 questions (thanks to AGS for the help with that).

Day 3 Questions

1. Compound question - nail one answer for full credit but you must get the correct school in the correct year:
+ In 1979, this current Patriot League school lost to Eastern Kentucky in the national championship game 30-7.
++ In 2003, this current Patriot League school lost to Delaware in the national championship game 40-0.

2. The 1995 national championship game set a new 1-AA/FCS national championship record for attendance (over 32,000); a record that still stands today. Name one team that played in this game. Hint: One of the participants hosted the 1-AA championships from 1992-1996 so they played this game at home. It didn't help enough as they lost 22-20. Big hint: A horrific plane crash in 1970 devastated one of the football programs.

3. Better known for their two appearances in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, this Pioneer Conference program also sent a RB (Arnold Mickens) to the NFL in 1996, something they hadn't done since circa World War II. Name the school.

4. Three CURRENT FCS schools have won the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship (don't say UConn because I just bolded "current"). Name one. Big Hint: One of the FCS schools also won the FCS championship.

Day 4 Questions. Answer key on a separate thread.

1. Who won the Walter Payton Award in 2002? Hint: His college team is currently ranked in the top 25 of the AGS Poll. DO NOT click on the AGS, TSN, or coaches poll...that's cheating.

2. This team's participation in the 1989 1-AA/FCS championship game was vacated by action of the NCAA Committee on Infractions. Nonetheless, Georgia Southern beat them 37-34 in front of nearly 26,000 fans. Terrible hint: A quick search shows someone started a thread on this topic in 2012 but got only one response.

3. Name two of the four founding members of the MEAC who have continuously played in that conference since its inception in 1970. Be careful, a couple of other teams were there at the start, left, and came back (that's not continuous, BTW).

4. This team, currently ranked in the top 25 of the AGS Poll, has only played football for 10 years...not moved to the FCS from DII, I mean only started playing football a decade ago. They've also sent a few players to the NFL to include a 2nd Round draft pick. Pretty impressive. Again, do not check polls or ballots because you have a brain cramp.

5. Seven teams play football in the Northeast Conference (NEC). Name three of them.

Same thing - reply with "pass" or "disqualified" and keep your answers to yourself. Fairly easy questions (unless you're NoDak 4 Ever, apparently xbadx).

No, I hate the dallas cowboys with a passion. I was born and raised 20 minutes from RFK Stadium. Nonetheless, I'm glad your cowboys fandom helped you through a couple questions.

I tried to mix it up geographically. Next time, maybe we can have a West vs East playoff and the winner of each division will get 5 questions from the other territory to determine a champion.

Day 5 Questions (Answer Key on a separate thread)

1. Appalachian State University will join the Sunbelt Conference in July 2014 so this question does not pertain to them. The question: Several programs have transitioned from the FCS to the 1-A/FBS. Which (now) FBS program was the last to win the FCS National Championship?

2. Nottingham Field is home to which Big Sky team? Hint: Vincent Jackson.

3. How many teams from the Ohio Valley Conference are located in Ohio?

4. It's tough to avoid an east coast bias when Rhode Island has three FCS teams and Washington state and Oregon have two, collectively. But, that has absolutely nothing to do with this question. Question: FCS programs may grant a maximum of 63 full scholarships but these may be divided (i.e. partial scholarships). No more than [how many] players may be on scholarship?

5. This team is ineligible for the Patriot League championship because they use scholarship players while the rest of the League's members do not.

DE, Caleb Schreibeis, beat out Appalachian State LB, Jeremy Kimbrough, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff DE, Brandon Thurmond, to win the 2012 Buck Buchanan Award as the most outstanding defensive player in the FCS. Interestingly--and, IMO, laudable--he took the decision to forgo the NFL and currently works as a mechanical engineer. Schreibeis played for which school?

3. This head coach is the only individual to win the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award on two occasions.

4. NFLers QB Jim Hart, RB Brandon Jacobs, and LB Bart Scott played football for this program.

A couple difficult questions tonight masked by a few cupcakes. If I don't start seeing some of you taking a dirt nap, I'm going to be forced to break out the questions to end all questions.

Day 9 Questions

1. Only one Southland Conference [former] member has ever won the 1-AA/FCS national championship. Compound question - What was their school name then and what is their school name now?

2. The Pioneer Football League is a strange gaggle of atypical interests. Teams from California, Indiana, Florida, Iowa, and New York (so much for keeping travel costs down). Two questions - answer one correctly for credit.

A) In 2006, these PFL teams began playing for the Hoosier Helmet Trophy.
B) Only one PFL school is designated as a public institution. Name that school.

