The Big South improved to an all-time best 6-1 against SoCon schools this season with two wins on Saturday, pushing the League's non-Conference FCS win total to a record 14 victories.

Charleston Southern entered its game on Saturday with FBS-bound Appalachian State looking to measure where it was as a program, still unbeaten and under first-year head coach Jamey Chadwell. The Bucs left Kidd Brewer with one of the biggest wins in school history. CSU running back Christian Reyes had a school-record 34 carries and Danny Croghan III found Kevin Glears for a 15-yard touchdown with 5:27 left in the game as the Buccaneers beat Applachian State to keep their start to the 2013 season perfect at 5-0.

Coastal Carolina's Lorenzo Taliaferro rushed for a career-high 205 yards, Alex Ross had 382 yards of total offense while accounting for four scores and the #11/12 Chanticleers (5-0) rolled up a school record 652 yards of total offense in a 53-28 win over Elon (1-4) Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Stadium.
Elon actually led 28-25 with 3:59 left in the second quarter before Coastal scored 28 unanswered, including a TD with 28 seconds left in the first half, to put 50 points on the board for the third consecutive contest. While Elon had 333 yards of total offense for the game, the Chanticleer defense pitched a shutout in the second half, allowing just 78 yards of offense in the final 30 minutes - 48 in the third quarter and 30 in the fourth. In addition to setting a CCU single-game record, Coastal has rushed for 300-plus yards in three straight games (339 at Eastern Kentucky, 382 versus Hampton and 355 at Elon) and now has produced five of the school's top 11 single-game efforts for total offense over the last 10 games. No. 25 Gardner-Webb jumped out to a 31-7 halftime lead and didn’t look back in a 55-7 win over Point (Ga.) University Saturday night in Spangler Stadium.
Lucas Beatty completed 21-of-25 passes for 223 yards and two scores, strikes of 10 yards to Demarcus White and 27 yards to Kenny Cook. The Runnin’ Bulldogs (4-1) racked up 503 yards of total offense and 26 first downs in its first game scoring more than 40 points since October 24, 2009 vs. Southern Virginia.

The Liberty Flames showcased their big play ability throughout the first half, en route to an eventual 73-7 victory over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan, Saturday night at Williams Stadium. The victory moved the Flames to 3-2 on the season, including a win in each of their first three home games of the year since 2010. The loss keeps Kentucky Wesleyan winless on the 2013 season (0-4) and 0-3 in the overall series with Liberty.
The Flames were the first to post big plays, scoring twice during the game's opening three minutes to take a quick 14-0 lead. Liberty's initial big play came the first time the Flames' offense touched the football with quarterback Josh Woodrum finding Darrin Peterson open on the far side of the field for a 55-yard touchdown pass 19 seconds into the game. The VMI Keydets tied the game with a Hail Mary heave in the final seconds of regulation, but the Robert Morris Colonials saw Deontae Howard notch a 17-yard touchdown run in the second overtime, giving them a 37-31 win in football action Saturday at VMI’s Foster Stadium. The contest was the first overtime game the Keydets had been involved in since Oct. 22, 2005.
After Robert Morris (2-2) had rallied to take a 31-24 lead in the final period, Eric Kordenbrock got the Keydets (1-4) into Colonial territory with the clock running down. With the final seconds ticking away, he rolled to his right and launched a deep pass into the endzone. Freshman Matthew Nicholson was waiting just behind the main throng going up for the pass, and he grabbed it for his second touchdown of the day with just one second showing on the clock. After an early back-and-forth slugfest between the Presbyterian College Blue Hose football team and Charlotte, the visiting 49ers pulled away for a 45-21 win at PC’s Bailey Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Charlotte used 35 straight points in the second and third quarters en route to the victory. PC wide receiver Tobi Antigha racked up 100 yards in the effort on six receptions, both career-highs for the junior and team-bests for the season.
PC moves to 1-3 on the year and will next travel to Wofford for a Saturday afternoon matchup on October 5. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. Charlote improves to 3-2 and will next host Gardner-Webb on Saturday, October 5 at noon.