3. The Ivy League has competed in 1-AA/FCS since the beginning of the 1982 football season. Despite common belief, Ivy League teams are eligible for the FCS playoffs to include an automatic bid and qualification for an at-large selection. To this point, all eligible teams have declined the invitation. What reason have Ivy League teams cited for their decision to abstain? Your answer doesn't have to be exact, just the gist of it...subjective, I know.

4. This Ohio Valley Conference school is the smallest in terms of students (~8,000) and is located in a town with a total population of only ~11,500. This small school played better than the big boys when they beat Chattanooga in week one and Central Arkansas in week 3.

5. The Big Sky has four charter members remaining in the conference (Montana, Montana State, Weber State, and Idaho State). It currently consists of two affiliate members (football only)...both call the Big West their "primary conference." Who are the two affiliate members? Solid hint because I'm feeling inhumanly generous tonight: These two rivals play in the "Battle for the Golden Horseshoe Game."

Day 10 Questions

Questions to cover the weekend. Will pick back up Monday night.

1. The FCS playoffs were played in Chattanooga for about a decade. The NCAA opened the hosting rights for the 2010–2012 championship games for bids during the 2009 season. As we've already established, Pizza Hut Stadium (now Toyota Stadium) in Frisco, Texas won the bid on 26 February 2010. In addition to Frisco and Chattanooga, which three cities bid to host the FCS playoffs?

2. Since we're on topic and you're suddenly feeling humble, I'll give you a bunny question so as to spark your confidence. Question - For the 2010 season playoffs, with the expansion from 16 to 20 teams, two conferences earned an automatic bid for the first time. Name both conferences.

3. Rule changes beginning in which season included the implementation of the 40-second play clock vice the 25-second play clock and the penalty for kicking the ball out of bounds on the kickoff was increased, placing the ball at the 40-yard line?

4. With a seating capacity of 69,143, this mammoth is the largest home stadium in the FCS. Name either the stadium or the team that calls it home. Hint: It's a "miracle" this stadium was built after a weather system delayed construction.

5. Through 12 October of this season, only one FCS team ranks in the top 20 in both yards allowed per game (#18 total defense) and yards gained per game (#17 total offense). Name this well-balanced team.

Day 11 Questions

1. This team plays its home games in the 16,000 seat J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome. A NFL team used this facility for their training camp until last year. The NFL team's President said this when he explained the move to a new location: He placed the blame firmly in the hands of those who run things at ________________, apologizing to the business community. He called the facilities that ________________ moved the team to "substandard for a professional football team," especially when paying "big rent." [NFL President] said that the university "really made this decision easy for us." "I was not going to let the team be at a competitive disadvantage by continuing to use those facilities," he said. Question - Name the FCS school

2. This team won six national championships but only one was a 1-AA/FCS title. Interesting note - they are the only FCS program to average more than 20,000 fans per regular-season home game for each season from 1999 to 2010. Name the team.

3. The University of Incarnate Word Cardinals are transitioning from DII to FCS. Name the town/city and commonwealth/state where they are located. Hint: If you've ever gone through USAF's BMT, you were in this town/city.

4. East Tennessee State University is one of several Division 1 teams who closed the door on their football program in the past decade. The good news is ETSU announced plans to reinstate football at the FCS level in or about 2015. Name two programs who discontinued football since 2006.

5/5 - struggled for quite a while on last question but finally came up with a list of 8 (of which 7 were correct)

(and the answer key for #4 lists two programs that ended in 2003 despite the question asking for ended since 2006).

Bum Phillips? Are you kidding me? Holy crap if you really don't know of him fan4 you gotta go do some youtubing on this guy. What a great character in the NFL history...which is why I'm surprised you don't know of him.

Ok! I'll admit it, arctos, I don't know everything. However, I will do some youtubing and googling and such to learn more about this legend. Finding about him with the Oilers sounds familiar, though. He's the black guy in the photo, correct? ;) hehe

Day 13 Questions for Saturday through Sunday

1. This Big South school hired the first black head football coach in the Conference's history.

2. This Northeastern Conference school got it's nickname way back in 1927 because their football team boasted one of the fastest football ground attacks in the east.

3. Dating back to 1976, this FCS program has an unusual tradition: A horse runs a lap around the track that encircles the football field after every touchdown.

4. This school is the only non-military institution in the nation with permission from the Department of Navy to use the United States Marine Corps Official seal and mascot. Notable NFL players who called this school home are Don Beebe, Brian Cox, and Rodney Harrison.

5. Football's "Run & Shoot" offense was first implemented by this school's former head coach. It helped that his stud QB was none other than June Jones (Hawaii and now SMU's head coach with their potent air attack) and later the college football great QB, Neil Lomax.
